Hawaii Lt Gov Sylvia Luke indicted on bribery and conspiracy charges

You can now hear Fox News stories!
Democratic Hawaii Lt. Gov. Sylvia Luke has been indicted on criminal charges for conspiracy to commit corruption, bribery as well as falsifying reports of the candidate committee. This stems from a bribe that she is alleged to have taken in her capacity as state legislator in 2022.
Indictment: Local businessman Tobi Solidum, a lobbyist and local politician offered Luke $35,000 in connection with a COVID-19 contract that a company recommended by him had been awarded to the state.
Solidum, former Hawaii Transportation Department employee Ford Fuchigami and Leo Asuncion – a former Hawaii Public Utility Commission official – were also charged as part of a state Attorney General’s investigation.

The five defendants all were caught up in the January investigation of Attorney General Anne Lopez, which grew out of an federal corruption probe.
Solidum was the representative of the National Kidney Foundation of Hawaii which held contracts with Hawaii to provide COVID-19 test sites.
According to prosecutors, Solidum, whose client’s contract was about to expire, met Luke in a steakhouse. He allegedly handed her two $5,000 check made payable to Friends of Sylvia Luke.

Solidum, who allegedly promised to pay Luke $70,000 for her 35 employees, reportedly told Luke that they would have them all by next week.
According to documents, Luke is said to have replied “Oh wow” and added “That’s fantastic.”
Luke acknowledged accepting two checks for $5,000, but she denied that more money was involved. She also denied any influence of money on her decision-making.

In a post on social media, she stated that “I have never given special treatment to any contributor.” She also added that “integrity and honesty were her top priorities throughout her entire career.”
Indictment also claims that Solidum seemed to have been trying to influence Luke’s forthcoming run for lieutenant-governor. Solidum allegedly said to another representative about Luke, “All that I have to do now is give her even more money,” according the indictment.

Hawaii Gov. Josh Green demanded that Luke resign within hours of the indictment.
Green, a local media outlet in Maui Now told Maui Now that Green should consider formal resignation to deal with this issue and move the state forward.

Coffee drinkers may cut heart disease risk with up to 5 cups a day

You can now hear Fox News stories!
You may not feel bad about drinking another cup of coffee.
According to the American Heart Association, consuming 400 milligrams (about five 8-ounce coffee cups) of caffeine per day is safe for healthy adults. It may also be associated with a reduced risk of cardiovascular disease, stroke, and heart failure. These findings were published in Circulation on Monday.
Reviewers also concluded that plain black coffee is more likely to provide the benefits than drinks with heavy cream, syrups and sugar.
Scientists used electricity to make coffee and discovered what makes it taste good
According to Fox News Digital, “for most healthy adults up to 400 milligrams caffeine per day appears safe”, said South Carolina registered dietitian Lauren Manaker. She was not part of the study.
The latest research shows that moderate coffee consumption is associated with lower risks of cardiovascular disease, strokes, heart failure, and type 2 diabetes. This is good news for coffee drinkers.
Manaker warned, however, about the importance of what coffee drinkers add.

She said that the way you drink your coffee is important. The benefits are most evident with black, plain coffee. You may lose some benefits if you add sugar, syrups, and cream.
American Heart Association has also stressed that caffeine-containing drinks and coffee are not to be grouped together, as energy drinks often have much higher levels of caffeine.
The higher caffeine intake, particularly in energy drinks and shots of energy drink, has been linked to elevated blood pressure.
Manaker stated that “coffee and energy drink are different things and should not be treated as such.”

Energy drinks can contain up to four times as much caffeine than regular coffee. They often have added ingredients and the higher dosages are linked with increased blood pressure and irregular rhythms. This is the one I would warn people to stay away from.
Researchers also found that caffeine does not affect all people equally. Age, medication, genetics, and the rate at which caffeine is metabolized by the body can affect an individual’s risk and tolerance.

There is still a need for more research, especially because most of the evidence that is available is based on observations.

Manaker stated that there is no caffeine limit for everyone. Your age, medications, genetics, and the speed at which your body eliminates caffeine will all influence how you react. You might feel jittery at night or wake up in the middle of the night if your colleague feels great.

