Michael Jackson’s upcoming biopic has already attracted a lot of attention, but it is not all positive.
The film promises a positive look at the life of the pop icon, but questions are being raised about what was left out.
The project is under scrutiny now because of family divisions, creative decisions, and past controversy.
Michael Jackson Biopic Premieres Amid Mixed Reactions
The Jackson family and cast members made a splashy Hollywood debut for the highly anticipated film.
The premiere was both a celebration and a showcase of Jaafar Jackson’s early career, who takes on the role of his famous Uncle.
La Toya Jackson, Jermaine Jackson, Marlon Jackson and Jackie Jackson were all present, and they all expressed their admiration for Jaafar’s transformation.
La Toya was particularly impressed and told The Hollywood Reporter: “I was stunned. I have to tell that you think it is Mike. You think it’s Michael, not Jaafar.
The Jackson estate was a major influence on the development of the film and its narrative.
The Family’s Involvement in Michael Jackson Film Raises Questions

The film’s creators stressed that the Jackson family had a significant role in the production.
Michael Jackson’s son Prince Jackson was closely involved in the production, according to producer Graham King.
King said that Prince Jackson was “on set every day” when filming, and also participated in earlier stages of development.
His brother Bigi joined him to promote the film. They both attended premieres of high-profile films and publicly supported the project.
This level of involvement, however, has also sparked controversy. Some see it as a means to ensure authenticity. Others question whether such close supervision may have influenced which aspects of Michael Jackson’s life were highlighted or omitted.

Paris Jackson was conspicuously absent from the production. Her comments about the movie continue to spark discussion.
She chose not to take part in the play, citing her concerns about its script and portrayal of the events.
Paris stated her position candidly. She said that she “read one first draft of the script and made notes about what I found dishonest/didn’t sit well with me, and when they did not address it, I moved on with life.”
Her remarks suggested that there were deeper creative disagreements which were never resolved.
She elaborated in September on social media, writing: “They’re gonna make whatever they’re gonna make.” The reason I haven’t spoken out is because I am confident that many of you will be happy with the film. The film is aimed at a specific segment of my father’s fandom who still live in fantasy and they will be happy.
Her perspective adds a layer of complexity to the discussion, suggesting that all members of Jackson family are not in agreement on how Michael Jackson’s story should be portrayed.

The filmmakers have acknowledged that portraying a figure so polarizing can be challenging.
John Logan, the writer of the book, addressed the lack of certain voices in the research process. He explained that not everyone wanted be involved.
Logan said that certain family members were not interested in talking. They didn’t wish to be portrayed in the film or dramatized, and that was totally fine.
He also acknowledged the broader debate around the artist’s legacy. “And look, Michael’s a complex person, people have complex opinions, and that’s okay.” We chose to tell a positive story about his triumph, and we did that.
This decision has been one of the most controversial aspects of the film. Reports suggest that the original script contained references to allegations of sexual abuse of children, but these elements were eventually removed due to legal and logistical difficulties.
The changes led to delays and reshoots that further shaped the final product.
Performance Praise and Legacy Questions Collide

Despite the ongoing controversy, many people involved in the production of the film have praised Jaafar’s performance and commitment.
Mike Myers, co-star of the movie, admitted that he was “starstruck”, by how much the actor resembled the legendary performer.
Jaafar himself talked about the preparation required for this role. He said it involved “many months, even a couple of years of preparation, just to allow myself to understand what was behind the music, behind the moves, and what was behind that, which was Jaafar’s heart.”
He continued: “Ofcourse I wanted to pay close attention to the small details and nuances in the performances, but the most important thing was his essence, his heart, of how he truly dealt with people, his way of being with everyone. “That was the most incredible thing I could have asked for.”
La Toya defended the collaborative aspect of the project. She said, “It’s important that everyone in the family is involved and takes part in this so you get it right.” Many people believe they know the story, and they read about it, but the family can say yes or no.
She acknowledged that there were different opinions within her family, stating that “everyone has their opinion and choice.”
As the excitement grows around the film, the discussion about what the film chooses to show or what it leaves out also increases.
