Friday Music Guide

Billboard’s Friday Music Guide is a guide that helps you find the most important releases of New Music Friday each week. This includes music that’ll be on everyone’s playlists for this weekend, as well as beyond.
We featured Olivia Rodrigo last week as well as Alex Warren, JENNIE, and many others.
This week Miley starts her new era of being a monophon with the first single from her upcoming album. Beyonce also celebrates her 20-year anniversary with a 27-track expanded edition, which includes B’sides as well as Spanish versions of the songs. ADELA releases her debut album PRIMA… and much more. Here are this week’s top picks:
Miley, “Bass Persuades”
Miley, who is now known as Miley, released the title track of her new album, Bass Persuades, a dance-pop track that’s hypnotic and shows kids how to dance. Miley not only shares wisdom as an icon (“Glue your eyes to the phone screen…Just glance out of the window, and what do see? “), but also nods to her icon status with lines like “chaos” (which is king) or “you can’t, won’t, stop”. LYNDSEY HAVENS
Beyonce – “CAN I watch you (feat. Pharrell)”
To celebrate the 20th anniversary of her knockout second album, B’Day, Beyonce treated fans to an expanded edition that includes previously-unreleased bonus tracks, and also tacks on “Morning Dew (Donk)” that she surprise dropped on July 4. There are only two new songs: Jay-Z’s “Welcome to Hollywood,” and Pharrell’s “Can I Watch You.” Both feature Jay-Z.
ADELA PRIMA
ADELA, a rising pop star, releases her debut album PRIMA. The focus song is “Nicole Kidman”. It opens with a downtempo beat that resembles Ye’s “Bound 2,” and lingers until the outro brings it back to life. The Slovakian artist’s previous singles included “Red Bottoms,” “Ain’t In LA” and “KGB.” “Red Bottoms,” the Slovakian-born singer’s first Billboard Hot 100 listing in August, was “Ain’t In LA.” Kyle Denis, Billboard’s track ranking, calls PRIMA, “one of most concise and clear-eyed pop debut albums in recent history.” — L.H.
It’s not easy (falling in love) Medium Build
Medium Build’s new album King Of Having Fun is one of the sharpest albums he has ever released. He had little choice after a rock-bottom release, 2024 Country. Billboard reports that the musician is now in a better mental state. “I made my latest album after I realized all my dreams didn’t fulfill me, I burned out and took a break. I got sober and started taking medication. I changed my life. I decided I wanted to live and don’t mind if music was my life.” — L.H.
Ellie Goulding “For You Entertainment
Ellie Goulding’s sixth album I Know Too Much is best summed up by the song “For Your Entertainment”. Goulding’s debut single was released 17 years ago. She has certainly learned much since then. “Entertainment,” her version of Taylor Swift’s “Mirrorball,” is a similar song lyrically. Both songs draw inspiration from performing. Goulding’s honesty is evident in her lyrics: “I will be smiling and posing/My eyes are like waterfalls when you turn away/Can you see just how hard I am trying to give everything?”
Mau P “Just A Little Bit more”
Mau P’s second track for 2026, “Just a Little Bit More,” is an edgy, slinky version of ’90s R&B. The soulful vocals, crisply recorded, give the song that throwback feeling, while the rest is kept fresh and celebratory. (The whistles!) The Dutch artist’s new single “Just A Little Bit more” has been released by Interscope Records just in time for his set at the ARC Music Festival Chicago this weekend. KATIE BAIN
Amelie Lens, Aura
Amelie lens releases Aura, her debut album a decade after she released her first release. Aura is a 13-track album that features the sharp, throttling, and sometimes quite cerebral techno which has made Lens a leading name in the genre. Highlights include the Angele collaboration “run”, and “the energy we” (which was released earlier this year). The shows are a precursor to another big project by Lens. She is due to have her second baby this winter. — K.B.
Malie Donn: The Golden Child
Malie Donn’s debut studio is now available. Billboard’s Caribbean Up and Comer of the month for August broke out with “V6” in 2023. Now he has released a 20-track collection featuring dancehall superstars Byron Messia and Javo Donn as well DJ Frass, Squash and DJ Frass. The Golden Child is a collection of Malie Donn’s best work, from the autobiographical, inspirational title track, to the sensual, appropriately titled “Rated R.” KYLE DENS
Johnny Venus, Nightmares
Johnny Venus has released a preview for his debut studio album. He is one half of the Grammy nominated duo EARTHGANG. Venus’ “Nightmares”, co-produced by Courtlin Jbrae and Poplord is a disarmingly honest song that focuses on the anxiety associated with the fear of losing a beloved love. It’s not soon enough that the 11th Hour arrives! — K.D.
Kenia Os & Xavi, “Malas Manas”
Kenia and Xavi collaborate on “Malas Manas,” a track that fuses Xavi’s musica mexicana requintos with Kenia’s rich pop sound before transitioning to a surprisingly good merengue tune. Both Mexican stars sang about how they live life wild, carefree and without worrying about the opinions of others in “Malas Manas,” a song that translates as bad habits. They repeatedly said “me vale mamá!” or “I don’t really give a crap” (I do not care) throughout the song. JESSICA ROIZ
Low Clika, El Primer Album de Low Clika
Low Clika’s debut album transforms musica mexicana in a space of longing, passion and softboy bravado. The six-member band bends their traditional foundations across 12 tracks without showing any seams. “Wow”, the focus track of the album, captures a disorienting rush when you are completely taken in by a woman, while “La Triste”, strips heartbreak down to a tololoche guitar riff, and nearly-wailing vocals. In “Julieta,” metallic bursts and plucked strings give a Romeo-like feel to a mid-tempo promise. “Asesina,” with corridos kawaii vocalist NXNNI makes explicit fantasies seem unexpectedly tender and exposed. Other tracks, such as “Vudu”, combine accordion cumbia with Latin trap, creating a spellbinding experience. El Primer Album de Low Clika is a collection of music that has a swagger and a lot of emotion. — Isabela Raygoza

