LOS ANGELES, CA (KABC), Verizon reports that the phone service of thousands of its customers has been disrupted after vandals damaged multiple fiber cables.
Wireless carrier says the vandalism has caused service disruptions for customers in Southern California.
Verizon still hasn’t specified where exactly the cable was cut, or how many affected customers. New York, Philadelphia and other cities also experienced outages.
On Sunday, some Eyewitness News journalists reported that their Verizon phones showed only SOS satellite emergency service.
Verizon has said that repairs have begun and expects to restore service at least by Sunday night.
The theft of networks and the vandalism of them are a threat to our safety and security. This is not a simple crime; it’s a dangerous interruption that cuts off lifelines to our public safety and first responder officials, who depend on continuous connectivity.
Eyewitness News interviewed a group of customers who were desperate to get out the front door at Verizon in North Hollywood. Customers continued to show up even after the store had closed.
I’m not happy because we’re paying a lot of money every month. They say they don’t know why there is no network. It’s out since the morning. No one or nothing can be reached. “My phone has been dead for the whole day,” Jovan Jordan said. I walked into the closest store and was told that they couldn’t do anything. The door was closed in front of us. Then they charge us for x dollars a month and do this. It’s unprofessional, unacceptable.”
As of Saturday, Verizon users in all parts of the United States reported similar service problems. Verizon has confirmed that the problem is resolved.

Taylor Farms has voluntarily recalled several products that contain fresh jalapenos and have been associated with an outbreak of salmonella in multiple states.
In a website statement, Taylor Farms said that the recalled products included spicy guacamole and mango pico-de-gallo as well as taco dip, and over a dozen unbranded or Taylor Farms products. The products were sold in 26 states at major retailers, including Whole Foods and Trader Joe’s. Hannaford, Kroger’s and Kroger’s. They have a “Best If Used Before” date that extends up to August 16, 2026.
Taylor Farms announced that it would recall finished products with jalapenos, which were previously voluntarily recalled earlier in the month by Coast Citrus Distributors.
Taylor Farms stated that it “no long sources products from this particular farmer” and the company is not “aware of any illnesses reported linked to their products containing Jalapenos.”
Salmonella in the United States appears to have been caused by imported fresh jalapenos traced to a Mexican grower.
The C.D.C. reported that at least 345 individuals in more than 20 states were sickened by the same salmonella strain, which has been associated with jalapenos. In a press release, the C.D.C. said. The statement said that no fatalities have been linked to this outbreak.
The C.D.C. reports that most salmonella infections result in diarrhea, fever, and stomach cramps between six hours and six days following exposure to the bacteria.
Taylor Farms is one of America’s leading producers of fresh leafy vegetables and greens. The company was linked to an outbreak of severe diarrhea-causing cyclosporiasis in the United States.
Most vulnerable are infants, elderly adults, pregnant women and immunocompromised people.
Health officials in Michigan announced the two first deaths related to the outbreak on Monday. According to the Michigan Health Department, both of those who died suffered from serious underlying medical conditions.

The Corvette line-up has grown significantly in the five years since C8 Chevrolet Corvettes first hit the roads. The C8 model family now includes special editions like the Corvette Z06 with its naturally aspirated engine, the Corvette E-Ray powered by electricity, and even the 1,250-hp Corvette ZR1X. The original C8 Corvette Stingray is often overshadowed by the newer, faster Corvettes.

