FA probes alleged discriminatory remark to referee

Image source: shutterstock1 hour agoThe Football Association will investigate an alleged incident involving discrimination against the referee in the National League match between Solihull Moors vs Boston United. We are taking this matter seriously and will review all the details in the match official’s reports before taking any action. “A spokesperson from the refereeing organisation PGMOL said: “We offer our full support to referee after an alleged racist comment directed at him during the National League game between Solihull and Boston United. The referee will submit a match report, and we will work closely together with the FA to resolve this important and worrying matter. The match was stopped for about 20 minutes with the score at zero before the teams returned to finish it. Boston scored three goals in the final 23-minutes to win 3-0. Chris Millington, the manager of Solihull Moors, implied that one of his players was accused of making that comment. Boston boss Paul Hurst also suggested that the incident could have been a misheard remark. Hurst told Non-League Paper that the assistant had heard [a player] saying a word, and he thought he had used the wrong word. “I don’t believe that was spoken and that’s been said by many people.” “Related topicsBoston UnitedSolihull MoorsFootballNational League

Champions League almost sewn up but race for Europe tighter than ever

Image source: Getty ImagesByJoe RindlBBC Sport Journalist15 minutes ago7 commentsThe race for Champions League qualifying appears to be settled following two dramatic second-half injuries-time goals on Sunday. Liverpool scored in the hundredth minute and Aston Villa scored in the 93rd. Six points separate the sixth from the 14th place. Only once in Premier League history was the gap between the sixth and the 14th tighter than it is today (19 April). That was in 1992-93, when the top three teams qualified for the European competition. The Premier League’s top 5 teams all qualify for the Champions League this season. Arsenal and Manchester City have already secured a top five finish. Man Utd, Villa and Liverpool are all set for the Champions League? Both teams need only six more points to qualify. In fifth place, Liverpool beat Everton late in the game 2-1. The winner of the FA Cup will also qualify for the Europa League. If a team is already in the Champions League, or Europa League, by league position then everything moves down a spot. So sixth and seventh can be good enough for Europa League, and eighth could be for the Europa Conference League. The English clubs that win any of the three European competitions in this season can also earn extra spots. Potentially, ninth could earn a place in the Europa Conference League. They are tied with Brentford and Bournemouth on 48 points. Brighton and Everton are in ninth and tenth place, respectively, with 47 points. Sunderland is 11th, Fulham is 12th, and Newcastle in 13th place with 42 points. There’s a strong argument that, at this point in the season, every team has something to play about.
