Hilaria Baldwin revealed she started dieting when she was only 5 years old − a scenario that may seem shocking, but that experts say is all too common.
In an interview with SiriusXM’s Page Six Radio on July 28, the mom of seven, 42, discussed her journey with decades of disordered eating, including dieting at a young age.
“I did all of it. I did anorexia, I did bulimia, I did overeating, I did undereating,” Baldwin said, noting at one extreme she was even “afraid of how many calories might be in toothpaste.”
Eating disorders can start earlier than many expect, according to the ACUTE Center for Eating Disorders and Severe Malnutrition.
“Every year, about 14 million people worldwide experience an eating disorder, 3 million of whom are children and adolescents,” the center notes on its website.
Research has also shown that 20% of children show signs of disordered eating, the center adds.
“While not every child who exhibits disordered eating will develop an eating disorder, disordered eating can predict the development of an eating disorder and outcomes in early adulthood,” the site reads.
Baldwin said she was determined to heal herself before having kids.
Despite recent strides against toxic diet culture − like the 2010 wave of size inclusivity and rise of the body positivity and body neutrality movements − there’s concern about a “larger cultural swing towards the thin ideal yet again,” Sam DeCaro, director of clinical outreach and education at The Renfrew Center, which specializes in eating disorder treatment, previously told USA TODAY.
Multiple risk factors can increase a child’s risk for developing an eating disorder, according to the ACUTE Center for Eating Disorders and Severe Malnutrition, including social pressures.
Baldwin said that “no matter how much I try to bubble wrap (my kids),” diet culture messaging is “going to get through.”
Her approach? Having conversations with them focused on food − not looks.
“What I try to do with my kids is empower them. Talk about strength. Talk about how does the food make you feel?” she explained.
Experts agree it’s best to avoid comments about someone’s appearance, whether it’s negative or positive. That’s because it reinforces the belief that someone’s appearance is the most important thing about them, Dr. Elizabeth Wassenaar, regional medical director at the Eating Recovery Center, previously told USA TODAY.
“These comments about how your body is acceptable or unacceptable, it reinforces again that you are not worth more than your body … and that you have to present yourself a certain way for the world to find you acceptable,” she said. “It just reinforces that sort of superficial, body-focused idea that we know is so painful and harmful for every single one of us, because we are so much more than this vessel that carries us.”

