The most anticipated game in history is fast approaching. Netflix had an exclusive look at GTA VI that lasted for six hours before it was released on YouTube. What new details can we gather from an open-world game that’s set to break sales records?
What’s more, it turns out… quite a bit. Rockstar North’s new game mechanics are no surprise, given that Grand Theft Auto VI can take up to 80 hours. The homicidal tip of the iceberg includes key improvements in gunplay, deeper carjacking, an entirely new system of respect, and many updated minigames. We’ll go over all of the GTA VI details you might have missed.
You sure can. You can easily switch between Rockstar’s Bonnie and Clyde’s versions in the sequel, much like you could do with large portions of GTA V. This is evident at 18:41 in the extended version, where the focus switches to Lucia as the two leads attempt to control the chaos during a high-octane car chase.
You will also only be able to choose one of the two criminals in certain missions, forcing you to make a choice or force you into a decision through ‘cutscenes. In the 10:50 extended look trailer, Lucia and Jason receive a job offer from their criminal chum Brian Heder while drinking in a glitzy roof-top bar in downtown Vice City called Effluvia. Lucia and Jason briefly debate who will accept the job before Lucia leaves, leaving Jason to take the role, along with his Pisswasser lager (GTA’s signature brew, if you forgot).
The extended look begins with a “blink, and you will miss it” moment. This occurs at 14 minutes. You can see six Wanted Stars briefly as Jason tries to hold off cop cars, a whirlybird and an escape vehicle with his automatic rifle. It’s significant because GTA V only had five Wanted stars. Los Santos is the only GTA game to have five stars, while all other GTA games add a sixth (the NOOSE-style SWAT forces in GTA IV).
A new Criminal Profiles system is added to the Wanted Level. It’s described in IGN preview as a system that’s similar to Red Dead Redemption 2 Honor, but promises to be nuanced. According to the site, GTA VI does not view crimes equally. For example, retaliating against an angry NPC acting as an aggressor will be treated differently than going on a killing spree.
You can also deescalate situations by using onscreen dialog options. These let you taunt, or even talk nicely (another nod to RDR2). Rob Nelson, Rockstar North’s co-studio director and IGN contributor said that the “consistent action” you take can have a significant impact on how people react to you or how your story unfolds. According to Rob Nelson, feeding Leonida’s critters or throwing garbage in the trash can can improve Lucia and Jason’s Criminal Profile.
Rockstar is being tight-lipped about the changes made to GTA gunplay and its melee system. Fans who are keen-eyed may have noticed a few changes to the series’ trigger-happy battles in GTA VI. You can now switch between two guns on the fly without having to use a weapon’s wheel. This is a major change. This is demonstrated by Lucia as she blasts through an outdoor range in the 18:31 extended preview. The bank robber effortlessly switches between her high-powered pistol and rifle.
If you look closely, there are some subtle changes to GTA V’s combat system. As Jason demonstrates in the trailer, guns are easier to use and faster. Aiming appears more fluid in general. During the trailer, both Ms. Caminos and Mr. Duval are seen slicing through goons with extra-slick style. It’s hard to say how much this has to do with the studio using automatic aim during recorded gameplay footage. You can also now use certain weapons with one hand. Witness Lucia wasting fools at the 09:21 mark as she wields a shotgun in one hand while the other is lugging around a big bag of cash/weapons/narcotics.
Grand Theft Auto is known for its open world mini-games, side activities and other features. Darts! Golf! Pool! Tennis! Triathlons! Los Santos stock market is a great place to blow all of your illegal earnings! Although it is unclear whether Rockstar’s Miami inspired sequel will feature GTA V’s “BAWSAQ”, the game’s side activities are so addictive that you may end up losing hours.
You can see Lucia and Jason enjoying a variety of (sometimes exhilarating or relaxing) activities throughout the trailer. At various points, you can see basketball, dirt bikes, scuba, target practice, stock car races, kayaking, and backyard wrestle with WWE finishing moves. GTA V’s minigames set a high standard for gameplay mechanics. Each of these games will be based on this.
A new minigame makes the carjacking experience a bit more exciting. Jason’s “Slim Jim”, a minigame which requires him to utilize a flat-metal tool and a right stick-timed meter to gain entry into the vehicle, is shown at 06:07 in comparison to Franklin who only had to hit Triangle/Y. Nelson told IGN, too, that you need key cloners to steal fancy cars with electronic locks (it’s clear you won’t be able hot-wire all the vehicles in GTA 6). If you fast-forward to 8 minutes, the hotly stolen cars will now be much easier to drive, thanks to an in-game HUD map where all buildings appear in 3D.
The GTA VI Extended Look Trailer is full of subtle nods to previous Rockstar games. We’ll reel them in quickly. The return of RDR2’s minigame fishing is evident in a scene with our deadly duo, Brian Heder and the water. A scene where Jason causes someone to fall off a bridge because of his reckless driving is a hint that GTA IV will be returning with its random Stranger Encounters. Lucia’s bench-pressing is another nod to GTA San Andreas muscle-building games.
Callbacks continue to appear: RDR2-style masks can be obtained through an item-wheel for robberies and there is a brand new animation where the main pair hide their guns behind their backs as they enter a shop. Red Dead lovers will recognize the icons onscreen that highlight Arthur Morgan and his partner’s condition, their wardrobe, and the vehicle they are driving. GTA VI has binoculars in the game, though snooping at someone through a window using his VR headgear in a sleazy manner is far from Morgan seeing elk in the distance.
GTA V’s hardcore fans will also enjoy some of the features that are returning. A nod is made to the Lifeinvader Social Media of that game, as with the click of R3, an optional Livestream Feed appears as Lucia races away from the police with an innocent hostage hanging in the boot. In-game ads show deer and boars frolicking in Leonida, hinting at the return of Trevor’s hunting missions. In the last moments of the video, Jason is seen emulating Michael De Santa’s killcam and slow-mo shots. GTA VI also appears to have a vitals-targeting system. Red marks indicate deadly blows while yellow markers near joints allow you to disarm your enemies without killing them.

