“Wonder Man” has been canceled at Disney+, Variety has learned exclusively.
The news comes despite the fact that Disney announced a Season 2 renewal for the show back in March, roughly two months after it debuted. According to sources, a writers’ room for Season 2 was never opened and the show’s writers have been released to pursue other projects.
Yahya Abdul Mateen II and Ben Kingsley starred in the series as Simon Williams and Trevor Slattery, respectively. The Season 1 cast also included X Mayo, Demetrius Grosse, Zlatko Burić, Arian Moayed and Olivia Thirlby. It was created by Destin Daniel Cretton and Andrew Guest, with Cretton also directing the first two episodes. Guest served as showrunner.
“Wonder Man” debuted to strong critical acclaim upon its premiere, with the first season holding a 91% critical approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. In her review for Variety, Alison Herman wrote, “Abdul-Mateen and Kingsley make their characters equally ridiculous and romantic, urged on by a motivation more intimate and individual than saving the world.”
Abdul-Mateen earned an Emmy nomination for outstanding lead actor in a comedy series for his work on the show, making him the only live-action actor to get an Emmy nod for both a Marvel and DC project following his win for work on HBO’s “Watchmen.”
Disney did not release any viewership data for the show, though it did make a single appearance in the Nielsen streaming top 10 charts the week of its release. The show managed to crack the number eight position on the streaming top 10 originals chart for the week of Jan. 26-Feb. 1, but fell off the chart the following week.
According to an individual with knowledge of the situation, while “Wonder Man” is not proceeding with Season 2, the characters featured in the series could still appear in other Marvel projects in the future.
The official logline stated, “Aspiring Hollywood actor Simon Williams (Abdul Mateen) is struggling to get his career off the ground. During a chance meeting with Trevor Slattery (Kingsley), an actor whose biggest roles may be well behind him, Simon learns legendary director Von Kovak (Burić) is remaking the superhero film ‘Wonder Man.’ These two actors at opposite ends of their careers doggedly pursue life-changing roles in this film as audiences get a peek behind the curtain of the entertainment industry.”
The renewal for “Wonder Man” was an anomaly for Marvel, as virtually all of the live-action series they have launched on Disney+ have been single seasons. Those include shows like “WandaVision,” “The Falcon and The Winter Soldier,” “Hawkeye,” and “Moon Knight.” “Loki” starring Tom Hiddleston did air for two seasons, while the “WandaVision” spinoff “Vision Quest” is currently in the works. “WandaVision” also spawned the spinoff “Agatha All Along” starring Kathryn Hahn. Disney+ also relaunched the Marvel-Netflix series “Daredevil” under the title “Daredevil: Born Again” in March 2025, with the second season of that show debuting on March 24. A third season is slated to debut in 2027.