Lady Gaga welcomes first baby with fiancé Michael Polansky

Goo Gaga
Page Six confirms that Lady Gaga, her fiancé Michael Polansky and their child have welcomed their first together.
At this point, we do not know any additional details about the child, such as its name, gender, or date of birth.
In recent months the musician and entrepreneur — both 40 — kept their distance from each other, causing online speculation about their relationship.
Reps didn’t respond to our comment request.
Gaga, whose real name is Stefani Joanne Germanotta, had been out of the public eye since August when she took a photo with a Northern California fan.
Mother Monster had been spotted in Los Angeles, at The Grove for an event in May.
Gaga finished her tour The Mayhem Ball in April. The tour lasted nearly nine months, and featured 86 concerts around the globe.
Page Six quoted a Gaga source as saying that she has been “laying low” since her tour concluded. The source said “everything’s good”, and she is a fan of Polansky being by Gaga’s side.
They have an incredible biodome filled with love. It seems like it would be a safe haven for her.
Page Six reported that Gaga and Polansky began dating in 2019. The “Poker Face’ singer, who got engaged in April 2024 has been open about her desire to be a mom one day.
I’m thrilled to be a mother. In an interview she gave to the New York Times, in March 2025, she admitted that “I used to be very apprehensive about it.”
The thing I find most important is not forcing my children into a lifestyle that they don’t want. The more we give our children the space to be themselves, the better.
At the time of her Grammy Award, she admitted that at first, she had been unsure about how a new child would impact on her.
She told The Outlet that she was sometimes at odds with herself as she prepared to become a mother soon. Today is great, but my entire day revolves around me. This is a narcissistic piece of work.
Gaga continued, “How can I be passionate about art and still have time for other activities?”
In an interview with “The Stephen Colbert Show” in October 2025, Gaga said she was prepared to be a mom.
The “Joker 2 ” actress stated, “I’d like to do many different things.” All of these are available. What I want most is to become a mother. “I hope that’s going to be my next big role.”