London — Four women speaking to CBS News’ partner network the BBC have accused actor and band frontman Jared Leto of criminal sexual conduct when they were teenagers.
One woman said the Oscar-winning actor and “Thirty Seconds to Mars” band frontman sexually assaulted her in a motel when she was 17, while another told the BBC said she had sex with Leto in California when she was the same age — which would qualify as statutory rape.
A third woman told the BBC that Leto threatened her with sexual assault when she was 19 while she was alone with him in a hotel room. Another alleges the star groomed her as a teenager, on one occasion suggesting they should have sex.
Others say they received sexual phone calls or lewd comments from Leto.
In total, 10 women spoke to the BBC for the documentary, Jared Leto: Hollywood’s Dark Secret, including nine who said they were sharing their stories for the first time.
The women all say they encountered Leto when he was in his 30s and 40s, between 2002 and 2016. He is now 54.
“This was 25 years ago … he has gotten away with it,” one of his accusers said.
CBS News has not independently corroborated the accusations.
Leto’s representatives shared a statement from him saying: “I have never sexually assaulted anyone in my entire life. These claims are absolutely and categorically false.”
Leto has been plagued by allegations of sexual misconduct for years, but has denied all wrongdoing. No criminal charges have ever been filed against him.
Two men who worked with Thirty Seconds to Mars, Leto’s band, told the BBC that staff were uncomfortable about his interactions with teenage girls, saying he occasionally invited them to his dressing room or to the house where the band was recording.
The BBC said it corroborated several of the women’s accounts with family and friends who were aware of the interactions with Leto at the time. The network also said it viewed pictures and messages supporting the women’s claims.
“I think everyone thought the age gap was way too big,” one former band employee told the BBC.
New allegations
The four women accusing Leto of criminal behavior, whom the BBC identified only as Isabel, Alex, Clara and Etta, go into detail in the documentary about what they say took place.
Isabel, now in her 40s, said she was 17 when she agreed to meet Leto at a hotel, where he started kissing her and used her hand to masturbate himself. She said she pulled away and told him she wanted to leave, adding that Leto then put on a towel and let her out of the “dingy gross motel” room after appearing to check who was around.
Clara told the BBC she had sex with Leto when she was 17 and he was 34, at his California home, while her friend waited in another room.
In California, if an adult has sex with someone below the age of 18 it can be classified as statutory rape.
“He told me, ‘I would like you to call me daddy’. And it was either pretend to be a little girl or ‘my little girl’,” she said in the documentary.
She said she was “naive and vulnerable” and unsure if the behavior was normal in an adult relationship.
“There is no well-adjusted man in his 30s who’s going to look at a teenager and think … she would be a great partner,” Clara told the BBC.
Etta told the BBC she was sent a non-disclosure agreement by Leto two years after he sent her explicit sexual emails, even though he knew she was 16. “He did at least once mention him and I having sex at some point,” she said.
She never signed the NDA, which was seen by the BBC.
Previous allegations
In June 2025, nine women accused Leto of sexual impropriety in a news story published by U.S. outlet Air Mail.
The story also detailed how, a month earlier, Los Angeles DJ Allie Teilz had reposted a 2012 Facebook status in which she wrote: “Youre [sic] not really in L.A. until Jared Leto tries to force himself on you backstage… In a kilt.. And a snow hat.”
Air Mail reported that Teilz wrote in an Instagram story: “I was assaulted and traumatized by this creep when I was 17 … He knew my age and didn’t care. What he did was predatory, terrifying and unacceptable.”
A representative for Leto “expressly denied” the accusations in the Air Mail piece, calling Teilz’s allegations “demonstrably false.”
The BBC said it counted more than 120 separate allegations made about Leto’s behavior toward women, many of them online, some of which were historical.
Leto won the 2014 Academy Award as best supporting actor for his role in “Dallas Buyers Club.”
Leto is set to tour Europe and the U.K. next year with Thirty Seconds to Mars.

Kavinsky, a French electronic musician and D.J. ​who was best known for his moody 2010 hit “Nightcall,” was found dead at his home in Paris on Tuesday. He was 50.
The Paris prosecutor’s office said on Wednesday that Kavinsky, whose real name was Vincent Belorgey, was unresponsive when the authorities went to his home on Tuesday evening. The cause of death was under investigation, the prosecutor’s office said, adding that emergency medical workers had “found no suspicious evidence at the scene.”
His biggest success, “Nightcall,” was a collaboration with Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo, a founder of the French electronic music duo Daft Punk. The song was used in the title sequence of the 2011 film “Drive,” starring Ryan Gosling, and it has been covered and sampled by groups and artists including London Grammar, Childish Gambino and Phoenix.

Tom Holland and Zendaya will not have a second wedding.
During an interview with Complex, the “Euphoria” actress’s longtime stylist, Law Roach, shut down rumors that the pair are planning to have a “more public” ceremony.
“I don’t think so,” Roach said at the Los Angeles premiere of Holland and Zendaya’s new movie, “Spider-Man: Brand New Day.”
“I think that people should congratulate them. It’s two young, beautiful, successful people that are in love, and they had a private wedding, and they got away with it,” he added.
“And I think people should just … congratulate them. And if these are two people that you look up to or that you love their work, just celebrate them being together and happy.”
When Roach, 48, said he “hadn’t heard that rumor” about the couple planning to have a second wedding, the reporter said it “was posted 11 hours ago” online.
“Definitely not true,” the “Project Runway” judge reiterated.