Influencer brothers Andrew and Tristan Tate arrested in Miami for rape and trafficking charges in the UK

According to U.S. authorities, the federal government arrested brothers Andrew and Tristan Tate in Miami on Saturday. Marshals Service.
Authorities in the United States did not announce charges immediately. Brady McCarron told The Associated Press, a Marshals Service spokesperson, that the sealed warrant had been issued.
“Today, U.S. “Marshals in the Southern District of Florida have arrested Andrew Tate and Tristan Tate in pursuant to extradition procedures,” said a spokesperson for CBS News. These arrests were in compliance with treaties and agreements between law enforcement agencies that govern extraditions by the Justice Department.
Crown Prosecution Service in England is an organisation that prosecutes crimes. They announced that there were four new victims who came forward. The charges include rape, child abuse, sexual trafficking and extreme pornography.
According to the CPS, Andrew Tate is charged with “seven additional counts of sexual abuse, three more counts for facilitating or arranging trafficking, three other counts for assault causing actual bodily injury, as well as 19 charges for crimes related to extreme pornography and indecent pictures of children.”
CPS is prosecuting Tristan Tate (38), with “one charge of sexual assault and two charges of rape” as well as three counts for arranging trafficking to facilitate sexual exploitation.
According to reports, the incidents occurred between July 2010 and august 2017.
The CPS Special Crime Division’s head Malcolm McHaffie said that the decision to charge was made after receiving a new file from Bedfordshire Police. This brings the number of victims in the case up to seven.
Joseph McBride is the attorney who represents the Tate Brothers. He said that Andrew Tate and Tristan Tate were innocent. The arrests, he added, are a political hit.
McBride stated in the statement that “this extradition request has only one goal: to kidnap Andrew Tate and Tristan by using paperwork, before an American juror exposes the facts to the world.” We are confident that Andrew Tate and Tristan Tate, once an impartial judge has seen the evidence and the Department of Justice takes action against this abuse of authority by the Department, will be free. America doesn’t do Britain’s dirty political work. “Not here.” Never.”
They are wanted by the United Kingdom for rape, human trafficking and promoting hypermasculinity.
They are both dual citizens of the United States and Britain who have moved to Romania since 2016. In 2022 they were detained in Romania, accusing them of taking part in schemes designed to entice women into sexual exploitation. The accused denied the allegations, and due to legal and procedural errors in handling the case, it was dropped.

New Alzheimer’s blood test predicts who is likely to develop dementia in 5 to 10 years

According to new research, a simple blood test that detects a protein associated with Alzheimer’s could help older adults predict cognitive decline up to 10 years before symptoms are visible.
The Harvard research presented in London at the Alzheimer’s Association International Conference and published simultaneously in The Journal of the American Medical Association could change how doctors evaluate dementia risk and prepare patients for the disease.
Researchers say that by measuring the blood biomarker p-tau217 which measures the accumulation of harmful proteins in the mind, doctors may be able soon to determine the risk for Alzheimer’s disease, much as they do with cholesterol tests when estimating heart disease risks.
Alzheimer’s blood tests may predict symptoms years in advance, but experts urge caution
Researchers tracked 2,700 adults with a cognitively sound age of 70 on average for up to 10 years.
Researchers found that individuals without symptoms who had high levels of tau217 were at a 78% risk of cognitive impairment in 10 years, and one-third of those with the same level of tau217 within 5 years. Even moderately high levels posed a risk of 45% over the course of a decade.
Fox News App: Read on the App
The ptau217 is a form of modified tau that forms tangles within the brain. It is also associated with memory problems. According to researchers, the blood test revealed information that was beyond standard brain scans or genetic testing.

The study was led by Rachel Buckley who is an Associate Professor of Neurology at Harvard Medical School. She said that the results provide the most clear evidence to date showing dementia can be diagnosed years before symptoms begin.
In a release, she stated that “once verified, these tests can be used for recruiting patients to clinical trials to treat cognitive decline and dementia.”