Artists on the festival circuit are navigating the political minefields of the world, with wars still going on in the Middle East and Ukraine and global turbulence increasing.
Wim Wenders, the jury president at the Berlin Film Festival held in February this year, was criticized for telling the media that directors “should stay out of politics”, as he answered questions about Israel and Palestine. Wenders was criticized harshly for his statement. Arundhati Roi, an author, left the festival out of anger. Berlin’s artistic directors, Tricia and Tuttle, were forced to make a statement in response to the storm of media that threatened the festival.
The petition signed by thousands of professionals in the film industry, including Javier Bardem, Mark Ruffalo, and Ken Loach, was aimed at criticizing the growing ideological influence of Vincent Bollore. Bollore is the right-wing billionaire who owns Canal+, France’s largest investor in films and the majority owner of the pay-TV giant. The audience booed both the StudioCanal and Canal+ logos in films that were financed by the two companies.
After Cannes, the political debate veered to a heated discussion over AI’s use in films. Demi Moore, a jury member at Cannes Film Festival, urged film industry professionals to work together and to protect themselves from artificial intelligence. She said that “AI has arrived” and that to combat it would be to lose a war. Her comments created an internet firestorm.
How will Venice be affected by the political turmoil that has roiled Berlin and Cannes?
Even before the festival began, political discourse about Russia and Israel dominated the Lido. The Venice Biennale Foundation (which also organizes the festival) was criticised for the Biennale Art Exhibition in April because it allowed Russia and Israel the opportunity to stage shows at their pavilions. Pietrangelo buttafuoco, the Biennale’s president, is trading blows now with the European Commission. The Commission has withdrawn $2.3 million from the foundation’s funding, saying that European taxpayers money should “protect democratic values” as an EU spokeswoman told Variety.
Buttafuoco refused to give an interview for this article. Buttafuoco criticized Brussels’ double standards during a press conference held in Venice, Italy on July. He said, “They’re pulling $2.3M in funding from Biennale and giving Vladimir Putin $5.9B [in contracts for liquefied gas] within six months.” Buttafuoco claims that the Biennale, by law, is an “area of coexistence and cultural exchange” open to the entire world.
Venice Film Festival artistic director Alberto Barbera agrees. He says that if we received an excellent submission from Russia we would only have considered the quality of film. Barbera describes this year’s Venice selection as “the most politically charged in recent times.”
The festival lineup was announced by Barbera on the 23rd of July. He said that the choices “reflect major contemporary issues, such as wars and Palestine, immigration, climate change, growing social tensions, and shrinking freedom spaces for opponents of different regimes”. Aptly “Ink” will be the opening film, which reveals how British tabloid The Sun fueled Rupert Murdoch’s rise to become a right-wing media mogul. It is produced by Bollore’s StudioCanal. It is produced by StudioCanal, which is controlled by Bollore.
The four-hour movie contains “real revelations” that the audience will take notice of.
There are also the Iranian dramas of Ali Asgari, “A Bit of Light” and “Citizen Osama” by Palestinian director Ahmed Hassouna. In both films, a Palestinian photographer tries to balance his roles of father and reporter while trying capture the horrific realities of Gaza’s war.
