Welcome to Derry’ Surprise Halloween Special Drops on HBO Max

Happy Halloween, indeed!
Just in time for the spooky holiday, HBO has released a surprise episode of “It: Welcome to Derry” on the streaming platform. Titled “A Story of Derry,” the special comes in at 30 minutes and is set hundreds of years before the show’s events and the introduction of Pennywise.
The timing is perfect for a surprise release of the supernatural horror, which HBO renewed for a second season in August. “It: Welcome to Derry” originally premiered on HBO Max on Oct. 26, 2025. It is based on Stephen King’s novel “It” and builds on the two-part “It” film reboot from 2017 and 2019. The show serves as a prequel to the films.
That month, before the show’s official renewal was announced, co-creator Andy Muschietti told Variety that the writers’ room had opened for Season 2. “There’s gonna be a lot of that depression-era hustling in the air in our characters. Everybody’s trying to get by and survive the circumstances. They are gonna do crazy things,” Muschietti said. “And of course, the social, cultural, horrible things that were happening in the era, too. We’re not going to skip those. [They are the] very center and the heart of our story.”
He also clarified that Season 2 will have a different aesthetic than Season 1.
“In this case, on the surface, Derry is a graveyard almost. It’s a carcass of something because people are depleted, poor, tired, jobless, homeless. The kids don’t have a suburban, comforting life,” Muschietti said. “They’re in a very different situation. Some of them are orphans or runaways, and so the environment is pretty bleak. But there’s always the aspect of hope that is always there, burning, and it’s what keeps our new group going.”
Season 1 is set in 1962 in the fictional town of Derry, Maine, and details the town’s residents’ earlier experiences with the evil, shape-shifting clown, Pennywise. Season 2 will do back in time to 1935 and takes place during the Great Depression. Per the logline, the story “centers on the bloody massacre of the Bradley Gang, a group of bank robbers who stop in Derry to buy ammo and end up facing unimaginable horror.” (The Bradley Gang Massacre is one of the interludes in King’s original novel.)

HBO Premiere Has Shocking Blink-and-You’ll-Miss-It Cameo

The Gilded Age’s Season 4 premiere has many delicious twists and turns. But the most surprising development is one you might not have even noticed.
Amid the joyful wedding festivities, traumatic labor scenes, and a long-overdue hookup, the two unnamed men crossing from one side of 61st Street to the other might make you do a double-take. No, your eyes aren’t deceiving you.
Yes, that really is David Letterman and Matt Damon decked out like 19th-century gentlemen in their finery.
Now, of all the many unexpected events across four seasons of Julian Fellowes’ glitzy HBO period drama, this double cameo is not quite as shocking as the runaway carriage that killed John Adams, the attempt on George Russell’s (Morgan Spector) life, or even an alarm clock invention storyline that became an audience obsession.
Still, this twosome ranks among the most confounding—albeit super stylish—moments because there isn’t an obvious connection between The Gilded Age and the former late-night talk show host and one of the world’s biggest movie stars. Why are they here?
Letterman and Damon appear early on, right after a harrowing interaction in which Gladys Russell’s (Taissa Farmiga) life hangs in the balance in England, and her husband is asked to make a crucial choice. Gladys is in labor, and the baby is in the breech position.
The doctor asks Hector, Duke of Buckingham (Ben Lamb), who he should prioritize saving: Gladys or the baby? Hector tells the physician to try to save both, but if it comes to it, his wife comes first. Fellowes is no stranger to killing off characters on a palatial English estate, as Downton Abbey proved, increasing the tension of this already fraught sequence.
Cutting back to Manhattan, the camera focuses on the two well-attired men crossing the street in a way that makes them seem important or as if they will appear in the next scene, so make note. Have they just come from Oscar van Rhijn’s (Blake Ritson) wedding reception? They are not heading toward the Russell mansion, so it is unlikely they have anything to do with George’s latest meltdown about business matters not going his way.
Given what is going on in England with Gladys, you will be forgiven for missing the uncredited A-list cameo during what seemed like a simple transition. Plus, it is truly a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it moment. Even if you are paying attention, you might not recognize the man with the bushy white beard and his impressive mustachioed companion, because they don’t exactly scream The Gilded Age.
Or, if you do catch the resemblance, you may think you have hallucinated this curious pairing. There is no reason to make this connection, as the only famous people who show up are dramatized figures from this era, like Oscar Wilde and John Singer Sargent.
In terms of casting, The Gilded Age typically favors a deep bench of stage actors, but Damon has said he still wants to make his Broadway debut. Perhaps this is his way in.
There is no obvious explanation as to how they ended up in Bertha Russell’s (Carrie Coon) New York, so we are left to speculate. Now, my number one theory is this was some sort of auction prize at a charity fundraiser. But why this duo?
Their only apparent link is that Damon will appear in Season 7 of Letterman’s Netflix intimate talk show My Next Guest Needs No Introduction with David Letterman, scheduled for an unspecified date at the end of this year. Perhaps this is a rare Netflix-HBO Max crossover event.
Other projects don’t throw up any obvious links. Damon is not getting decked out in fancy period tailoring as a favor to an Odyssey co-star. Nor does this resemble a stealth campaign to curry favor with Academy voters who are big fans of the Gilded Age. Sure, his walk looks authentic, and he is pulling off the top hat, sideburns, and ‘tache, but he also doesn’t have any lines.
Digging further back, I found some interviews with Damon in which he discusses his wife Luciana Barroso’s love of Downton Abbey. One was during a 2014 appearance on The Graham Norton Show while promoting The Monuments Men with co-star Hugh Bonneville (who played Downton Abbey’s Robert Crawley, Earl of Grantham), in which he mentioned Barroso’s binging habits.
In another interview during this same press tour, Damon said he would happily guest-star on the British period drama if asked. While that never came to pass, this Gilded Age appearance could scratch that itch without committing to a whole episode (or season).
While clocking the pair when rewatching the premiere, I wondered if they would pop up again like a less stripy Where’s Waldo. Sadly, neither Damon nor Letterman show up at the wedding after-party at Webster Hall to dance the night away with Marion (Louisa Jacobson) and Larry (Harry Richardson). Nor are they at the hotel where Marion and Larry end up due to the raging storm—where they then fall into bed.
They also aren’t hanging out on 61st Street when Marion arrives home the following morning, still wearing the same gown from the night before. For Marion, this is definitely a walk of shame when it should actually be a stride of pride (thank you, Liz Lemon). They are also not working with the Pinkertons, hot on the heels of the man who shot George last season.
This is no odyssey across Manhattan; there is no runaway horse or showdown with George. Instead, The Gilded Age has shown its capacity to surprise, even when crossing the street after a rainstorm without incident. All you need is the right dapper double act to pull this off.

