IPL: Vaibhav Sooryavanshi leads Royals to victory over LSG
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi scored a brilliant 93 in 38 balls for the Rajasthan Royals, who beat Lucknow Super Giants. This boosts their chances to reach the Indian Premier League playoffs. The 15-year old hit 10 sixes during his stunning innings, which helped him regain the lead in the run-scoring chart for the tournament. Sooryavanshis 93 runs were dominated by boundaries, with 88 of them coming from the Super Giants who had already been eliminated. He peared to be on his way to scoring his second century, but mistimed a shot by Mohsin and fell to Abdul Samad deep in the field. Ajit Agarkar spoke about Sooryavanshi earlier that day. He was not included in the India one-day squad for the match against Afghanistan. The teenager has been a growing target for white-ball teams in India, but instead he was named to an India A team to tour Sri Lanka following the IPL. Agarkar stated that he chose him because of his youth and potential. The goal is to get these young athletes some exposure. Yashasvi is also part of the ODI squad. There are other players who have been as impressive as Sooryavanshi.
“We are excited about him, and we hope he can show his talent when he goes with the A-team.”
Once Sooryavanshi was injured, the Royals were unable to keep up their pace. However Dhruv Jurel (53* out of 38) secured a win that moved them into the fourth position in the table. A win over Mumbai Indians, in their last match, will ensure a place in the knockouts. Mitchell Marsh, who was in good form earlier, scored 96 runs off 57 deliveries to keep up his excellent form for Super Giants. He put on 109 runs for the first wicket along with Josh Inglis, another Australian (60 off 29). Jofra Archer, England’s bowler, had a total of 1-39. He also dismissed Rishabh Pan.