EXCLUSIVE: Hollywood’s response to the criminal sexual conduct allegations against Jared Leto will be revealing of where the industry stands on the MeToo movement. That’s the view of Mike Radford, the executive producer behind Jared Leto: Hollywood’s Dark Secret, the explosive BBC documentary about the Oscar-winning Dallas Buyers Club star.
The documentary, which premiered without any pre-publicity on Wednesday, detailed the experiences of 10 women, four of whom accused Leto of criminal sexual conduct. Leto has denied the allegations. “I have never sexually assaulted anyone in my entire life. These claims are absolutely and categorically false,” he said in a statement.
In an interview with Deadline, Radford said: “The Jared Leto case is a bellwether on where we are on the MeToo movement. There has been a lot of pushback in that area, and how the industry responds to the allegations about Jared Leto will tell us where the industry — both music and film — stands when serious allegations are made against one of their most powerful people.”
The BBC’s documentary is not the first time Leto has faced claims of misconduct. Allegations about Leto first took flight last year when Los Angeles DJ Allie Teilz posted on Instagram saying she had been assaulted by the actor when she was 17. This led to a report in U.S. media outlet Air Mail last year, in which nine women accused Leto of engaging in inappropriate behavior.
The report did not stop Leto from promoting Tron: Ares for Disney, but he was noticeably absent from the publicity campaign for Masters of the Universe, including not showing up at the premiere of the Amazon movie. His band, Thirty Seconds to Mars, is scheduled to tour next year.
Jessica Sartenaer, who produced and presents Jared Leto: Hollywood’s Dark Secret, said allegations about Leto have bubbled away on the internet for years. The BBC has counted 120 separate accusations made online relating to his behavior towards women.
“People haven’t been paying attention,” Sartenaer told Deadline. She hopes this will change after the interest in Jared Leto: Hollywood’s Dark Secret, which is being distributed internationally by BBC Studios.
“I feel like it will be very difficult for him to ride this one out. People are [now] really paying attention, and I just don’t see how he could be attached to another Hollywood project. However, I think his music career is maybe separate from that. He’s still got some diehard Thirty Seconds to Mars fans.”
Sartenaer began work on the BBC documentary last year after development producer Harry Pick spotted Teilz’s post on Instagram. Radford, who works in the BBC’s current affairs unit, took the project under his wing, having overseen similar documentaries, including Tim Westwood, Abuse of Power and Al Fayed: Predator at Harrods. The Leto film was directed by Alice McShane, whose credits include Russell Brand: In Plain Sight. Radford said the BBC’s public funding makes it uniquely well-positioned to shoulder lengthy journalistic investigations.
“We were really fortunate to have had that amount of time,” Sartenaer said. “These investigations are about building trust with people, with contributors, with sources. They are entrusting you with their most personal stories, something they have carried with them for years.”
Radford said the stories of Clara and Isabel (both pseudonyms) were important to getting the documentary over the line. Clara described how in 2006 she had sex with Leto at his home in California when she was 17, which would be classified as statutory rape in the state. Isabel, who appears on camera in the BBC film, alleged that she was sexually assaulted by Leto in Las Vegas in 2002.
They gave Leto and his representatives more than two weeks to respond to the allegations, but they did not reply to the BBC’s requests for comment. Leto only issued his denial hours after the documentary was released — and even then, the statement was not shared with Radford, Sartenaer, and the team.
Sartenaer said: “The courage of the women who have come forward for this investigation is just immeasurable, coming up against a very powerful man like Leto. I do think what they have done will empower many other women to speak their truth.”

Donna Mills, one of the best known television stars of the 1980s thanks to her role as Abby Cunningham on the CBS primetime soap “Knots Landing,” is throwing fans a surprise by joining OnlyFans at 85 years old.

Mills got her television start in 1966 with a supporting role on the CBS soap opera “The Secret Storm.” Her role as Madeline Reeves on the ABC soap opera “General Hospital” won her a Daytime Emmy Award for outsanding special guest performer in a drama series. Mills’ recent film roles include “Joy,” “Nope” and “Origin.”
Hollywood talent has been flocking to OnlyFans in recent months. “American Pie” and “Scary Movie” star Shannon Elizabeth launched her own OnlyFans profile in April and earned more than $1.2 million in her first seven days on the platform. She told People magazine that one of the reasons she was pivoting to OnlyFans was because she was growing tired of working in Hollywood where “other people controlled the narrative and the outcome of my career.”

