JetBlue opens new Boston BlueHouse lounge
Boston is having a blue day.
JetBlue launched its new BlueHouse Lounge at Boston Logan International Airport on Monday. This is a significant step in the company’s efforts to rebuild as an airline that offers higher-tier options to travelers who have money to spend (or points to redeem).
JetBlue opened its second BlueHouse lounge in Boston, after the first one was launched at New York John F. Kennedy International Airport JFK late 2025.
According to a JD Power report, these are the best airport lounges in America for 2026.
JetBlue calls itself “New York’s hometown airline”, but the company is equally at home in Boston. There, it competes fiercely with Delta Air Lines to dominate BOS. It controls Terminal C, Boston’s main airport, and lends its check-in desks and gates to Cape Air and Etihad Airways.
Boston has a thriving market with a high premium yield and many passengers who are willing to pay for comfort when flying, for either business or pleasure. This passenger group — and “premium revenues” that they generate — are becoming increasingly important for airlines. They have seen better results by catering to their highest spenders, and frequent frequent flyers.
JetBlue has made the lounge at Boston’s Logan Airport a vital piece of infrastructure, as it continues to establish itself in Boston. JetBlue is also preparing to revamp Terminal C with a multi-billion dollar transformation.
The lounge opens at 5 am on Thursday 27th August, directly opposite Gate C25.
The lounge is chic and stylish, with plenty of options for seating, cocktails, food and snacks, and coffee.
JetBlue’s JFK Lounge was described as a cozy, homey “New York City Apartment-style” lounge. The Boston location is more of an homage to Boston itself. The airline’s senior Vice President of Marketing and Brand described the lounge as “emulating an elegant, warm New England home” in a recent press release. The feeling is good, but it’s more of a trip through Boston.
The lounge’s aesthetic is a perfect match for JetBlue president Marty St. George. He gave members of media a guided tour on Monday.
There are many references to Boston, big and small. From a miniature model of a Dunkin’ Donuts on a bookcase to a wall that is a replica the Green Monster Scoreboard in Fenway Park, to a workspace built to resemble the Boston Public Library.
The hotel is full of Boston-themed “Easter Eggs” such as a painting featuring St. George on a Red Sox Baseball Card and an Embraer E-190.
There are many different areas in this apartment. The main bar is in the middle of the room, and there are two lounge dining areas on either side. They feel separate and smaller despite the fact that they’re part of the layout. The custom lighting in the middle bar was turned off during our visit, but it is intended to be a tribute to the John Hancock Tower’s beacon.
There’s a lot to choose from at the bar. Jackson Cannon, beverage director of Equal Measure cocktail bar and Publick House craft beer curator has designed the cocktail menu. Also available are wine and universal cocktails. On the other side of the bar, there is a coffee bar that serves specialty drinks made by baristas using George Howell Coffee. There are several coffee and soft drinks stations that you can self-serve throughout the lounge.
You’ll see an open kitchen and large buffet when you turn right, away from the bar. The kitchen is a complete one, with a focus on hot-plated dishes as opposed to the New York Lounge’s grab and go approach.
JetBlue will offer local dishes throughout the day, such as classic North Shore Roast Beef Sandwiches and Lobster Rolls. The kitchen has been fully outfitted. The breakfast menu was the focus of our morning tour. It included dishes such as egg sandwiches, bacon with maple syrup, cinnamon rolls and avocado toast.
The “Candy Closet” is a secret spot that’s stocked with Madeleine Candy Shop. A beverage station located just outside the kitchen serves soft drinks, coffee and other beverages.
Travelers with keen eyes may notice that the mural above the buffet pays tribute to Richard Scarry’s “The Busy World” books. It includes an illustration adapted from Scarry’s work featuring JetBlue in his style. Scarry was born Boston.
There are dining areas on either side of your kitchen.
With two rooms, there’s plenty of seating either side.
It’s a place to relax and play games. You’ll also find the scoreboard.
In the “Library Workspace” there are a number of different seating options, from tables to hutches with lamps in a library style similar to those found at Boston Public Library. The private booths are also available, but they are closed only by curtains and not with doors. This means that some noise may be heard. The curtains should at least muffle noises, as they are heavy.
There are also a couple of fun and hidden features, such as a photobooth with airplane seats.

