A process of extraordinary regularization is currently underway in Spain. It is expected that more than 500,000 immigrants will be legalized.
Adult immigrants will need to show employment for the first year after proval of their work and residency permit. Minors’ status is regulated for a period of five years. It is a stark contrast to the U.S. where Donald Trump, who during his presidential campaign in 2024 said that undocumented
immigrants would be deported and immigration stopped.
In Spain the deadline to submit plications is June 30. The process will likely take three months once the documents are received. The Spanish government announced the program in January. It received over 43,000 requests in three days after the plication period was opened on 16 ril. In just one month, there were 549,596 plications. The Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez described the measure as an act of normalization and said that immigrants who would benefit from the measure are already a part of Spanish daily life. Romo’s entire family hopes to be able to take advantage of the measure. Romo and her family have plied for this benefit. “We were fortunate to learn through social media about a regularization procedure, so we rushed the time in order to complete the process,” she said. Romo, her husband (who works in construction), their two children (4 and 12) and her father plied for regularization after two years and the denial. The Barranquilla family fled Colombia seeking safety in 2024, having several businesses. They were threatened and extorted by criminal gangs. Romo is a teacher who has worked in a warehouse in Spain and as a tutor. “To emigrate you must be extremely brave. You leave your home, work, family, friends and colleagues. Romo, who said she had brought her life with her in a 10-kilo suitcase (22 pounds), added that “Spain was a country which welcomed immigrants.” She said, “I am truly hpy to have my kids here as a mom.”
Nguirane said, “I’ve been in Spain for over two years and I am very hpy to be able work and support my family when I receive my documents.” He received the confirmation just a few weeks ago that his case is being processed. Nguirane’s only employment option, according to him, is “occasionally helping a friend with maintenance work, but without any contract.” She cleans a hospital located in Terrassa – a town that is about 17 miles away from Barcelona, where the couple lives. Gueye explained that he took the girls to school while she left the house at five in the morning. Gueye hopes that once Nguirane receives his legal permit he will be hired to do sanitation work in the hospital, while also helping take care of their children. Nguirane’s family also seeks safety and stability. Gueye stated that “returning to Senegal was not on my agenda because it’s a place I haven’t lived, I don’t know and it makes me uncomfortable every time I visit, even for a short period of 15 days.” The second major regualtion in 20 Years
In order to ply for regularization immigrants must fulfill a number requirements and provide documentation. A passport and proof that the plicant has been living in Spain continuously for five months is required.
The immigrant must also provide proof of a clean criminal history, either from their country or where they lived for the past five years. In some cases officials will also ask for a certificate of vulnerability, which may be issued by a social service agency to verify that migrant’s are in disadvantaged circumstances, like difficulty obtaining employment or housing. 20 years ago. This is not only done in Spain but all over the world. “It’s a common practice,” said Veronica Jaramillo a lawyer with the Bayt al-Thaqafa Foundation in Barcelona, an organization that helps migrants.
While there are no official statistics, the #RegularizacionYa, the movement that is driving the regularization process in Spain, estimates that 500,000 undocumented immigrants live in Spain. Funcas, a think tank, estimated that this number would reach over 800,000. Regularization is beneficial to both immigrants and economies that have aging populations like Spain. , with 148 over-64s for every 100 under-16s. Jaramillo said that any “self respecting” country would do the same as Spain, and add more people to its Social Security system. Jaramillo says that it is “absolutely and completely utilitarian,” but “that’s the reason for the legalization.” Isabel Diaz Ayuso said the measure was meant to “manipulate censuses,” “culturally change Spain,” and to “sabotage election.” But immigrants who gain from the process of legalization will not be allowed to vote.
The Romo family and the Nguirane hope that the mass legalization will improve their prospects of living in a new country, where they are not only looking to settle but to also put down roots.

Louisiana passes a new m of congressional districts, dismantling a majority-Black district.