The 2025 Ioniq 5 N, which is a totally different kind of car, has a high MSRP (over $60,000) that’s very similar to the Stingray base price, around low $70,000. The Ioniq 5 N also got a price reduction for 2026. This makes it even more appealing to enthusiasts looking for a practical and fast daily driver.
It wasn’t long ago that pickup trucks were not considered to be family cars. They also couldn’t compete with Corvettes on the drag strip. The Rivian R1T is a very interesting vehicle. The R1T may not be a drag strip champion, but it is still a fast pickup.
According to Car and Driver’s testing, in its triple motor trim the Rivian R1T edges the C8 Stingray by a few seconds in both the 0-60 time and the quarter mile times. This is for a family-friendly truck that you can also take off road.
You don’t need an open bed pickup as a family vehicle? The Rivian R1S is a similar vehicle, but in an SUV-style body. We found that both Rivian second-generation quad-motor electric vehicles are capable and feel as if they defy the laws of physics.
Many four-door, battery-electric cars can outperform a C8 Corvette on the drag strip. If you want a four-door internal combustion car that can beat the modern Corvette then your options are limited. The BMW M3 Competition xDrive is one of the very few vehicles that are capable of doing it right out of the gate.
BMW claims the twin-turbocharged all-wheel drive super sedan can do 0-60 seconds in just 3.4 second, but real-world tests have shown that it is much faster. Car and Driver ran a 0-60 time of 2.8 seconds, matching the C8 Stingray. The Corvette is still in the lead at the quarter mile, but the BMW has an ET of just 11 seconds, while 124 mph.
The M3 Competition xDrive, while not as practical as a family SUV, is a supercar that has internal combustion engines and four doors. The M3 starts at just over $90,000. It is therefore more expensive than the base Corvette Stingray. However, you can upgrade the Corvette to be almost as costly as the BMW. The added functionality of the BMW is unmatched by the Corvette.
It may seem odd that Porsche, a brand known for its fire-breathing race cars, has developed an electric SUV as the most powerful vehicle in production. The new Porsche Cayenne electric SUV is impressive in all versions, but its top Cayenne turbo Electric model takes it to a whole other level. The electric SUV’s numbers are impressive, despite its confusing name. It has 1,139 horsepower and 1,106 pounds-feet of torque.
It’s true that the Porsche weighs almost 6,000 pounds but this mass does not slow it down on the drag strip. The SUV is the fastest Car and Driver ever tested, and it will be available in mid-2026. It can reach 60 mph in just 2.1 seconds and run the quarter mile in only 9.5 seconds. It’s enough to not only beat but also leave a C8 Corvette Stingray in the dust. The Cayenne turbo’s performance is actually close to the Corvette ZR1 with its 1,064 hp.
Would there be many people who would directly compare any C8 Corvette variant to a Cayenne Electric Vehicle (EV) priced at $165,000? Most likely not. Every car has a different purpose and offers a different driving experience. The Porsche still shows how far the performance car has evolved.
The Tesla Model 3 performance is the fastest four-door car on the market. It can even outrun the C8 Corvette in drag racing. With a starting price tag of around $55,000, the Model 3 Performance isn’t substantially cheaper than a C8 Stingray and offers an acceleration-per-dollar ratio unmatched by anything else on the market.
The Model 3 Performance isn’t going to blow away the C8 Corvette Stingray, but the Chevy will still be faster. The Model 3 Performance was able to achieve a time from 0-60 of just 2.8 seconds, which is the same as the Corvette. However, the Tesla begins to take off at higher speeds and runs the quarter-mile in only 11 seconds at 125mph.
The silent Tesla won’t deliver the same driving experience or soundtrack as a V8 Corvette. But what it can do for its price is still impressive. You’ll be able blend in with traffic easily if you have a Model 3, which is a plus or minus depending on your needs.

Crown Heights residents are asking questions about housing in their neighborhood after learning of a major development that is planned at the intersection of East New York Avenue and Troy Avenue.
Developer Yonah Grunhut, of Grun Group LLC, has filed permits for a mixed-use, 13-story building with 94 units at 767 East New York Avenue.
This project will replace the long-standing auto service and repair shop 770 Auto with a much larger commercial and residential building on the corner.
The filings indicate that the apartments proposed would have an average of approximately 561 square foot per unit. This figure has attracted attention from a community where growing families seek larger apartments.
Members of the Williamsburg community who are familiar with this transaction report that the Lubavitch owner of the ODA adjacent building sold the property to Satmar, a Williamsburg developer. The transaction included unused rights to develop the adjacent property, which allowed for an even larger project.
Residents have been prompted to discuss whether the plans are serving Crown Heights’ needs adequately.
Some people have pointed out Williamsburg and questioned whether such a large project, especially one that consists largely of small apartments, will be scrutinized more by the community there.
It isn’t the development that concerns us. Crown Heights desperately needs more housing. New construction could help to address this shortage. Residents say that adding more units will not solve the housing shortage if the apartments do not suit the needs of the struggling families in the area.
The development of 767 East New York Avenue, which combines a number of smaller commercial buildings with a larger housing project in Crown Heights, raises a critical question that will likely become even more important in the coming years: For whom is this new housing being constructed?
The growth of the neighborhood is inevitable. It is a question of whether the growth can meet the demands of the existing community.

According to audio from air traffic control, an Alaska Airlines flight that was preparing to leave Miami International Airport to Seattle on Sunday night reported a disturbance with threats coming from passengers. Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office Airport District Deputies responded at one of Miami International Airport’s gates.
Deputies temporarily removed passengers from the plane while they investigated.
Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office reports that the investigation found no evidence of a credible threat.
Two individuals were booked on another flight. After the aircraft had been cleared and passengers allowed to board again, flight operations continued as usual.
Alaska Airlines Flight 305 was involved in the incident.
A pilot is heard in audio communications between an aircraft and the ground controller telling them that they have set the parking brake and the plane has stopped because there was a “customer disruption.”
The pilot stated in the recorded message that there was a disturbance at the moment with customers making threats. We want to enter a lockdown procedure.
Pilot also informed controllers that the engine of aircraft was shutting down.
ATCapp’s post, a tracking air traffic service which published the audio recording of the incident reported that several passengers allegedly had threatened flight attendants, and the plane was returning to its gate in order to meet with law enforcement.
CBS News Miami does not confirm the details of the threat.