JetBlue is working to prevent the problem of overcrowding in airport lounges that has plagued other airlines for many years.
The lounge in New York will also be restricted, but the airline intends to extend access to both lounges so that passengers on Mint domestic business-class flights can enjoy the benefits. This does not apply to passengers on BlueFirst flights, which is the new airline short-haul product. Only passengers who are flying Mint Flex or Mint fares will be eligible. Access to the lounge is not available for “Mint Base”, which is the airline’s base fare.
The lounge is open to:
JetBlue Premier Card holders pay $499 annually for the card.
Mosaic 4, the highest-level elite members in JetBlue’s TrueBlue loyalty program.
Mint Business Class cabins are available for domestic and international flights.
Members of Mosaic 4, Premier Card card holders and members can invite one guest for free. Each additional guest is $39 Mint customers are allowed to bring non-Mint visitors for an additional $39 per guest.
Members of Mosaic 1 or Mosaic 2 as well as JetBlue Plus Card holders and JetBlue Business Card holder can purchase access to the lounge for $79 each. Mosaic 3 Members can enter the lounge at a cost of $59 per person.
The Points Guy has independently collected the information on JetBlue Plus, JetBlue Business and JetBlue Premier cards. Card details displayed on this site have not been provided or reviewed by card issuers.
Bottom Line
JetBlue’s new Boston lounge is a sign that the airline has stepped up its premium image.
JetBlue’s expansion of the lounge network remains to be determined. There are some rumors about a Fort Lauderdale lounge, but there is no confirmation.

World shares mostly gain as US ups economic pressure on Iran
BANGKOK, Thailand (AP) – Shares in Europe and Asia were largely higher on Tuesday after U.S. stock prices drifted in a mixed manner ahead of events that could move the market later this week.
The oil prices dropped after U.S. Treasury Sec. Scott Bessent issued new sanctions against Iran. He also warned countries that continued to do business with Iran would be subjected to retaliation.
The DAX in Germany gained 0.5%, to 26,240.76. In Paris the CAC 40 added 0.3%, to 8,480.52. The FTSE 100 in Britain rose 0.1% to 10,869.93.
Futures for S&P 500 rose by 0.3%, while those for Dow Jones Industrial Average increased 0.2%.
During Asian trading, Tokyo’s Nikkei 225 gained 0.5% to 65,856.43. SoftBank Group shares rose 2.3%.
Kospi, the South Korean stock exchange, reversed its early losses and gained 0.7%, reaching 6,742.74, as investors bought tech stocks again, taking advantage of bargains.
The Hang Seng index in Hong Kong was virtually unchanged, at 25,511,10 dollars. Meanwhile, the Shanghai Composite index rose 0.2% to 3,889.44 dollars.
The S&P/ASX 200 index in Australia rose 0.7%, to 9,164.60.
Taiwan’s Taiex climbed 0.9% while India’s Sensex fell 0.2%.
The U.S. Treasury Department’s efforts to calm down certain areas of the U.S. bond market have eased up a little bit on Monday. This has helped relieve pressure from stocks.
S&P 500 fell 0.3% while Dow Industrials gained 0.3%. The Nasdaq Composite fell by 0.8%.
The decline was led by tech stocks. They’ve had big swings recently due to worries that the frenzy around artificial-intelligence technology has sent prices too high and huge demand for AI chips will falter if AI doesn’t yield enough profits.
Nvidia, the chip giant that has been a huge winner in the AI boom, fell 2.9% Monday. The company will release its earnings quarterly report on Wednesday, which could determine the direction of AI stocks. Micron Technology fell 5.8%, while Broadcom dropped 2.6%.
On the bond markets, the yield on the 10-year Treasury fell to 4.69%, from 4.74%, late Friday. It is now back to the level it reached last week, before the U.S. Treasury Department made a surprising announcement to boost the amount of Treasurys that they planned to buy.
The longer-term Treasury rates rose through the summer, mainly due to concerns about inflation and government debt. The high yields are making borrowing more expensive, for all borrowers, including the government. They have already pushed mortgage rates up and hurting the housing market.
The latest talk about using Treasury General Account funds to finance the purchase of bonds with longer maturities gave the markets something to chew Monday and they liked it. In a recent commentary, Stephen Innes from SPI Asset Management stated that long yields had fallen and the curve was flattened.
He said: “But, there’s a big difference between making the bond market blink an afternoon or solving the problem.”
Kevin Warsh will deliver the keynote address at a Jackson Hole economic symposium on Friday. This is where previous policy announcements have taken place.
According to analysts, Warsh will likely discuss inflation and the Fed’s plans for dealing with it.
Brent crude (the international standard) is trading at a price above $72 per barrel, which was the level before the Iran war began late in February.
Brent crude dropped 2% in the early hours of Tuesday to $88.74 a barrel. U.S. benchmark oil fell 2.2%, to $83.14 a barrel.
Brent fluctuated between $72 to $102 last month as the United States and Iran tried and failed to reach an agreement that would permit oil tankers again to leave the Persian Gulf. New U.S. sanction announced on Monday have helped to drag Iran’s currency rial down to record lows against the U.S. Dollar.
The U.S. Dollar rose from 159.10 Japanese yen to 159.30 yen in other transactions. The euro traded at $1.1670 – up from $1.1667.

