Not another ‘Brat Summer’: Charli xcx steps into a new, grittier era with her guitar-heavy album, ‘Music, Fashion, Film,’ out today

Charli had no intention of releasing new material so quickly. Since Brat, the omnipresent, lime-green single that started a cultural revolution, was released two years ago, Charli xcx has headlined a tour in an arena, produced a remix, and appeared as a co-producer and star of a mockumentary. Charli has certainly earned her break but she doesn’t ignore inspiration when the moment strikes.
She told Rolling Stone that she was “really, really” ready to take a rest and stop making music. I felt creatively depleted and was not motivated to create anything new. “Then, suddenly inspiration struck.”
Charli released her new album, Music, Fashion, Film, today. This album features the singles, “Rock Music,” SS26,” Wink Wink,” and “Camera.” It was recorded in Paris Fashion Week last October, a move that her producer A.G. Cook made deliberately.
I knew she would be able to Method Act the whole “Charli is going to record an Album in Paris during Fashion Week” by simply being at the fashion week. Cook said, “I knew it would bring out her personality.”
Charli said, “Some my best music I’ve ever made has been in those chaotic, busy, inter-periods where we are focused.”
Charli may have said goodbye to Brat Summer’s hedonistic, unrestrained energy, but her music is still true to herself. Yahoo has compiled everything you need to know on Music, Fashion, and Film, as Charli enters her new musical era.
Three icons are on the cover of ‘Music, Fashion, Film.
Music, Fashion, Film is different from Charli’s Brats era in many ways, including its aesthetic. The iconic album cover shot by Scottish photographer and filmmaker Aidan Zamiri who wrote and directed The Moment for A24, is a tribute to the artist.
It’s a bit cheeky, in a sense. Charli, a Shaad Magazine contributor, said that the cover is also about glamour and ambition, but it is also “very, very personal, made by people.”
On the cover, a black-and white photograph shows Velvet Underground singer John Cale with fashion designer Marc Jacobs in a small kitchen. Cale, Jacobs, and Scorsese are a visual representation for the three main pillars of this album: fashion, music and film.
Charli described the experience of shooting her cover as “like an out-of body experience.”
She said, “I was so happy to be able to share this image because it was such an exciting day when we took the picture in New York in April.” It was a special day for her to shoot the image with Aidan and all of her team members, some of whom are childhood friends.
It was surreal to have three legends trusting her vision of the album cover shot by Zamiri. She described him as a “young filmmaker and photographer that they didn’t know too well.”
She said, “Clearly the three people on the cover had very different career paths but they are very influential people in my lifetime.” Charli worked with Cale to create the Wuthering Heights Soundtrack, Jacobs gave her the first fashion campaign and Scorsese, well, he’s Scorsese. It was a magical experience to have all of them in one room. I don’t think it will be something I ever get again.
Music, Fashion, Film: A new way to stand out from the crowd
The three things that are not brats: Music, fashion, and film. One album has a lime-green anti-design aesthetic. The other is more subtle and conceptual with its black and white cover, Times New Roman font and intimate iconography. Charli has also changed her sonic style with the upcoming album. She’s ushering a new era with Music, Fashion, Film.
She told Rolling Stone that “all of my albums are opposites.” They repel each other and that is the connecting tissue.
She added, “I was aware that when I made [Brat], I would never make the same record again.” It’s not rewarding to me creatively to create the same thing again.
The singles of Music, Fashion, Film are grittier, with a heavier guitar sound, and lyrics that seem more melodramatic. She is more aware of the attention she receives, her fame and how chaotic it can be to simply exist.
She said, “It is funny how success can make you feel caged. But I have experienced so many different levels of failure and success.” People who know me from before Brat will understand my process and the ups and downs of popular music. “I feel free to create whatever comes next.”
She doesn’t want to analyze her own lyrics
There are some artists who love to get into the details of their songs. Charli xcx, however, isn’t one of those artists.
This isn’t a case of me acting like a sexist. When asked by Rolling Stone about her song titles, she said: “I’m not that interested in discussing the meaning of my songs.” “I didn’t say that to make it a big thing. “It’s how I feel.”
Charli said, “People think of me as a bitch already, so I am at peace.” This is cool and there’s no drama. “I’m just trying to make the best decision for myself, as my anxiety had gotten to a point where it was physically impacting me. I couldn’t continue in life that way.”
What else would she rather avoid? Social media.
She said, “I’m not really looking as much any more.” It’s better for my mind. “I know that people won’t be able to believe me because, in my past at least, I was a highly online artist.”
This isn’t an album of rock music
It’s not that outrageous to think of Music, Fashion, Film as a rock record. She practically says so on the album’s lead single “Rock Music,” where she sings with her Auto-Tune signature over a distorted and blown-out guitar: “Now, we’re creating rock music.” Music, Fashion, Film, while it’s a departure from her dance-pop album, is still not a “rock” album.
She told Rolling Stone, “I know there has been much talk about me making a Rock album. I have never mentioned this.” To be honest, genre is not something I have ever thought of in binary terms. This is a very outdated notion. I have no idea what genre it is. “It’s me, A.G. Cook, and [fellow producer] Finn Keane doing what we do.”
Charli’s decision to include Cale in the album is not surprising. Charli has made it clear that she loves the Velvet Underground, whether by naming Nico her rescue pup or collaborating with Cale on the Wuthering Heights Soundtrack. Inspiration isn’t always tied to a reference.
When I create music, I think less of other genres as a point of reference. She admitted, “I actually turned myself off and we just escaped into our own universe.” I’ve talked about my love for Lou Reed, John Cale and Velvet Underground. Would I describe the sound of this record as anything like that? No.”

