Appeals court rules ‘Alligator Alcatraz’ can stay open, rejecting push for federal environmental impact review

NEWYou can now hear Fox News articles. The 11th Circuit Court of Appeals majority ruled that the state-run facility, “Alligator Alcatraz,” was not under federal jurisdiction and not subject to federal laws requiring an impact assessment. The majority of the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that “Florida officials, not federal officials, constructed the facility.” The state controls the land and built the facility ‘entirely at its expense’. Lawyer says guards at ‘Alligator Alcatraz’ beat pepper-sprayed detainees. The court wrote that Florida received no federal reimbursement last year when U.S. district judge Kathleen Williams’ preliminary order ordering a gradual winding up of operations was issued. Williams found that a federal repayment plan had already been made. The appeals court paused Williams order just days after the August ruling. Abudu stated that the facility would not have been built or used as an immigration center without the federal defendants request. “The evidence of federal influence is perhaps most evident when we acknowledge immigration remains exclusively under the federal government’s jurisdiction. “Two of the groups that brought the suit — Friends of the Everglades, and the Center for Biological Diversity – said they would pursue the case when it returned to Williams for further litigation. Eve Samples said in a press release that “this fight is far from being over.” “Alligator Alcatraz hastily built in one of the nation’s most fragile ecosystems without the simplest environmental review, at great human and ecological cost. DOJ SUES NEW HAVEN, CONNECTICUT OVER SANCTUARY PRINCIPLES: ‘OPEN DISOBEYANCE’CLICK HERE FOR THE FOX NEWS APKEarlier this month, the lawyer for two migrants who were detained at ‘Alligator Alcatraz’ said that guards severely beaten and pepper-sprayed the detainees causing injuries to the head, shoulders and wrists. Gates Foundation plans to cut up to 500 jobs while undergoing review of Jeffrey Epstein ties

NEWYou can now listen Fox News articles. The Gates Foundation did not specify whether the planned job reductions are related to the review. The job cuts were announced earlier this year in conjunction with the foundation’s annual budget planning. The review has, however, brought renewed scrutiny to the foundation’s interactions with Epstein in the past and its policies on vetting partnerships. This has raised broader questions regarding governance at one of world’s largest charitable organizations. Gates Foundation CEO Mark Suzman ordered an external review early this year to assess the foundation’s past engagement with Epstein and our current policies on vetting and developing philanthropic partnership,” a press release said. The review is in progress, and we expect to receive an update from the board and management this summer. “BILL GATES CALLS SELF ‘FOOLISH,’ FOR SPENDING TIMES WITH CONVICTED SEROUS OFFENDER JEFFERY EPSTEINThe organization also stated that employees were informed of the job cuts in January during discussions about its 2026 budget. The press release stated that “this cap will reduce the Foundation’s current target of 2,375 jobs by up to 500 by 2030.” Targets and timelines would be calibrated annually. The Department of Justice released in February more than 3,000,000 Epstein’s investigative files, including personal email. The emails reportedly revealed that Bill Gates had affairs with Melinda Gates while they were married and sought medication for a sexually transmitted disease without her knowledge. “I did nothing illegal.” Gates stated, “I saw nothing illicit.” The Wall Street Journal reviewed a recording of a townhall meeting.
