Pre-wedding weight loss now includes GLP-1s and bigger beauty pressure

Since generations, wedding preparations have included an unofficial beauty routine: crash diets and intense workouts, teeth whitening and spray tans, as well as a last-minute facelift. In bridal forums, group chats and doctor’s offices, an increasing number of couples are turning to GLP-1 medications, originally developed to treat diabetics and now widely prescribed to lose weight, as part of their prewedding weight loss. The medications, including drugs such as tirzepatide and semaglutide, are now shorthand for rapid visible body changes. The wedding itself can be the catalyst for some couples. This shift is now measurable. According to Zola’s new data, one in ten couples planning weddings for 2026 are currently taking a GLP-1. More than half (54%) of these couples say that their wedding influenced this decision. Another 10% are considering taking GLP-1 before getting married. “I’m getting engaged in May and I’m taking a GLP-1 for weight loss,” says Nicole Frates. “Wedding-specific experiences definitely increased my body awareness.” I put off buying my wedding gown because I tried to lose weight by myself for a few month first. When progress stalled out, Frates decided that medication was the way to go. She says, “I wanted results and to feel more confident and comfortable going into this season.” Her experience reflects an broader shift in the way wedding culture intersects beauty standards. Pre-wedding glow ups have evolved from boot-camp workouts and restrictive diets to prescription interventions, including injectables and medical weight-loss medications. GLP-1s is just one part of this larger trend. One in four Gen Z couples have reported getting Botox, or similar treatments, leading up to their wedding. This suggests that the pressure to appear a certain way goes beyond weight loss. “10% couples use GLP-1s and for more than half of this group, the wedding is their primary motivation. It’s a real Catch-22. While our couples want the ‘wedding dieting culture’ to be dismantled, the pressure to look like a certain way is still their biggest stressor. As these treatments become more common, they fundamentally change the wedding day vision. They’re changing how couples approach physical preparation and curate their looks for FYP.” Part of the pressure comes from the symbolic weight that is placed on wedding imagery. Jessica DeFino is the author of Flesh World and beauty critic Jessica DeFino says that weddings are viewed as a symbol of life. “These are photos you’ll probably have forever and display for ever.”

Man kills seven of his children, and an eighth child, in Louisiana mass shooting

The BBC’s US news partner CBS reports that the children ranged in age from one to fourteen years. The shooting started around 05:00 (10:00 GMT), according to officers. Chris Bordelon, spokesperson for the Shreveport Police Department, said that the suspect shot ten people before fleeing on a stolen vehicle. The suspect was killed by police after they chased him. Two adult women, including mother of the children are in critical conditions. Police said that the suspect shot a woman in the street, then went to a nearby house where he killed eight children. “One of them was not his relative”, according to the police. One of the victims ran into a nearby house and called the authorities. They claimed that the gunman was acting alone. Bordelon reported that a ninth child had jumped off the roof of the house and was hospitalized. Troy Brown, Elkins’s brother in law, told the Washington Post he lived with Elkins, who was upset when his wife asked for a divorce. “After the first argument over the divorce, he acted as if he was losing it,” he told a newspaper. Crystal Brown, a relative of one of those injured women, told AP that the couple were due to appear in court Monday. “We have hurting people, hurting police officers and hurting coroners.” This affects the whole community, and we all mourn these families. According to the Gun Violence Archive, a nonprofit organization that tracks US gun violence, the incident is the deadliest US mass shooting since January 2024 when eight victims died in Joliet. GVA defines mass shootings as incidents where four or more victims are shot, excluding the suspect. Bordelon told a Sunday morning news conference that officers had found the children in a home just before 6:00 am local time. Bordelon stated that all the victims in this case were juveniles. He said that officers determined the call to be “domestic”. Police said that after the shooting, the suspected gunman attempted to escape by carjacking a vehicle. Police said they pursued the suspect gunman into a different neighbourhood, Bossier Parish. They then fired at him, who is now dead. Shreveport Police chief Wayne Smith expressed his sympathy to the entire community. Smith said, “I cannot imagine how this could have happened.” He added that the investigation is being conducted with the Louisiana State Police as well as assistance from other agencies. “We will work diligently for however long it takes in order to get some answers as to what happened,” he said. Shreveport Councilman Grayson Boucher stated that more than 30% crimes and 30% murders in the City were “domestic related”, adding that “now this number has increased.” “We’ve more doubled our homicides in the city Shreveport due to one act of domestic abuse,” he said.Louisiana governor Jeff Landry said that he and his spouse were “heartbroken” over this horrific situation and prayed for everyone affected. Landry said, “We are deeply grateful to law enforcement officers and first-responders who worked tirelessly at the scene.” House Speaker Mike Johnson of Louisiana’s Fourth District has also commented on this “heartbreaking” tragedy. “We are holding the victims and their loved ones close in our prayers, as well as our Shreveport Community,” he said. He also expressed gratitude for the prompt response of local police. ReutersUS gun violenceUnited States