All new principal cast members will join the Broadway cast of Hadestown in September. The company will feature television and film star Jasmin Savoy Brown as ‘Eurydice,’ two-time Tony Award winner Norbert Leo Butz as ‘Hermes,’ Tony Award nominee Amber Iman as ‘Persephone,’ pop-rock musician and songwriter Kayko as ‘Orpheus,’ and Disney XD actor Geno Segers as ‘Hades.’ They will begin performances on Tuesday, September 1.
The new principal company members will join Kelly Belarmino, KC Dela Cruz, and Khori Michelle Petinaud as ‘Fates,’ and the chorus of ‘Workers’ played by Emily Afton, Malcolm Armwood, Jeffrey Cornelius, Sydney Parra, and Alex Puette, with swings Brandon Cameron, Tara Jackson, Max Kumangai, and Alex Lugo.
Hadestown is in its 8th year on Broadway at the Walter Kerr Theatre (219 W 48th Street) and in its 3rd year in the West End (returning to London, five years after its 2018 engagement at The National Theatre). The record-breaking North American tour completed its coast-to-coast 3-year run in 2024, and productions have played to acclaim across the globe in South Korea, Sydney, Melbourne, and Amsterdam.
Hadestown originated as Anaïs Mitchell’s indie theater project that toured Vermont which she then turned into an acclaimed album. With Rachel Chavkin, her artistic collaborator, Hadestown has been transformed into a genre-defying new musical that blends modern American folk music with New Orleans-inspired jazz to reimagine a sweeping ancient tale.

Cast Biographies
Jasmin Savoy Brown (Eurydice) is a multi-talented performer and skilled actress raised in Springfield, Oregon. Jasmin is best known for her work in “Yellowjackets,” which has received 10 Emmy nominations across its three seasons. She plays Young Taissa, whose emotional complexity and a gradual mental decline is at the heart of the series. Jasmin is set to reprise the role in Season 4 of “Yellowjackets” where Young Taissa continues into a leadership role alongside her ongoing psychological and supernatural storyline.
This fall, she will also be seen in two prestige indie films debuting in August/ September. First on August 7th she will be seen in Anne Schoenbrun’s fever-dream slasher Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma, one of the most talked-about titles to emerge from Cannes this year (currently at 100% on Rotten Tomatoes). After that, she will be seen in Shatara Michelle Ford’s Dreams in Nightmares, the sweeping, emotionally resonant road film that premiered to critical acclaim at Berlinale.
She most recently returned as Mindy Meeks-Martin, the first openly queer character in the Scream franchise. She joined alumni Neve Campbell and Courteney Cox in the latest installment which had the biggest opening weekend in franchise history at 63.6 million. She will next be seen on the big screen in Dreams in Nightmares which premiered at the Berlin 2025 Film Festival. In 2021, Jasmin starred in The Sound of Violence, which premiered at the 2021 SXSW film festival where she received high praise for her lead performance.
Previously, Jasmin has been well known for playing ‘Evie Murphy’ in the critically-acclaimed HBO drama series “The Leftovers” opposite Justin Theroux and Regina King. Widely accepted as one of the more revolutionary shows in recent memory, The Leftovers became the highest ranked show of the 2010’s. She also gained notoriety playing series regular character and historical figure ‘Emilia Bassano’ on the TNT drama series “Will,” and ‘Allison Adams’ in the Shondaland / ABC court drama series “For the People.”

Being a true multi-hyphenate, Jasmin is also an indie singer/songwriter who has self-released three singles with accompanying music videos; she is influenced by the sounds of Olivia Dean and Angie McMahon.
Jasmin was named one of 2024’s FORBES 30 UNDER 30, one of Elle’s Hollywood Rising Class in 2023, in THR’s Next Gen Rising Young Stars 2022, Variety’s 55 Queer Artists and Decision-Makers to Know, and part of The OUT 100. Norbert Leo Butz (Hermes) is a two-time Tony Award winner for Best Actor in a Musical, and is one of only nine actors ever to have won the award twice as lead actor. He first won for his work in Dirty Rotten Scoundrels and won again for his work in Catch Me if You Can. He was additionally nominated for the Tony for his work in Thou Shalt Not and My Fair Lady. The star of 11 Broadway shows, he is also a five-time Drama Desk nominee and two-time winner. Wolfe’s Shuffle Along beside theatre luminaries Audra McDonald, Brian Stokes Mitchell, Billy Porter, etc. Amber was also in the first National Tour of the megahit musical Hamilton, and has performed Off Broadway and regionally with New York Theatre Workshop, New World Stages, Two River Theater, The Kennedy Center, and much more, earning Helen Hayes and IRENE Award nominations, and winning the Ovation Award and the prestigious Emery Battis Award for Acting Excellence from Shakespeare Theatre Company in DC. In 2024, Amber received both a Tony nomination and a Drama Desk nomination for her portrayal of Rafaela in the Broadway production of Lempicka.
