Fox Corp to acquire streaming giant Roku in $22 billion blockbuster deal

Fox Corp. is buying streaming giant Roku in a blockbuster deal valued at roughly $22 billion — creating a media powerhouse that the companies say will become the third-largest player in US television by share of viewing.
The acquisition, first reported by the Wall Street Journal, brings together Fox’s portfolio of live sports, news and entertainment programming with Roku’s streaming platform and connected-TV operating system, which reaches more than 100 million households worldwide.
Fox CEO Lachlan Murdoch touted the merger as a transformational move as competition for streaming audiences intensifies.
The deal combines “the most valuable live content portfolio in video consumption with the preeminent streaming platform,” Murdoch told investors on a conference call on Monday.
Fox Corp is sister company to The Post’s corporate parent News Corp.

Knicks stars Jalen Brunson, Karl Anthony Towns, OG Anunoby talk NBA Championship win: ‘Once in a lifetime event’
The Knicks have returned to New York from San Antonio, where their Game 5 victory on Saturday won them their first NBA Championship in 53 years.
“I don’t think it’s sunk in yet,” said Finals MVP Jalen Brunson, one of the starting five stars of the team — along with Karl Anthony Towns, OG Anunoby, Mikal Bridges and Josh Hart — who joined “Good Morning America” on Monday morning.
Brunson said he placed a towel over his head after the winning moment to let it all out because he knew “that face was probably going to look crazy on TV.”
“It was honestly, like a lifetime — that’s what it felt like,” he said of the buildup to the winning moment. “The best part about it is knowing that these guys had my back night in and night out — made that moment ten times more special.”
Towns said the win shared with dozens of former Knicks and NBA legends, was “a culmination of work coming together at the right moment, at the right time.”
“Not only the alumni but [for] the fans, this was healing,” Towns said of the 27-year gap since the last Finals run in 1999. “This is really a once-in-a-lifetime event, you’re watching in New York sports history.”
“You’re talking about a whole generation that’s passed being told about the stories of how great the Knicks are, but not actually seeing that trophy be raised,” Towns continued. “You get to see history show itself and be able to see it with your own eyes that the Knicks are, again, world champions.”
Towns said Knicks head coach Mike Brown, in his first season with the franchise, has “been great” at bringing the veteran team together and trusting their experience and understanding their “intellectual capital.”
“What he’s been awesome at doing too is listening to us and just hearing us out and adjusting the game plan as needed,” Towns said. “After Game 3, his ability to adjust our team offensively and defensively to bring out the best of us, speaks volumes to him as a coach working on the fly and also just hearing his players out.”
Rick Brunson, an assistant coach for the Knicks and the father of the star point guard, played for eight NBA teams, including the Knicks, but never won the Larry O’Brien Championship Trophy.
“It’s really special to be able to — share that moment with him,” Jalen Brunson told “GMA,” adding that “him being a journeyman in the NBA, I never really got to be around him consistently,” so the last four years has been the most consistent “I’ve been able to be around my dad — made the moment 10 times more special.”
Anunoby had a career-defining tip-in off a missed shot from Brunson to win Game 4 107-106 in the last seconds, which Brown called the most iconic shot in the history of New York basketball, but the star forward said he couldn’t be too excited or dwell on it because he “had to prepare” for the next game.
“I was trying to dunk it — but couldn’t,” Anunoby said, “so I just tried to, you know, touch it and make the shot.”
Towns was raised in New Jersey by his father, Karl Sr., and mother, Jackie, who died from complications with COVID-19 in 2020, and said her love has stayed with him on and off the court.
“To be raised by a strong woman is such an honor. And to understand the value of women in my life and in the world — comes from her,” he said. “Her impact in my life — can’t be outmatched and her ability to show me the word love at its purest sense is the most important thing I’ve ever seen.”
Towns hailed another important woman, his fiancee Jordyn Woods, who went viral for a good-luck inducing clutch.
“That bag is undoubtedly, probably one of the greatest articles of clothing that New York has ever seen,” Towns said. “It’s had a run for sure, undefeated in the playoffs — New York has a lot to thank her for.”

Big 12 files legal complaint against Texas Tech, AG Ken Paxton amid Brendan Sorsby saga
The Brendan Sorsby saga has taken another dramatic turn. According to Yahoo Sports’ Ross Dellenger, the Big 12 filed a 47-page complaint Monday against Texas Tech, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton and multiple university officials, all in an effort to preserve the conference’s authority to sanction member institutions.
The filing was submitted in the Northern District of Texas. It seeks declaratory judgment and a preliminary injunction that would allow the Big 12 to enforce its bylaws regarding Texas Tech’s intention to play the quarterback during the 2026 season.

