Karmelo’s murder case opens with conflicting depictions of a fatal stab
As the trial for a Texas teenager accused in stabbing another high schooler during a track event got underway, the prosecution and defense presented sharply divergent versions of events that led to Austin Metcalf’s death. Subscribe to this story to enjoy it ad free

Karmelo Antony, a 19-year-old man, was arrested in January 2010 and charged with the stabbing of Metcalf, during an altercation that occurred at a Frisco high school track meet, a sprawling Dallas suburb. He has not pleaded guilty. Mike Howard, Anthony’s lawyer, claimed that Anthony acted out of self-defense in response to “fear and confusion.”
After Karmelo used the knife to defend himself, he fled. He didn’t stab again. He dropped his knife. Howard stated that he did not stab anyone else. The case is gaining national attention due to an explosive online discussion along racial divisions. Metcalf, who was white, is Black. Anthony is Black. Bill Wirskye, Texas prosecutor, said: “This case is not about race.” This case is not a self-defense. Unjustified murder — That’s why we were here this morning. The group claimed that “the prosecution used its last strikes to remove qualified Black jury members from the pool of jurors, raising serious questions about fairness and justice.” “We will not stay silent. We respect this court. But we won’t remain silent.”
A video expert was the first witness in the trial. He analyzed security footage that showed Anthony and Metcalf fighting before Anthony fled to the stadium exit. Robert Starr was Frisco Memorial High School’s assistant football and track coach. Austin Metcalf. Meghan Metcalf. Jeff Metcalf stated that his son died when a student with a blade got angry when told he had been in the wrong place. Austin Metcalf, according to his dad, was stabbed and died in the twin brother’s hands. Hunter Metcalf’s twin brother was not present in court on Thursday. He said that they were identical twins and that his brother held him and tried to stop the bleeding. The twin died in his brother’s arms. “I ran up and saw him on the gurney and I could tell – they said he was not breathing. I could see blood everywhere and where the wound was. I was worried, so I found his brother and we went to the hospital. We prayed and God had a plan. I don’t understand why, but they were unable to save him. Austin Metcalf’s last words, revealed Thursday during the trial, were “murder”. Wirskye reported that Metcalf said “I have been stabbed.” His father stated that his son had a 4.0 grade point average, was the team MVP, and was on track to attend college. Jeff Metcalf stated that “he was on the right path.” He was beloved by many. Anthony was charged as a first-degree killer in June 2025.
At the time, Collin County district attorney Greg Willis stated that “we know this case has touched a nerve — both here in Collin County as well as beyond.” “That’s understandable. It’s understandable. When this kind of thing hpens at a school function, it really shakes the people. Why throw the knife? Wirskye stated that someone who is afraid would not do such a thing. In Texas, 17 year olds are considered to be adults. Anthony could be sentenced to five years up to life imprisonment in the state prison system if he is found guilty.
Anthony has been placed under house arrest since he posted a $250,000 bail for his release. Next Generation Action Network, which is NBC Dallas Fort Worth’s parent company, said that Anthony was allowed to complete high school. He had a 3.7 GPA. It said, “We’re proud to announce that Karmelo will receive his high-school diploma and that his academic achievement will not be interrupted.” NGAN confirmed to NBC Dallas Fort Worth, that Anthony had been denied the opportunity to participate in graduation ceremonies. Anthony’s supporters have started a
that has already raised more than $600,000 to pay for Anthony’s legal fees and move costs.

The lawsuit claims that a Florida mother found moving parasites inside a can SpaghettiOs her daughter shared. Subscribe to this story to enjoy it ad free