Jury acquits rapper Lil Durk of all federal charges in 2022 murder-for-hire case

LOS ANGELES, CA (KABC), Friday — A jury acquitted rapper Lil Durk of orchestrating a plot to murder a man for hire that led to the death of a Beverly Center resident four years earlier.
The Los Angeles jury, after three days deliberation, acquitted Grammy Award-winning Rapper in all charges relating to the ambush shootout of 2022.
Prosecutors told the jury that Lil Durk (whose real name is DurkBanks) had set into motion a plot to stalk, hunt, and murder Tyquian, an Atlanta rival rapper who goes by Quando Rondo.
Federal prosecutors claimed that Banks had planned, ordered, and funded the murder of Bowman in revenge for Dayvon “King Von” Bennett’s death, which was committed by one of Banks’ associates, back in 2020.
Prosecutors claim that the plot resulted, by mistake, in the shooting death of Bowman’s cousin Saviay’a, 24, who died in broad daylight, on August 19, 2022.
Banks’ defense team argued in opening remarks that Banks had not been involved with the alleged plan. Banks’ attorneys claimed that Kavon Grant was his former assistant who actually planned the murder.
Banks was one of three defendants who pleaded guilty not to the charges against them. The other two were for murder-for hire and stalking with a deadly weapon.
Banks’ two co-defendants, Deandre Dontrell and David Brian Lindsey, were found guilty of stalking and conspiring to stalk but not of the other charges. Banks was found innocent of all the charges.
Banks, if convicted of the charges against him, could have been sentenced to a lifetime in federal prison.
Banks was awarded a Grammy for “All My Life,” his popular song featuring J. Cole.
After the Lil Durk verdict was announced, a crowd of Lil Durk supporters celebrated in front of the courtroom located downtown Los Angeles on Friday night.

Travis Barker’s Ex-Wife Shanna Moakler Regrets Being His Documentary

Shanna Moakler doesn’t like the documentary about her ex-husband Travis Barker.
One month after Travis Barker Louder Than Fear was released, former pageant winner Nealy shared with her the regret she felt in taking part in this project.
Moakler admitted, “I regret doing it,” on the episode of iHeartRadio’s I Do Part 2 podcast that aired Sept. 10. “I knew that in my heart, I wouldn’t be treated the way I thought I deserved.

Ocean Way canceled due to offshore hurricane: Santa Monica festival called off

This year, the beach is home to another new music festival.
Ocean Way is the Santa Monica beachfront music festival that was canceled two weeks prior to its debut. Two-day festival was scheduled for September 26-27.
Goldenvoice, which promotes Ocean Way and the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival as well, sent out an email Friday from AXS, its ticketing system.
In a press release, organizers stated that “Due the impact of Hurricane Marie on Santa Monica’s first Ocean Way Festival,” the city had canceled it. Storm surf and runoff have caused beach erosion, and it is no longer safe to hold the Ocean Way Festival as planned. Santa Monica will host the Festival in 2027. Plans have already been made.
The promoter announced that tickets ranging from $249 up to $2250 will be reimbursed within 5 to 7 business days.
The “Super El Nino”, a weather pattern caused by warming ocean waters, has severely affected coastal areas in California from Malibu up to Long Beach, Dana Point and beyond.
I am saddened by the fact that weather conditions and poor beach conditions forced Goldenvoice and City to take this hard decision. Santa Monica City Council Member Dan Hall told The Times that the safety of festival goers, residents, and Pier should remain a priority. The rapid erosion near Sandbox is extremely concerning, especially since Hurricane Marie has also caused sinkholes to form in Malibu as well as triggered home evacuations due to the rising waves in Long Beach. The City works quickly to repair the Pico Storm Drain and shoreline in preparation for future weather.
Hall added, “We are all disappointed but I remain hopeful that Ocean Way will return next summer.”
It was planned that the Killers, Olivia Dean and Sublime would headline, as well as Khruangbin and Jack White.
Goldenvoice announced this festival in July with the hope that it will open the Santa Monica waterfront up to public events, concerts and a brand new festival for the Westside of Los Angeles. Santa Monica’s nightlife and retail scenes are struggling in the aftermath of COVID-19. The festival would set an example for concert-going that is centered around public transit.
Nic Adler, Goldenvoice’s concert producer told The Times that “we have to try new things”. There is pressure. “I think that the city is interested, but it takes some risk to try something new.”
In an interview, Santa Monica’s Mayor Caroline Torosis stated that “we cannot continue to do the same thing we have always done in order for Santa Monica shine.” We have to bring people back into our city. “We have long yearned for a large music festival to be held on our beach, to show off the city. The beach is its best asset.”
This is the second big beachside event of this year. After its finances and permits fell through, the inaugural LA Jazz Festival at Dockweiler Beach had to be canceled.