Situational Awareness, star AI hedge fund that nearly imploded, now being probed by the SEC
Situational awareness, the AI-focused hedge fund which was Wall Street’s brief obsession is experiencing a bad month.
Leopold Aschenbrenner (a twenty-something OpenAI alumni) led the company to invest in a wide range of AI projects and enjoyed incredible growth for some time. A decline in AI stock prices at the end July wiped billions off the value of the company. Federal regulators are also reportedly investigating the firm.
The New York Times reported that the Securities and Exchange Commission had subpoenaed banks who did business with this hedge fund. According to the publication, subpoenas were issued for banks who supervised trading by the hedge fund and provided funding.
The government warned banks that they should “preserve all information” regarding the hedge fund. However, it also noted that Situational awareness hasn’t been charged with any crimes.
Situational Awareness declined to comment on TechCrunch’s request, but informed the Times it was to be anticipated that high-profile funds would receive scrutiny and the company “would cooperate to the maximum extent” with any regulatory requests.
This company’s very public reliance on AI could serve as an example of the unstoppable growth trajectory that is rumored to be sweeping through this industry.

Gavin Newsom is selling his Sacramento mansion
Gavin Newsom sold his Sacramento home for $7.5million on Monday — nearly double the price he paid for it seven years earlier.
Newsom and Jennifer Siebel Newsom, his wife, announced in 2019 that they bought the 12,000 square foot residence located in Fair Oaks. Fair Oaks is only 15 miles away from the Capitol. The sale of his house comes four months before his end-of-term as Governor and his expected run for the presidency.

Newsom purchased the suburban mansion to avoid the 150-year old property, which was the residence of 13 former governors. Most recently, Jerry Brown moved in to the house in 2015, after it had been used as a museum. Brown moved into the Victorian three-story home following a $4,000,000 renovation that updated electrical and plumbing. Ronald Reagan was the last Governor to reside there prior to Brown. He lived there for just a few weeks in 1967.
Newsom stated that he chose to not live in the governor’s official mansion because he wanted to be closer to his children. Fair Oaks’ seven-bedroom mansion has a wine cellar with 5,000 bottles, a pool in a resort style, and tennis courts. At the time, he paid $3.7 million for it.
Matthew Hindy is a real-estate agent at Nick Sadek Sotheby’s International Realty which lists the property. When SFGATE contacted him, he declined to make any comments.