According to the complaint filed at the U.S. District Court of the Southern District of Florida by Mary Hubbard, she purchased Campbell’s SpaghettiOs on June 20, 2024, from a Walmart Supercenter located in Okeechobee in Florida. The lawsuit stated that Hubbard had opened the can in order to serve the soup to her and her child. Hubbard, after consuming some of the soup, noticed that “there peared to be worms, parasites, and/or worm-like creatures moving in the product,” the complaint says. It also states that the contents clearly depict “worm-like animals moving within the food.” Hubbard says that the alleged contamination caused severe health effects. She claims to have suffered permanent and serious injuries including gastroenteritis, a parasitic disease, and other conditions. Hubbard continues to seek medical attention for her conditions. The daughter’s age was not given, but she allegedly had abdominal pain, nausea and vomiting, diarrhea, and a parasitic disease that required prescription medications. The lawsuit claims that Walmart and Campbell’s did not inspect or process their canned goods properly, and then continued to distribute them. The lawsuit alleges the companies did not maintain adequate safety measures in order to prevent parasitic contamination either during production or when the product was displayed on the retail shelves. The two are seeking $75,000 from Campbell’s, Walmart and claiming that the companies violated federal food safety laws and were negligent. Walmart issued a statement to NBC News, saying that “the health and safety our customers are a priority.” The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service has issued recalls for a variety of soup and bowl products in ril 2025 due to possible foreign material contamination. The agency stated that four Campbell’s soups may have been contaminated by foreign material, specifically wood in cilantro, an FDA-regulated food ingredient. Campbell’s Soup Company stated that they do not comment on litigation pending, but believe these claims are without merit and intend to vigorously fight them.

Sources claim that Donald Trump has no problem with the new chief of intel. He is a partisan who is well-liked by the president. Subscribe to read the story without ads
Get access to unlimited adfree articles and exclusive content. Bill Pulte is the chief housing regulator for the Trump administration and will take over the role of acting director of National Intelligence by the end this month. He has Trump’s ear and shares his urgency. Pulte is a frequent visitor to the White House as well as Trump’s Florida properties, according to the partisan warrior named sources.
One person said, “Trump always has Pulte with him and is always saying that we have to hurry up in order to accomplish things.” Pulte is expected to keep his role as the Federal Housing Finance Agency’s head. However, he has no prior experience with intelligence, national security or the military. He will be in charge of some of the most powerful and sophisticated intelligence agencies around the world, with a wide range of surveillance tools and an international network of spies.
Former Intelligence Officers who worked in Republican and Democratic Administrations are worried that Pulte could have unlimited access to an arsenal of intelligence which they fear will be used by Pulte to target political rivals or justify a possible federal oversight over elections, as Trump requested. By choosing someone without a background in national security or intelligence, they say Trump is sending a message to those working at spy agencies that he does not value them. The White House defended Trump’s selection despite the skeptics in Congress from both parties, who cited Trump’s lack of relevant work experience and partisan record. Davis Ingle said, in a White House statement, that “the President selects the most talented and best-qualified people to serve in his cabinet.” This Administration has been able to achieve record success for the American people because of this. Bill Pulte was a good choice and will do a wonderful job for the American People. Steve Bannon, a former adviser to Trump who helped she his 2016 campaign and was in the first administration of Trump, said on NBC News that Pulte “gets things done” and has ideas for the president. Bannon told NBC News that Pulte has a mandate to continue where Tulsi Gabard left off in her role as director of national intelligence. Her husband was diagnosed as having cancer. Bannon stated that he would focus on foreign threats to U.S. Elections, investigate the so-called Deep State, coordinate intelligence work, and offer alternatives to what the CIA is saying. Bannon stated that “he’s going after everything with an increased urgency.”
Despite the Constitution giving states the power to hold elections in certain states, Trump has because, according to him, local authorities are not trustworthy. Democrats stole the presidential election of 2020, despite claims by members of his Cabinet that there was not widespread voter fraud. Democratic lawmakers, civil rights activists and other groups were concerned that Trump’s administration could use intelligence agencies as a way to accuse foreign countries of threatening elections. This would provide a possible rationale for Federal interference. These fears were confirmed after the National Intelligence Director’s Office examined voting machines in Puerto Rico, and after Gabbard received
ballots for the 2020 Georgia election.
According to a former senior intelligence official, Pulte is likely to concentrate on the foreign threats that have been made against previous and current U.S. election results. This could be a way to question the security of voting in certain crucial states. “I bet it’s close to his top agenda,” said the former official. Pulte, who hasn’t publicly commented, has expressed online support for the White House, vice president JD Vance, and other administration officials. Pulte, who will be overseeing a network of 18 intelligence agencies, including the CIA, the National Security Agency and others, was created in the wake of 9/11 to consolidate information and improve sharing. Roger Stone, a long-time Trump ally, said that Bill Pulte would be a director of the ODNI in the same mold as Gabbard. He is committed to releasing truths and loyal to the President. Pulte made allegations of mortgage fraud against the New York Attorney General, Sen. Adam Schiff D-Calif. and former Rep. John Sipher, a retired CIA agent, said Pulte’s past “suggests he is meant to be running a detective agency” for the president by using the directorate of national intelligence. Sipher stated that someone with a political agenda, who has access to vast amounts of intelligence, could decide to selectively declassify certain documents in order to support a false narrative or conspiracy theories, while withholding information which might provide context or caveats. He said that because the intelligence community’s information is classified, they have no recourse to question or challenge their decisions. Trump, in an
, described Pulte’s as “very talent” and stated that he will accelerate the declassification intelligence. However, he didn’t elaborate. Trump
Pulte’s oversight of Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac and other government-sponsored entities created by Congress for the support of the mortgage market. Trump said that Pulte had “deep experience in managing the most sensitive issues in America,” Trump stated online. Mark Warner, Virginia’s top Democrat in the Intelligence Committee warned that Pulte would use his position to target Trump’s enemies. This is especially true ahead of November’s midterm elections. Warner stated that Pulte could do a lot with the information he receives from intelligence agencies. “Our intelligence has always been bipartisan. Will we finally trigger the gag reflex? I hope.”
Pulte was only named acting director, and has not yet been nominated as permanent director. This would require confirmation from the Senate. Many Republicans said that Pulte would have a tough time getting proval from the Senate. John Cornyn (R-Texas) said: “I don’t see any evidence of qualifications for this job.” Bill Cassidy of Louisiana told NBC News that Pulte did not seem qualified. Pulte, as a newcomer to the national-security realm, could make it difficult for some members of Congress to support the law renewal. Tillis, speaking to NBC News, said that this nomination was made at the worst possible time. Tillis is particularly concerned about the reauthorization Section 702 which allows spy agencies collect overseas electronic communication without warrants. This surveillance tool allows intelligence services to intercept communications between U.S. citizens and foreign targets. U.S. officials claim that the authority they have is vital to prevent terrorist acts and track foreign enemies. Civil liberties activists say that it violates the privacy rights.