The deep crisis in Russia will be a prominent theme in many Venice films. One of them is Julia Loktev’s “My Undesirable Friends Part II –Exile,” which tracks independent Russian journalists as they travel across 13 different countries and navigate forced exile. Laura Poitras’ documentary “They’re Here” is about the ills of the United States in the age Donald Trump. It’s about the protests against the ICE raids which resulted in 4,000 arrested and two deadly shootings.
Israel remains a hot topic on festival circuits. Amos Gitai is an Israeli filmmaker who has explored the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict from both sides. He says that he feels grateful for being included in Venice at a time when Cannes had no Israeli films. He says, “We were very touched when the decision was made immediately and without hesitation.”
Gitai is presenting “The Road to Jericho,” a film that revisits the legacy and assassination of Israeli prime minister Yitzhak Rabin, killed in 1995 after signing the historic Oslo Accords by a Jewish right-wing extremist.
The Venice Competition has added “NAZA”, a hotly debated documentary by “No Other Land’s” directors Yuval Abrah and Rachel Szor, to its lineup. It’s sure to stir up a lot of political debate.
According to the official synopsis, the documentary, shot in the nighttime on Tel Aviv’s rooftops, “shows the detailed systems that Israel uses to kill Palestinian civilians by mass murder” according its official description.
Like most other festivals, Venice’s films don’t directly deal with politics. Jonathan Rutter of Premier Public Relations in the U.K. says that even with these titles there’s a risk “politics could start to overshadow” the film. The media is more focused on soundbites and headlines these days.
Italian distributor Andrea Romero agrees. I Wonder Pictures, the I Wonder Pictures label that he runs in the Lido, will be launching five films at the Lido including “Primetime”, the popular thriller starring Robert Pattinson. He says it’s crucial that actors and directors take political positions when they are competent with the appropriate words. It is civil and responsible for actors or directors to refuse public comments about issues they are not confident about or do not feel comfortable with verbally.
Alexander Payne’s response to the question of his position on the Gaza humanitarian crisis last year was, “Quite honestly, I am not prepared for this question.” “I’m here for judging and to talk about cinema.”
Payne did not receive any criticism at the start of the festival, but when it ended, journalists were furious that the jury had decided to give the Golden Lion award to Jim Jarmusch’s family drama “Father Mother Sister Brother” instead of Kaouther Ben Hania’s Gaza-set film “The Voice of Hind Rajab”, which was expected to win the top prize after receiving a 22-minute long standing ovation. This is the longest stand-up ovation of the entire fest. Payne replied, “As jurors, we cherish both films equally for their own reasons.” Il Sole 24 Ore, an Italian newspaper, criticized him for his “lack of courage” in awarding a Lion to Gaza.
Barbera emerged unscathed from last year’s polemics at the Lido, while Berlin’s Tuttle was on the brink of losing her job by the German Government, who funds 40% of this event. He says that the festival is like other Biennale-style events in being a place for dialogue between creatives and artists, and free from political influence.
Venice will also bring out strong emotions in the AI debate. The Venice film festival is the first to feature a film made with AI. “Be Brave”, a 90 minute portrait of Renzo Roso, the founder of Diesel, was directed by Francesco Carrozzini.
Barbera, when she announced the inclusion of this film in the festival, said: “I would like to invite everyone to consider how AI can be used to open new creative opportunities for filmmakers.” This is a provocative, yet simple statement in light of the current heated AI debate. It’s up to festivals to address this issue, and to go beyond the preconceived notions that dominate today’s conversation.