The governor’s wife and children are moving 90 miles to the west, to Marin County. They lived there before Newsom was elected. They bought a house in Kentfield, California for $9,000,000. Politico stated that their original plan was to keep the Sacramento house and divide their time between the two places. Their plan was to also enroll their oldest daughter in high school, as a freshman. According to this outlet, their children are now all enrolled at school in Marin County.
The family purchased a house in Marin County in 2024 to ensure continuity in their children’s educational experience. Izzy Gardon is a Newsom spokesperson who told SFGATE that the sale of the family’s Sacramento house was the next phase in this transition. It was not clear from the office whether this meant that Newsoms had already moved to Marin full-time.

They had owned their home in Kentfield before, and raised their children there until Newsom became governor. In 2011, they bought a home of 1,800 square feet with a beautiful view of Mount Tamalpais. After he was elected lieutenant-governor of California, he bought the house for $5.9million.

Newsom becomes the third governor in a row to divide his time between Sacramento, California and another area of the state. Brown commuted to Oakland from Los Angeles for part of his tenure, while Arnold Schwarzenegger did the same.

Bessent confirms Treasury auctions continue amid buyback increase
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent stated on Monday, that regular Treasury auctions for U.S. Debt will continue as usual. This follows his announcement of an increase in size of the buybacks of securities with longer maturities.
Bessent addressed a Monday press conference in which he discussed a plan to “economically asphyxiate” the Iranian regime by implementing secondary sanctions against Iran’s trading partner.
The Treasury Secretary was asked during the press conference if the agency would reduce the auction size for long-term bonds in the future or if other tools from the toolbox of the Department could be used to lower the yields.
We will continue our normal program of auctions. Bessent stated that you would hear from us at the start of next quarter. In response to another question, he added that “we haven’t purchased a single Bond yet.”
The Treasury Yields Hit Multi-Decade Highs Amid a Surging National Debt
Bessent pointed out that auctions for longer-dated Treasurys such as 10-year notes and 20-year and 30-year bond are not scheduled until September, which would be the latest the new structure of buybacks could enter into effect after Sept. 9th.
The Treasury announced the changes on August 19, which increased the maximum authority for buybacks by at least $2 billion. This will allow buybacks of any size to be based upon market conditions.
Treasury is expected to provide additional information on future buybacks after Nov. 4.
Treasury stated in its announcement, “the increase in buybacks reflects Treasury’s desire to provide more liquidity support in long-dated nominal sector where market participants consistently sponsor the sectors. This is evidenced by the large volume of quality offers Treasury receives regularly in the longer-dated purchase operations.”
US DEBT HITS 40 TRILLION MILLIONE MILESTONE FIRST TIME EVER
The announcement last week lowered the yields of 10-year Treasury notes and 20-year and 30-year bond for a brief period, but they had largely reversed these declines at the end of the previous week. On Monday, yields declined modestly.
Bessent stated last week that higher buybacks were intended to provide liquidity for a less liquid segment of the market. This is particularly true in the 30-year-old sector. The longer-dated Treasurys also compete with the heavy issuances of corporate bonds, which are higher in yield, amid AI buildout.
Treasurys with higher yields may put fiscal pressure on the government as it is required to pay more in interest for servicing the national debt. Last week, the U.S. national gross debt reached $40 trillion.
BESSENT LAYS OUT THE 5 PRINCIPLES DIRECTING TRUMP ADMIN’S APPROACH FOR ECONOMIC STAFFCRAFT
Treasury Department did not specify the source of funding for Treasury buybacks in its announcement. The Treasury General Account at the Federal Reserve, according to a Reuters article, could be used as a funding source. This would eliminate the need for new Treasury bills with shorter maturities and would not eat up the country’s reserves.
TGA is the Federal Government’s Checking Account. It’s what pays for all of its daily operations, including federal employee salaries, government contracts, and Treasury’s principal and interest obligations.
The TGA had about $940 Billion in funding as of Wednesday. Treasury has bolstered the TGA in order to pay some of the $166 Billion in refunds due to importers following a Supreme Court decision that invalidated a major portion of Donald Trump’s Tariff Regime.

The TGA had an average of $840 billion in the last year. This was its highest balance ever, excluding the rapid increase during the COVID-19 Pandemic.