Staff failed to maintain safe, sanitary conditions. The report states that staff members collected the water by using Styrofoam cups and nkins. The scrutiny of , which house over 60,000 detainees, is growing. Markwayne Mullin, Homeland Security Secretary on Wednesday, defended the detention standards of his agency at Citol Hill in response to complaints regarding ICE’s 11001010. This center has been the scene of many protests. Rep. Tim Kennedy (D-N.Y.) accused Mullin, of leaving detainees with no food or medical attention. Mullin denied the allegations. “You can say anything you want but don’t blame me for something that isn’t accurate,” he stated. The inspector general issued nine recommendations ranging from the proper handling of incidents that involved use-of force to maintaining food service standards. A spokesperson for ICE said that the agency is working hard to resolve all the issues. This includes providing additional training to staff.
These minor infractions include failing to provide exercise equipment for detainees, errors with record keeping and leaky vents. The spokesperson also stated that a computer was shared to conduct legal research. This allowed detainees the opportunity to view other detainees’ case information. DHS spokesperson said that the report showed the facility was compliant with the detention standards. The spokesperson stated that “ICE’s detention standards are higher than those of most U.S. jails which hold U.S. citizens.” Winn Correctional, which houses more than 1,500 prisoners, is one of ICE’s largest detention facilities in the United States. It was first opened in 1989, but ICE took over the facility from the state in 2019 The DHS Inspector General’s office, which recently received $20 million in funding and plans to increase its inspections to 40-60 per year from the current four to six inspections per year, produced this report after an unannounced visit. ICE states that 70% of the 1,500 Winn detainees have “No ICE Threat Level,” which means they don’t have violent criminal backgrounds. Winn, located an hour north of Alexandria is one of the four hubs where ICE flights depart from around the United States.
