DAVIDSON COUNTY (N.C.) – The Davidson County Health Department warns of a possible rabies infection linked to a travelling petting zoo that was at a local event this past month.
Four goats from the Community Connections petting zoo, which was held at Breeden Amphitheater on August 1, were found to be rabies-positive.

Anyone who was at the event, and touched a goat baby may have become exposed. They should get in touch with the health department to receive a risk evaluation.
Farm Adventures, a traveling petting-zoo, which organized the event said that the goats had been euthanized in order to stop the spread of the virus. According to the zoo, the goats had been bitten by an animal that resembled a skunk. This led them to be diagnosed with rabies.
The zoo posted on Facebook that “the affected animals, four precious baby goats, were euthanized in order to prevent any further spreading.” We will closely monitor our remaining animals in accordance with the health official’s guidelines.
Molly, Maggie Cow, and Uno were the goats’ names. Farm Adventures has its headquarters in Iredell County.

Officials from the Department of Health said that if a call center was needed on Sunday, additional information would be provided.

The woman, who had been struggling for 2 weeks to use the bathroom and was eventually diagnosed with cancer of the bowels, has not received surgery.
Vicky Mcloughlin was diagnosed in November 2024 with stage 3 bowel cancer.
Chloe (33), her daughter, noticed that Vicky was “not herself”. She later discovered she had been having trouble going to the bathroom for over two weeks.
Vicky’s bleeding was not detected by an initial endoscopy.
Chloe brought her mother to A&E where the staff scanned and found a lump in her neck area.
The biopsy revealed that it was indeed cancer. It had begun in the bowels of this woman and spread to her cervical region.
The tumor’s spread created a hole that required a stoma and tube to be inserted into her kidneys for urine drainage.
It also led to regular infections, and fluid buildup that had to be removed.
Vicky received two rounds of radiotherapy in place of chemotherapy because of her infection.
Chloe begged doctors in London and Solihull Hospital to remove the tumour, but they both refused. They said the surgery was too risky, and could cause Vicky to lose her leg, and have a poorer quality of life.
Doctors expressed “significant concern” in a letter to Vicky about her ability to cope with surgery.
The report continued to state that “the combination of her general fitness, the severity of the cancer and the probability of a good resection margin mean that we do not think that attempting a major pelvic surgery would be in her interests.”
Vicky’s parents disagreed with this decision. They said that her health was already suffering as she had to visit the hospital every other week.
Chloe is a Tamworth dog walker who said, “It took a while to get used to the diagnosis.”
We never imagined that we would be where we are today and in the position we find ourselves.
The only cure for her would be surgery.
Both hospitals in London and Solihull refused.
They said the operation was going to be too serious and that she might lose her leg. Also, they stated her age and said they didn’t know whether she would survive.
They said that she would have a higher quality of life with the surgery, but I don’t think so.
Every other week, she is back at the hospital.
It’s torture.
It’s like a nightmare.
I don’t have any other ideas.”
Because of its size, the hysteroscope did not initially detect the tumor.
Chloe tells Sell Us Your Story that “they were just passing it because it looked as if it was part of her”.
Vicky is fortunate that the cancer has not spread beyond the cervical, bladder and bowel area.
Vicky can develop sepsis from the infection she gets.
Chloe explained: “When it broke through, the tumor caused a hole to form in her bowels as well as the cervical region. Infections were therefore caused.
She had several drains installed to remove the liquid collection.
She’s had 4 in the past two years.
She had surgery to fix a stoma.
The fluid that was collected in the drain at the end of the drain did not drain because it was too dense.
They removed it because it was pressing on her kidneys.
The urine would drain back into the kidneys. She had two tubes inserted through her kidneys to her back.
She doesn’t use the bathroom anymore.
She was so strong, but I’m not sure how she is still alive.
She has sepsis constantly.
Vicky had sepsis at least five times over the past two years.
Vicky is unable to receive any further treatment due to her condition.
University Hospitals Birmingham spokesperson said that they have “great sympathy” for Mrs. Mcloughlin, and her family during this difficult time.
The decision to undergo radical surgery for cancer is a complex one and should not be taken lightly.
The clinical team is concerned with what’s safest and best for the patient.
London North West University Healthcare Trust spokesperson: “The trust cannot comment on the individual circumstances of patients.”

Officials said that the source of this amoeba was still being investigated.
Louisiana Department of Health reported that an 8-year old girl had died after contracting a brain-eating amoeba after likely swimming in Lake Claiborne, in North Louisiana.

Naegleria Fowleri enters the human nose when swimming, diving or swimming in fresh water during summer. There have also been reports that traces of the bacteria can be found in the tap, in poorly maintained pools, or in chlorine wave parks.

ATLANTA – The Georgia Department of Public Health has confirmed that there are four additional measles patients, who were all close relatives of the case of measles confirmed last week.
This outbreak is linked to an Atlanta metro area daycare.
DPH stated that the vaccinations of these children either were not complete or they weren’t completed.
Measles can be spread very easily, so health authorities will try to find the close relatives of those who have been infected.
A spokesperson for the Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning refused to reveal the exact location of the Georgia daycare that was the source of measles.
A spokesperson for the organization said that the agency is “aware” of the measles outbreak reported at a Metro Atlanta childcare center and they are concerned about those affected. DECAL works actively with the Georgia Department of Public Health and the childcare center to provide an appropriate response in accordance with established public health protocols and guidelines. “Our priority is to ensure the safety and health of children and their families as well as the staff.”
On August 28, 2011, 11 cases of measles were confirmed in Georgia. Three members of the same metro Atlanta family tested positive for measles in May.
The number of confirmed cases has increased since 2019. In 2019, there were 19 cases.
The rash is the most obvious symptom of measles, but other symptoms can appear seven to fourteen days after infection: high fever, a runny or stuffy nose, and watery eyes.
It starts on the scalp and then spreads throughout the body.
If you have symptoms, call your healthcare provider. Do not visit the office of your provider without first calling.
DPH encourages parents to immunize their children against measles by using the MMR vaccination, which also prevents rubella.

The New York club Basement, a Berlin-inspired subterranean techno haven in Maspeth Queens, is notorious for refusing entry to visitors who do not pass its “vibe test” and other stringent vetting procedures.
They’ve added another ubiquitous type of clubgoer to the list: those wearing smart glasses.
The techno hotspot posted on Thursday that anyone who brought smart glasses to the event, either wearing them or in their bag, would be asked leave. They could be banned permanently.
