Jofra Archer: Ben Stokes issues England warning over hardline IPL stance

Jofra Archer: Ben Stokes issues England warning over hardline IPL stance

Ben Stokes, the ctain of England’s cricket team, has warned players that they may quit international cricket if England takes a strict stance against the Indian Premier League. Jofra archer, the fast bowler who played in the Indian Premier League last year, will not play the first test against New Zealand. He may also be unable to play the second.

In an ideal scenario, it would have been incredible to be able to call on everyone you wanted at every opportunity. Stokes stated that cricket isn’t playing by the rules at the present time. It could be messy, and players like Jofra may not play again for England if it is handled in a different manner. That is not good for anybody.

“Jofra is committed to England and loves the game. The fact that he’s not playing in this first test match doesn’t change anything.

The 31 year old is in Barbados now, his country of birth. He won’t return to England before the first Test. The second Test begins at The Oval on 17th June. The absence of Archer from the first test at Lord’s means England is without its premier fast bowler, as they try to rebuild after the 4-1 Ashes loss in Australia. Michael Atherton, a former England ctain, and Michael Vaughan have both questioned Archer’s absence.

I know this whole situation was discussed quite a bit over the last few weeks. Stokes said, “I totally understand the frustrations of people, but it’s not all bad.

“A lot of the points that people make about Jof and this situation have to do with how it looked when they played. It’s totally different now. There are cricketing opportunities that were not available 10, 15, 20 year ago. There is so much out there for cricketers. I can see both sides. It’s a question of ‘why is Jofn’t here?’ but I understand there are other options and you want to players to be in a position to take advantage of them.

Lajpat is not a mall with air conditioning, escalators, or even floors. The open-air market is overcrowded with uneven footpaths, or missing ones. Vendors have also encroached on the paths. This makes it difficult to maneuver prams and sometimes walk.

ICC to trial pink balls to limit bad light stoppages

ICC to trial pink balls to limit bad light stoppages

The International Cricket Council has launched a test to use pink balls to reduce the amount of time lost due to poor lighting in Test matches. Since 2015, the pink ball is used in day and night Test matches. However, it has never been interchangeable for the red ball. The ICC has announced that it will be introducing the trial this Monday, but is still working out a timetable for its implementation. It won’t be available in time to use during the first Test match between England vs New Zealand starting on Thursday. The England and Wales Cricket Board is working closely with the ICC in order to better understand the trial.

The teams must both agree to use a pink-colored ball when the light is bad. The frustration among players, broadcasters and fans has grown as the number of venues with floodlights increases. In 2024, the bad lighting at The Oval cost England’s 3rd Test against Sri Lanka more than half its first day. Former England ctain Michael Vaughan, speaking at the time said: “You just go to a ball that’s pink and keep going.” Teams will need to accept bad luck. You’re never going to please everyone with all these ideas. I want them to continue.” Since the first day-night test between Australia and New Zealand, played in Adelaide 11 year ago, there have been 25 such matches. There has only been one day-night test in England. In 2017, the home team defeated West Indies at Edgbaston. Australia has made day-night cricket a regular fixture. The home team is almost unbeatable with the pink ball, having won 14 out of 15 tests under lights. Day-night Tests have taken place in each Ashes Series in Australia, and the home team has won them all. England is considering rejecting the day-night test for their next Ashes Tour in 2029-30. But, Australia and England’s 150th Anniversary Test in Melbourne in March next year will be a night-and-day affair. The ICC meeting in Ahmedabad also proved allowing head coaches to enter on the field of play in T20 matches during drinks breaks, mirroring a recent trend in franchise leagues. The governing body “expressed concerns regarding the increasing expanse of franchise Cricket”. The ICC has announced it will form a new committee to harmonise international and franchise schedules. Cricket Canada was also suspended from the ICC with immediate effect for “serious violations of its obligations as a member”.

“You have to work eight hours,” he told me. “Whether or not you continue to work in the heat, or take breaks, your pay will be the same.”.