“The Odyssey” screenings at Regal King of Prussia impacted after 70mm IMAX projector goes down

Currently, one of only 41 cinemas around the globe screening Christopher Nolan’s “The Odyssey” 70mm IMAX is experiencing technical problems.
Regal King of Prussia in Philadelphia informed customers on Friday that its 70mm IMAX projection system was having problems and only digital IMAX screenings were available.
The theater posted on Facebook that it “understands your frustration and apologizes for any impact this has had on your experience.”
The IMAX team has been working non-stop since Thursday and continues to do so to solve the projection problems. “We are trying to return normal 70mm operations as quickly as we can, but at this time there is no timeline.”
The King of Prussia Theater is one of only 25 theaters in America to show “The Odyssey” 70mm IMAX. New York City, Rochester, New York, and Providence, Rhode Island are the next nearest theaters.
Nolan told CBS Mornings co-host Gayle king last week that the new format is sharper and more like the image our eyes perceive.
Fans from Virginia drove as far away as King of Prussia to watch the 70mm IMAX film.
David Dekok: “I drove 80 miles to Harrisburg from Harrisburg in order to reach the theatre.”
Kate Elfatah said that when she arrived at the theatre, the buzz quickly spread throughout the lobby.
Elfatah replied, “I could not believe what I heard.” You have people who are out of order.
Elfatah said that customers received refunds as well as the opportunity to view the film in digital format for free. Not everyone was satisfied with that, she said.
Elfatah: “I met people from South Carolina who said that they had driven 8-10 hours.”
Kate Elfatah said that when she arrived at the theatre, the buzz quickly spread throughout the lobby.
Our crews informed several people CBS News Philadelphia interviewed that the projector had broken. This lack of notice was frustrating for many.
They could have sent out an email to all their clients. Dekok stated that they had our entire email.
Elfatah stated that no one from the theatre came to talk with anyone.
Regal has said that IMAX technicians are working round the clock to fix the projector. However, there is still no timetable for the return of 70mm screenings.

Boosie Badazz Sued By Security Guard for Assault

Boosie is being sued for allegedly smashing a hookah glass over the head of a security guard. This lawsuit comes after Boosie was jailed following the incident.
Edward Iglehart, II has filed a lawsuit against the Louisiana rapper for an incident that allegedly occurred at Dome Nightclub on the 24th of May this year in Houston.
Iglehart claims he was hired as a security guard in the VIP section at an event in which Boosie, real name Torrence Hitch, Jr., performed. Near the end of closing night, the woman who was in VIP was allegedly up to him asking if she was allowed to re-enter the restricted part of the club to use the restroom.
Iglehart says that after he politely directed the woman towards a security guard, who could make a determination about the situation, the woman began to berate him and eventually struck him.
Iglehart claims he grabbed her and started to guide her when she fell. He claims he bent down to pick up the woman when he got hit with a heavy item.
Boosie, he claims, was over him holding a hookah that had broken. Iglehart, says Iglehart… was bleeding profusely and was taken to hospital.
He is suing Boosie, claiming assault and battery as well as defamation because he allegedly made false statements about him in social media. Iglehart also sued 1720 Main Street Entities, the company which owns the bar for overserving Boosie’s guests and creating an unsafe work environment.
Boosie’s arrest for the alleged attack took place in May. Houston PD was told by the club owners and promoters that Iglehart’s escorting woman is Boosie’s niece.
Carl A. Moore, Boosie’s lawyer, told us in a written statement that “we plan to investigate vigorously and defend Mr. Hatch from these allegations. We wish everyone to reserve judgement and let this case play out before a court.” Boosie’s attorney Carl A. Moore said in a statement to us, “We plan to vigorously investigate and defend Mr. Hatch against these allegations — we wish everyone would reserve any judgement and allow this case play out in court.”

The First ‘Matchbox’ Movie Trailer Sure Is Something

Matchbox is the brand that continues to be a pipeline for movies. Die cast toys are best represented by slot race cars. Apple revealed what will be on AppleTV in the fall during their panel at San Diego Comic-Con. We knew this was coming for some time.
The film is directed by Sam Hargrave, of Extraction fame. John Cena stars as Sean, an ex-soldier who returns home to his family after a successful mission. The night Jessica Biel and her old friends Sam Richardson and Arturo Castro were supposed to spend reconnecting turned into a nightmare when the four of them are kidnapped, framed, and accused of stealing a nuke warhead. The group is now wanted by law and must clear their name one mistake at a time.
You know what it means: performing stunts with their cars, choppers and bikes that remind them of Matchbox toys as children. The mix of carnage, comedy and violence is so well blended that you’ll think the scene came right out of Fast & Furious.
Matchbox: The Movie, starring Corey Stoll and Golshifteh Faahani, will be available on Apple TV in October.