Notably, the conference is not seeking financial damages and is not attempting to overturn the Texas court ruling that granted Sorsby eligibility. Instead, the Big 12 is asking a federal judge to allow the league to discipline Texas Tech without interference from Paxton’s office.
According to Dellenger, the lawsuit was triggered in part by a letter sent by Paxton last week. The attorney general warned the conference that sanctions against Texas Tech could constitute antitrust violations and threatened potential legal action.
The complaint also revealed that Big 12 officials, presidents and athletic directors have urged Texas Tech not to play Sorsby, though the school has reportedly refused.
“If a vote were to occur however,” the filing states, via Dellenger, “some of the potential sanctions the Board could consider under the bylaws include monetary sanctions and/or a ban on competing in the Big 12 Championship Game.”
Conference leaders were scheduled to meet Monday afternoon. However, a decision on sanctions is still not expected immediately.
“There is considerable concern” that allowing Sorsby to compete could create “reputational harm and irreparable damage to public and member trust in the integrity of league competitions,” according to the filing.
“In an industry that rarely agrees on anything, there is finally an issue that everyone seems to agree on (other than TTU and the Attorney General): universities should not field players who have bet on their own team’s games in college athletics,” the complaint states.
Moreover, Sorsby was ruled permanently ineligible by the NCAA after admitting to wagering on Indiana football games during his time with the Hoosiers. Court documents indicate he made roughly $90,000 in impermissible wagers throughout his college career and even continued betting after transferring to Texas Tech.
After the NCAA launched its investigation, Sorsby entered treatment for gambling addiction and anxiety. A Texas judge later granted him an injunction allowing him to compete during the 2026 season.
The Big 12’s complaint lists Texas Tech, the Texas Tech University System, Chancellor Brandon Creighton, President Lawrence Schovanec, athletic director Kirby Hocutt and Paxton as defendants.
“The threat that gambling poses to the integrity of athletic competition has been understood, and has been borne out by scandal, for over a century,” the complaint reads. “That history informs the Conference’s values and governance practices and explains why these values are non-negotiable.”
With the NCAA appeal still pending and the Big 12 now taking legal action against one of its own members, the Sorsby case continues to reshape the landscape of college athletics. Time will tell what the endgame is, but it doesn’t seem to be going away any time soon.

Fox to buy Roku for $22 billion
Fox Corp. has reached an agreement to acquire Roku for roughly $22 billion, marking another chapter in media consolidation as the industry grapples with changing dynamics and mounting challenges.
On Monday Fox announced it would acquire Roku for $160 per share in a cash and stock transaction. Fox plans to fund the cash portion of the deal with a combination of cash on hand and new debt. The company said it obtained a $12 billion loan for the transaction.
Fox’s stock was trading down about 13% in premarket trading, while Roku was up about 2%.
The combination will bring together Fox’s news and sports channels, as well as its free ad-supported streamer Tubi with Roku, the maker of streaming devices and also the home of The Roku Channel, a service similar to Tubi.
On Monday, Fox CEO Lachlan Murdoch called it a “defining moment” for the company.
The proposed acquisition comes about seven years after Fox’s last major deal, when it shed its entertainment assets in a $71 billion deal with Disney . Since then, Fox’s portfolio has primarily been made up of its TV channels, namely broadcast network Fox, which has been airing the FIFA World Cup since last week, and Fox News Channel on cable.
In 2020 Fox acquired Tubi for $440 million. That service had long been its answer to the streaming wars, prior to the announcement of Fox One, its direct-to-consumer option that launched last year.
On a Monday call with investors, Murdoch noted that Fox was both “an early investor in Roku and a longtime commercial partner.”
He added that since 2019 Fox has “reoriented” the company, centering it around live news and sports, and emphasized the focus on driving advertising revenue.
Advertising has taken a renewed importance for media companies as they look to build up streaming platforms and lean on live sports and events, which are capturing the biggest audiences.
Fox said Monday it expects to see approximately $400 million in run-rate cost synergies from the deal with additional revenue upside. After the acquisition closes, existing Fox shareholders would own roughly 73% of the combined company and Roku shareholders would own about 27%.
The deal, which has already been approved by the boards of directors of both companies, is expected to close in the first half of 2027.