This is what happens to the body when you lift weights but skip cardio

Have you ever wondered why someone who lifts weights regularly avoids cardio exercises like running or climbing the stairs? Dr Sarang Deshpande is a consultant in orthopaedics at KIMS Hospitals in Thane. He said that this scenario could indicate if the body is strong for certain movements but weaker in everyday activities. “Lifting increases muscle fibres, but does not help the heart or lungs. Simple tasks such as climbing stairs, running for a cab or carrying shopping bags a long distance can cause fatigue. The heart isn’t trained to pump efficiently, so even mild effort can push it into overdrive faster than expected,” said Dr Deshpande.DISCLAIMER: This article is based on information from the public domain and/or the experts we spoke to. Consult your doctor before beginning any new routine. Strength training increases power, but not oxygen capacity. “Without cardio the blood flow to muscles is limited, which slows down recovery and increases soreness. Can skipping cardio also affect joints? Yes, but indirectly. Dr Deshpande. Poor endurance can alter posture and movement patterns. When the body becomes fatigued quickly, the form deteriorates more rapidly, which puts stress on the knees and hips. Running is a great way to stay active. It improves circulation, flexibility and mobility. (Photo: Pixabay). Does avoiding cardio slow down fat loss? It often does, according to Dr Deshpande. “Cardio speeds metabolism and helps your body use energy more effectively. It is essential for fat loss to be accelerated, otherwise you will end up with a bulky look without definition. ‘This time, not 85 but 86’: Helen demonstrates simple exercises to improve mobilityWhat to note?Dr Deshpande shared that a mix of strength training and basic cardio, such as brisk walking, cycling, or light jogging, improves body function. It improves heart health and supports recovery. It also lowers the risk for injury and helps maintain stamina to match physical appearance, said Dr Deshpande. Consult your doctor before beginning any new routine.

Michelle Pfeiffer Reveals Why She Broke Marriage Pact

Michelle Pfeiffer reveals why she finally broke a long-standing rule in her marriage.

To protect their relationship, the actress has avoided professional collaborations for more than 30 years. She has revealed that she made an exception for her husband’s latest project, “Margot’s Got Money Trouble,” because she felt a connection to the character.

Michelle Pfeiffer fell madly in love with a character in her husband’s new series

Pfeiffer avoided her husband for years, despite the fact that he was one of Hollywood’s most prolific producer. Kelley’s “Margot’s Got Money Trouble” series changed that position recently.

Pfeiffer explained the decision in a recent appearance on “Today” and it has attracted a lot of interest.

The Emmy nominee revealed that she was first intrigued by the cover of the book which inspired the series when it was placed on her kitchen counter. Kelley told her that there was a part in the story people thought would be perfect for her.

Pfeiffer, after reading the book, said she “fell in love” with her character and “couldn’t imagine anyone else as her.”

David E. Kelley claimed that casting for the show was easy

Apple TV has released the first three episodes of David E. Kelley’s MARGO’S GOT MONEY TROUBLES starring Elle Fanning and Michelle Pfeiffer. The film also stars Nick Offerman, ThaddeaGraham, Marcia Gay Harden Michael Angarano Greg Kinnear and Nicole Kidman. pic.twitter.com/HdAUmYdcue– Film Festival (@LifeIsAFilmFest) April 15, 2026

Kelley said the casting process was relatively easy, in part because the actors were so enthusiastic about the material. Nick Offerman who plays Pfeiffer’s character’s ex-husband and Elle Fanning who stars in the series as Margot millet were among those who signed on quickly.

Kelley said that he was also lucky that his wife agreed. He joked that her decision ranked right behind another major yes that occurred decades ago.

“When I first read the book, there was only one person who I could see playing it. We’re lucky that she said yes. It’s the second luckiest no I’ve ever gotten from her,” said he.

Michelle Pfeiffer and her husband had a pact to keep work and personal life separate.

Pfeiffer made a promise to her husband early in their marriage that they would keep their professional and private lives separate.

She first spoke about the agreement in an interview with The New Yorker from 2021, explaining that even strong relationships can have problems once they start working together. Pfeiffer reiterated this view in a 2022 interview on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.”

She told Fox News that “I value our friendship more than any good part of it, and I think it’s just too risky.”

She continued to explain why this arrangement was so important to her. “We are both fierce when we’re at work, so if I have a bad day and I am upset about something, then I want him on my side, because he hasn’t heard the other perspective.” There’s value to that.”

Pfeiffer, who promoted the show at SXSW Film and TV Festival last month (and spoke about the experience of finally working with Kelley after so many years), talked about how it felt to finally work together.

She told PEOPLE Magazine that she learned that the director prefers that you ask all your questions directly to him. I was fine with this. “It was one of the most amazing productions I have ever worked on.” It was truly so beautiful.”

The three-time Oscar winner also made it clear that she was not unhappy with her husband’s efforts, praising the writing as well as the team behind the project.

Kelley enjoyed working with his wife

Kelley, meanwhile, reflected on his first collaboration with his wife and said that the experience made him appreciate her talent even more.

He had always admired Pfeiffer’s work but he explained that seeing her perform material he wrote for the first time, allowed him to see what she brought the words on the pages, rather than just watching her disappear into character as a spectator.

Kelley was “pretty” impressed by his wife’s performance. Pfeiffer said that his praise meant a lot to her, and she felt a strong desire to not let him down.

The Blast first published The Michelle Pfeiffer Reveals why she broke marriage pact.