The Clueless sequel series starring Alicia Silverstone has a new home — and a greenlight. Paramount+ has picked up the project, from Josh Schwartz, Stephanie Savage, Jordan Weiss and CBS Studios, as a limited series. Filming is slated to begin in Los Angeles in 2027.
This marks a homecoming for Clueless, which is a Paramount IP. The series is a sequel to the cult-classic 1995 Paramount Pictures teen comedy film starring Silverstone. She will reprise her role as the Beverly Hills’ it-girl Cher Horowitz and will serve as an executive producer on the sequel, which is an eventized, limited series version of the project that was previously in development at Peacock.
The general concept has remained the same: Picking up 30 years after the original film, beloved Beverly Hills icon Cher Horowitz (Silverstone) has figured out a lot: She’s successful in business and has mastered motherhood — that is, until her daughter’s high school years, and Cher finds that parenting a teenager makes her feel “clueless” all over again.
Schwartz, Savage and Weiss are writing the series, which is executive produced by Schwartz & Savage (The OC, Gossip Girl) via their Fake Empire banner, Weiss (Freakier Friday, Dollface), Silverstone and the original film’s writer-director Amy Heckerling and producer Robert Lawrence.
The green light from Paramount+ caps a seven-year journey by CBS Studios, which owns the TV rights to Clueless, to get a series based on the classic movie starring Silverstone, Stacey Dash, Brittany Murphy and Paul Rudd off the ground.
The studio initially developed a different Clueless series with different writers centered around Dash’s Dionne character, which was set up to Peacock for development in 2020. It ultimately did not move forward.
CBS Studios went on to take another stab at the IP with a new creative team, Schwartz, Savage and Weiss, and Silverstone on board as Cher. That sequel series again landed at Peacock in April 2025. A year later, the NBCUniversal streamer passed on it.
The new Paramount+ regime, which was not around when Clueless was originally taken out, had been tracking the project and took action when it became available.

The latest round of California TV tax incentives has not been made public yet but Clueless is rumored to have made the list.
This marks the first new series order by Paramount+ from corporate sibling CBS Studios since the regime change at the streamer following Skydance’s August 2025 acquisition of Paramount. Other scripted series greenlighted by Paramount+ post-merger include Laird, starring Kenneth Branagh, and 9/12, starring Jeremy Strong, both from Paramount’s other major TV studio, the streaming-focused Paramount TV Studios; as well as Discretion, starring Nicole Kidman and Elle Fanning; and Fear Not, headlined by Anne Hathaway.
CBS TV Studios’ predecessor, Paramount Network Television, was behind the 1996 half-hour comedy series Clueless, created by Heckerling, which ran for three seasons, one on ABC and two on UPN, with Rachel Blanchard playing Cher since Silverstone was not available, with Dash reprising her role as Dionne.
The Clueless movie (and 1996 series), loosely adapted from Jane Austen’s 1815 novel Emma, chronicled the adventures of Cher Horowitz, a stylish, wealthy and popular California girl who attends Bronson Alcott High.
Last summer, the film marked its 30th anniversary with a 35mm screening at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures, which reunited the original cast and Heckerling. Clueless was also recently added to the US National Film Registry by the Library of Congress.

The “Clueless” sequel series has found a new home. The show, which will see Alicia Silverstone reprise the role of Cher Horowitz, has been greenlit at Paramount+.
The project was originally set up for development at Peacock in early 2025, but it was reported in April 2026 that it was no longer moving forward at that streaming service. Sources say that Paramount+ has given the show a six-episode order. It is slated to begin production in Los Angeles in 2027. According to sources, the production has submitted paperwork with the California Film Commission to receive state tax subsidies.
As previously reported, the show will be set in the present day. The logline states, “Beloved Beverly Hills icon Cher Horowitz (Silverstone) has figured out a lot: She’s successful in business and has mastered motherhood—that is, until her daughter’s high school years, and Cher finds that parenting a teenager makes her feel ‘clueless’ all over again.”
The greenlight makes sense on a number of fronts. “Clueless” was originally released by Paramount Pictures in 1995, meaning the series will now stay in-house rather than going to an outside streamer. Universal Television was attached as co-studio when the project was set up at Peacock, but will now be produced solely by Paramount-owned CBS Studios.
In addition, Paramount+ has been in the market for more female-skewing content ever since the Paramount-Skydance merger was completed and Cindy Holland took on oversight of Paramount’s direct-to-consumer business. To that end, Holland’s team has already commissioned the legal drama “Discretion” starring Nicole Kidman and Elle Fanning as well as the limited series “Fear Not” starring Anne Hathaway.
The new “Clueless” series is written by Josh Schwartz, Stephanie Savage, and Jordan Weiss. All three are executive producers, with Schwartz and Savage producing under their Fake Empire banner.