These tests will be useful in the future when treatment is approved early on the disease’s process. They could guide patients, their families, and doctors with monitoring and decision-making.

Researchers cautioned that the researchers warned that ptau217 alone cannot predict an individual’s future. Age, genetics and kidney function, as well as racial and ethnic background, can all influence the biomarker level and dementia risk.
To perfect the risk estimations, it was emphasized that longer studies with more diverse groups are needed.

Maria Carrillo said that future treatments should target the early stages of Alzheimer’s disease, before symptoms like memory loss begin to appear.
She told Fox News Digital that earlier identification could enable people to start interventions before symptoms appear.

Hegseth’s plan to screen military members for low testosterone raises concern for doctors: “Not a performance drug”

Doctors are skeptical of the goals and the program announced by Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth a day ago.
Hegseth stated that all military personnel over the age of 30 would be tested as part of regular medical assessments. Younger servicemen will also have the opportunity to test their testosterone levels in order to “operate at the highest level possible.” They will have the choice of testosterone replacement therapy if they are prescribed treatment.
Hegseth often comments on physical standards in the military and links appearance, masculinity and combat readiness. Hegseth has not said what this new policy will mean for women service members. Other details are still to be announced.
The policy is expected to cost a lot to implement, and doctors have raised a number of concerns. The Endocrine Society, the American College of Physicians, and other national organizations recommend against screenings of testosterone levels. These can vary based on factors such as age, lifestyle, and time of the day.
Testosterone within the normal range does not have a performance-enhancing effect, according to Dr. Celine Gunder, CBS News’ medical correspondent for KFF Health News and its editor-at large. For a man who is truly low in testosterone, the replacement may help with mood and libido. The study has shown that it does not improve thinking or fatigue. It also doesn’t make healthy 30 year-olds better soldiers.
No link between how they feel, look or act masculine
The body produces testosterone naturally. The hormone has a positive impact on mood, energy and muscle mass. Men’s libido is improved and sperm counts are increased. It is not inherently associated with an increase in capability or strength, according to Dr. Marcus Goncalves, Director of NYU Langone Health’s Holman Division for Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolism.
The normal range of a person’s masculinity is between 270 and 900 plus. This scale does not reflect how men they feel, look or act. Someone could be normal if they are at 350 and someone else could be at 650,” Goncalves stated.
Goncalves explained that stress, lack of sleep, and excessive exercise are all factors which can lead to low testosterone. He said that all of these factors may be prevalent among servicemen. Previous research has shown that training in the military can affect testosterone levels.
Goncalves explained that when testosterone levels drop due to lifestyle choices, it is “transient” and “reversible,” with the hormone returning naturally as soon as the circumstances change.
He added that there is no evidence to suggest that temporarily lowering testosterone levels can improve performance.
Goncalves explained that testosterone levels naturally reach their peak around 30 to 40 years of age, and then drop by about 1 percent per year.
Goncalves stated that low testosterone could lead to fatigue, depression, and poor concentration. He said that young men are “very unlikely to have low testosterone.” However, he noted that symptoms of low testosterone could also come from “20 different reasons.”
Gounder said that if a male in their 30s or early 40s is experiencing low testosterone, this could be a sign of other things, such as extra weight, poor sleep, addictions to opioids and chronic stress. This is a description of a large part of the military lifestyle. What works is treating the root cause. “Handing him an hormone only treats the number, and the cause is left untouched.”
Tests are complex and costly
It can be challenging to determine a person’s testosterone level because it can fluctuate so widely. Goncalves says that it’s best to test people between 8-10 a.m. when testosterone levels are typically highest. He said that all reference ranges were calibrated according to this period. Idealy, the person should fast before taking the test.
He said that if a low testosterone level is detected, the test should be repeated. Multiple appointments are required to diagnose low testosterone.
Gounder estimated that blood draw alone will cost the military “tens and millions” of dollars per year. She said that the cost of follow-up testing, treatment, and monitoring would be even higher.
Gounder said, “There is no analysis published that shows this to be a wise use of funds, which should matter in an administration concerned about waste, fraud, and abuse.” The Endocrine Society examined this exact question and found that it was not necessary to screen men for testosterone levels. The military will spend significant amounts of money on a program that science has determined is not worth it.
The risks of testosterone therapy
Anabolic steroids are used to boost testosterone in the Testosterone Replacement Therapy. These steroids are administered by injection, orally or as a gel or patch.
It is well known that the therapy increases red blood cell production. The risk of blood clots can increase if the levels of hormones rise. Goncalves explained that these clots could lead to pulmonary embolisms or kidney injury.
Goncalves stated that testosterone replacement therapy may also stop the body from producing hormones on its own. Testes shrink, and the sperm count drops. Goncalves says that this “unintended result” could affect fertility in men looking to start a family. The increased testosterone may also convert into estrogen and cause breast tissue to grow.
Goncalves noted also that widespread screenings required to test all service members over 30 years of age could lead to “a high risk” of false positive results. This can “lead unnecessary medical tests and overtreatment”.
Goncalves stated that the risks of testosterone replacement are outweighed by the benefits for people with medical conditions such as testicular problems, injuries or pituitary disorders. For people already producing enough testosterone, “very little” evidence supports the treatment.
We don’t know if men older than 30 are healthier or stronger if they have a lower testosterone level. Gounder stated that there is evidence to suggest it is a risk. Launching a mass-screening program without following science is not a good idea.
The Optimization Industry
Hegseth’s announcement coincides with a trend among wellness influencers, marketers and others who promote ways to “optimize” a person’s lifestyle and body.
Even unregulated peptides have seen a rise in interest. Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Secretary of Health and Human Services, has described himself as a “big supporter” of these medications. The Food and Drug Administration under his supervision is also considering relaxing some restrictions.
Gounder stated that testosterone replacement therapy prescriptions have “more-than tripled” in the United States, and many of these cases involve “men who weren’t properly diagnosed.”
Goncalves stated that the current trend is to optimize a healthy body. It seems that people assume that increasing your level will always lead to better results. But there are many examples of this in medicine.