Nico Rosberg hails ‘legendary moment of F1’ as Lewis Hamilton ‘climbs to greatness again’ with maiden Ferrari win
Nico Rosberg has described Lewis Hamilton’s breakthrough Ferrari triumph at the Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix as “a legendary moment” for the sport – suggesting that his former team mate has “climbed to greatness again”.
Hamilton made a blockbuster switch to Ferrari in 2025 after a long association with Mercedes, where he partnered Rosberg for several years, but the seven-time World Champion’s first season in red proved to be one of his most challenging.
Aside from a Sprint victory in China, Hamilton struggled to make an impression across the campaign, which passed without a Grand Prix podium finish, and included a run of self-critical comments after several Q1 exits and point-less races.
However, following a reset over the winter, Ferrari “moving mountains” to make him feel more comfortable, and the introduction of all-new regulations for 2026, Hamilton appears to have rediscovered the form that previously took him to so many titles.
Off the back of P2 finishes in Canada and Monaco, Hamilton once again impressed in Barcelona, where he stormed to the front row of the grid with a stunning final lap in Q3, and converted it into victory via an aggressive three-stop strategy against his two-stopping Mercedes rivals.
Speaking to F1.com in the paddock as the dust settled on the result, and after he interviewed Hamilton in Parc Ferme, Rosberg took a moment to reflect on what the world of F1 had witnessed – and what his ex-colleague had achieved.
“We’ve witnessed a legendary moment of F1,” said Rosberg. “It’s historic for him, and it’s a historic moment.
“I think the whole of the F1 world, everybody appreciates this moment. There’s nobody who does not appreciate this moment.
“Also, he went through such an extremely tough start to the time at Ferrari. It’s amazing how he’s really managed to turn it around and climb to his greatness once again, you know. It’s awesome to witness.
“We all kind of want this to continue now, because we want him to take on the fight to the Mercedes guys. That would be awesome. The car is fast, so let’s see if they can make it work.”
Hamilton sat 66 points behind championship leader Kimi Antonelli heading into the weekend, but his victory – combined with the Italian’s late retirement – means that deficit has been slashed to 41.
Asked if Hamilton and Ferrari can dream of more as the 2026 season continues, with the Briton looking for an eighth title, and the team aiming to end a championship drought stretching back to 2008, Rosberg was clear in his response.
“They can, yeah,” Rosberg said. “They should, and they can.”
Speaking separately on Sky Sports F1’s coverage, Rosberg argued that the result will only add fuel to the fire for Hamilton, with Ferrari’s significant Barcelona upgrade package also appearing to pay off.
“You get positive results, you get more motivated, you get happier, you work harder,” he commented.
“This is going to propel him even higher, together with his team. It’s an incredible momentum over there. All these ducks are falling into place at the moment, and that’s what it takes to win races in F1.
“They improved the car, they brought a lot of upgrades here this weekend – eight different parts of the car are new – and he is mentally in an awesome place.
“He’s beating his team mate [Charles Leclerc], the others are struggling a little bit with different things, so it’s all coming together, which is amazing.”

Brazil woman dies after rope-jumping instructors fail to attach cord
A woman has died in what appears to be a tragic extreme sports accident in Brazil.
Three men have been arrested over the incident, in which instructors failed to attach a rope to her before helping her jump from a bridge in São Paulo state.
Footage went viral over the weekend of Maria Eduarda Rodrigues de Freitas being carried to the edge of the abandoned bridge before being let go on Saturday. She fell 40m (130ft) and emergency services pronounced her dead at the scene.
Police are now investigating whether the men are culpable of homicide with eventual intent – when someone does not have the direct intention but assumes the risk of killing – local news site Globo reports.
The incident happened in Ponte do Esqueleto, on the border of Limeira and Cordeirópolis, in the interior of São Paulo, Brazil.
In the footage posted on social media, two men in white helmets can be seen holding Rodrigues de Freitas, 21, by her arms while a third is behind holding her feet.
When she is cast off the bridge, an onlooker screams at the instructors to attach her cord.
The three men were wearing harnesses that appear to be attached to a security rope.
It uses low-stretch climbing ropes that convert the fall into a horizontal, pendulum swing, while bungee jumping uses an elastic rubber cord that creates a vertical, bouncing effect.
The bridge, called “Skeleton Bridge” has been abandoned for years and falls under responsibility of the federal government. Brazil’s Secretariat of Federal Assets (SPU) said it was “available to assist the authorities in the investigations”.
The City Hall of Limeira (SP) announced it would sue the federal government for failing to adequately manage the bridge.
It said it “had been adopting administrative measures and demanding action from the federal agencies responsible for the area”.