Louisiana Republicans have proved a new m of congressional districts today. The new m eliminates one district with primarily Black residents and draws re-drawn district that leans Republican.
After being tweaked by the state House, the m was proved this afternoon by the state Senate. It is expected to help elect 5 Republicans and 1 Democrat to Congress. Republicans have a 4-to-2 advantage within Louisiana’s House delegation. Legislators drew these new lines after a U.S. Supreme Court case,
– which found Louisiana’s existing congressional m to be a racial gerrymander. This ruling further weakened Voting Rights Act.
The new m retains a Black-majority congressional district which snakes from New Orleans all the way to Baton Rouge. It is expected that voting rights activists will challenge it. Louisiana has a third Black population. The bill’s author, Republican state senator Jay Morris, said, “We have a plan here that meets the traditional criteria for redistricting, and it is not racially biased.” “I think it’s very defensible.”
State Rep. Beau Beaullieu said, “We concentrated on the Democrat numbers and not the racial statistics when drawing.” Beau Beaullieu is a Republican who was in charge of drawing the ms for his party. They are careful to answer the questions, avoiding any negative answers but being cautious about whether they will be running for president.
On “Meet the Press”, I asked a few potential candidates about their plans for 2028. They included New Jersey Senator , Illinois Governor Kentucky Governor. They have stated that they do not rule out a presidential campaign. Other have said that they are focused on other issues. Others have stressed that they remain focused on more urgent issues. Minnesota Sen. 11001010 is now running for Governor and said she was focused on her job last year.
California Gov. Last fall,

Russia condemned after drone strikes Romanian apartment Building
Ukraine’s president Volodymyr Zelenskyy said this attack demonstrated why it is “necessary” to increase pressure on Russia to ensure that “this war doesn’t drag out or expand.” Meanwhile, European Union President Ursula von der Leyen stated that Russia’s “war against aggression has crossed another line.” Ukraine claimed to have shot down 217 drones. However, 14 of them, as well as a ballistic missile, managed to reach their targets in Ukraine. In a press release, Romania’s Ministry of National Defense stated that Romania radar detected several drones in its airspace. For the first time in his life, the New Yorker will be calling a team that he has been a fan of since childhood. Breen admitted to NBC News that he was “lying” if he said ‘there are no emotions’. Breen, who also works for ESPN and has been calling Knicks local games for more than 30 years, is not only a well-known ESPN broadcaster but he’s also a longtime Knicks game announcer. He was the radio announcer of the team from 1991 to 2004. Breen stated that he has been broadcasting Knicks games for more than half his life. Breen knows he owes a professional duty to viewers and the people responsible for the Finals broadcast. Breen has called many Knicks postseason games, including the Knicks’ dominant sweep over the Cleveland Cavaliers during the Eastern Conference Finals. Breen is a popular announcer in the NBA, but the chaos of social media makes it hard to tell who’s liked and disliked. Breen told reporters that he learned a lot from the very best. Marv Albert was the Knicks’ voice, and he called many big Knicks games against the Bulls, against the Heat, and against Pacers. By watching him, I was influenced, and this is how I learned. He was the NBA’s lead play-by voice from 1990 to 2021 on NBC, and NBA on TNT.
Breen was still a fan of Albert’s. Albert said to NBC News: “I understand it, but he’d have made it regardless.” “Mike’s play-by-play, which is out of this world, is fantastic. Has a great rport with all his broadcast partners. He knows the rules so well that he could ref a match.”
Albert and Breen first met in the 1980s when both worked for radio station WNBC. Albert describes Breen’s curiosity, and how he knew that he wanted to become a sportscaster. Albert recalls that a young Breen used to bombard him with questions. And as the two grew closer together, Breen began to sit in with headphones on and listen to a Knicks broadcast from Madison Square Garden. Years before he could do the job, he would even attend the broadcast. Albert: “I have known him from his earliest days, when he worked, and did some activities in the NBC newsroom,” Albert said. “He’s a great guy, and everyone loves it.”
Breen also tried to imitate Albert by using his famous catchphrase “Bang!” after some of NBA history’s biggest shots. Imagine Ray Allen’s 3-pointer from Game 6 of 2013 Finals, or Kyrie Irving in Game 7 2016 Finals. Albert said that he enjoys hearing “Bang!” and is hpy to hear the comparisons with his famous “Yes!”