Beyond the Gates earns first-ever bids

On Tuesday, the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences released a complete list of Daytime Emmy nominees for 2026. The nominations include a mix of new and classic shows.
Beyond the Gates is the first broadcast network soap in decades to be nominated for 15 Emmys. (The documentary Beyond the Gates Welcome to the Neighborhood also received a nomination, but NATAS told Gold Derby that it did not count towards the overall total of the soap).
The Young and the Restless, despite increased competition, was the soap with the highest number of bids for the third consecutive year, 18 bids.
Both are competing in the Best Daytime Drama Series category against General Hospital which received 13 nominations and Days of Our Lives which got eight. The Bold and the Beautiful did not win the award for best daytime drama series, but it still received seven mentions.
Beyond the Gates has two nominees for Best Lead Actress: Tamara Tunie and Karla Mosley. They are joined by Stacy Haiduk, Michelle Stafford and Heather Tom from The Bold and the Beautiful.
Clifton Davis (the leading actor of Beyond the Gates) was shocked to learn that he had been snubbed for Best Lead Actor by Eric Braeden, Steve Burton, Scott Clifton, Thorsten Kaye, and Christian Jules LeBlanc.
Trisha Mann Grant, Timon Kyle Durrett and Mike Manning are the Beyond the Gates nominees for Best Supporting Actress/Actor. The Young and the Restless, Days of Our Lives, The Bold and the Beautiful, and General Hospital are the other nominees.
The top chat shows for Best Daytime Talk Series include 3rd Hour of Today (with Drew Barrymore), The Kelly Clarkson Show (with Kelly Clarkson), Today With Jenna & Friends and The View. Last year’s Best Daytime Talk Series winner was Live With Kelly and Mark.
The nominees for host are Joy Behar (The View), Whoopi Goldberg (The Kelly Clarkson Show), Alyssa Fah Griffin (Alyssa Farah), Sara Haines (Sunny Hostin & Ana Navarro), Tamron Hall (“Tamron Hall”), Jennifer Hudson (“The Jennifer Hudson Show”), and Sherri Shepherd “Sherri”.