Min Woo Lee shares what has changed in him on Thursday
Min Woo Lee made 16 regulation greens on Thursday after changing his iron shafts. Lee changed to a heavier iron set to help him slow down and gather his body to swing at a better pace, even with only fewer reps.
Lee stated, “Yeah. Very average two-week period the past two weeks.” It was the most depressing time I have ever had on the golf courses. It’s a real blessing to play good golf and get to the playoffs. The feeling was so difficult. After a while, I started looking in other people’s bags to see what they were using. On Tuesday morning, I changed shafts. It was a big deal for my entire team, who were hesitant to use it. But the results when I practiced with it and hit the shots I had seen out there was great. Min Woo Lee leads the first round with a score of 8-under-62
The Australian was sensational on Thursday at East Lake Golf Club. Min Woo Lee shoots a bogey free 8-under-62 in his opening round to take a 2-stroke lead on Viktor Hovland, who was a few groups ahead of him at the clubhouse. Lee only missed two greens during regulation, but gained more than two shots on the greens. Lee wants to become the second consecutive winner of the Tour Championship/ FedEx Cup without having won all the season.

Rory McIlroy’s start was not what he envisioned

J.J. Spaun withdrew due to shoulder injury
J.J. Spaun, who has a shoulder problem, has withdrawn. The Tour Championship field now only consists of 29 players. Alex Smalley is the first player in red to reach figures
Smalley was one of a few players who arrived at East Lake this year without winning a tournament. He is actually the only one in the field who has not won on the PGA Tour. As the second consecutive player to win his Tour Championship title and the FedEx Cup, he can now follow the lead of reigning FedEx Cup winner Tommy Fleetwood. Smalley sent in a screaming drive into the par-3 second hole for an easy tap-in after making his opening par.

The 2026 Tour Championship begins with rain.
East Lake Golf Club will not be a place where players can easily shake hands this afternoon. Top 30 players of the PGA Tour are welcomed at East Lake by the toughest hole, a 500-yard par 4, which will average nearly 0.50 strokes above par.
It will be harder to play as the rain will come and go throughout the day. It is raining in a way that’s annoying, not hindering the game but bothering you. The PGA Tour implemented preferred lies, which means players can have the ball in their hand on all 18 holes.

Rockstar Games released new details about Grand Theft Auto 6: An Extended Look, which premieres on Netflix today.
Rob Nelson, Rockstar North’s co-studio director and head of Rockstar North development, revealed in a recent interview with Dazed dozens of small and large facts about the new game.

Stevie Nicks reflected on her collaborations with Dolly Parton, who died Tuesday.
Nicks shared a picture of the letter that she had written on Facebook, along with a photograph of her and Parton wearing red sparkling earrings and a top embellished in the same way. Nicks wrote about their time together as they recorded “What Rock and Roll Has Ever Done for You” on Parton’s album 2023 Rockstar. This duet was originally composed for Fleetwood Mac and is the ninth track of the album.
Nicks described it as the best week of her life, adding that “a week with Dolly” was “like a masterclass for me”. She “tried being a sponge”, and she tried to “learn all I could from her”. Learning from Parton was easy because “she is a great teacher,” Nicks added.
Nicks said, “When she was there, she wasn’t even close to finishing collecting more rock and roll songs she wanted to perform.”