Love Horoscopes For Each Zodiac Sign On Monday, November 2, 2026

The only constant in life is change, which is made very clear by the love horoscopes for November 2, 2026. The North Node in Aquarius opposes Jupiter in Leo on Monday, calling each zodiac sign to make some changes in the way they approach relationships.
Making this more intense is the South Node in Leo. The shadow side of Leo is wanting to be placed on a pedestal or even placing yourself on one. It’s thinking about what you want to receive rather than what you have to give. Yet, the North Node in Aquarius means giving each other respect and appreciation even on the hard days. Especially on the hard days. It’s time to grow.
Love horoscopes for Monday, November 2, 2026:
Aries

Something happens on Monday that changes how you think about love. You often seek extremes in your romantic life so you can experience the intensity of emotions. However, there is something to be said for truly being friends first.
Rather than solely looking for romance, try to recognize the importance of friendship. You shouldn’t actually date anyone that you wouldn’t want to have as a friend anyway, Aries.

Taurus

If you want a relationship to work then you actually need to be willing to invest in it. While you have no problem doing what’s necessary for your career, you don’t often take the same stance in your personal life.
But this is precisely what you need to do. Love doesn’t run on autopilot, Taurus. Rather than just showing up for big events or photo ops, truly be present with the person you love on Monday.

Gemini

Let life surprise you on Monday, Gemini. You sometimes get so bogged down in what you think you know that you forget to leave room for the unexpected.
The energy on November 2 is urging you to challenge your previous views and what you’ve come to expect from love. This will help you take new risks and understand how expansive your purpose can really be in this lifetime.

Cancer

You have been burned in the past. No one is arguing that, Cancer. However, don’t let it harden you too much. Be sure that you’re still letting people in.
As much as part of your story has been about learning to thrive on your own, that doesn’t mean you can’t or shouldn’t let anyone else in. You don’t want to get so comfortable being alone that you’re shutting down opportunities for love.

Leo

You should never feel limited by your relationship. But that also means you shouldn’t ever use your relationship as a scapegoat for the life you wished you were living.
Be cautious with making everything the fault of your partner on November 2 as you need to understand the power of your own decisions. Be ready to take accountability and to figure out how to forge a new path together.

Virgo

Try to ground yourself in what is real on November 2. Both in your relationship and in your life. Focus on how it all feels to you and what you actually want.
This can help you challenge the inner narrative so that you can overcome your fears and begin to write a new story.

Libra
Photos: NASA & sparklestroke | Design: YourTango
Don’t be afraid to create your own path on Monday, Libra. You have a habit of putting your close relationships first. Which is a strength until you let it start defining your romantic choices.
Be sure that you’re honoring your own desire for commitment and togetherness. Your friends are a wonderful part of your life, but not only can they not take the place of a romantic relationship, but they can’t be the reason for the choices you make.

Scorpio
Photos: NASA & sparklestroke | Design: YourTango
On November 2, you are being urged to find and choose what feels most authentic for you in all areas of your life. But you’re also not meant to do it alone. Don’t forget who your people are, Scorpio.
In the past, you tried to distance yourself from certain relationships. However, all that is changing on Monday when you start realizing not only what you really want but also the people who have always been there for you.

Sagittarius
Photos: NASA & sparklestroke | Design: YourTango
It doesn’t matter how your life looks for others, Sagittarius. You’ve sacrificed too much of what you want in order to keep up appearances.
You left behind certain people and relationships all because you couldn’t see how to bring them into your current life. Missing the point that you were meant to start a brand-new one. November 2 is all about you choosing for you.

Capricorn
Photos: NASA & sparklestroke | Design: YourTango
You have had a very set vision of what you envision for your life and relationship. This has always come with a certain status or financial level.
However, true value and abundance aren’t always about money. On November 2, be open to redefining what your best life and love actually look like, Capricorn. Pour into what will bring true fulfillment.

Aquarius
Photos: NASA & sparklestroke | Design: YourTango
You are allowed to start over as many times as you need, Aquarius. Forget about those who only have something negative to say when you mention starting over or a new relationship.
You have always been destined to follow your own unique path. This means that more than most, your relationships are usually representative of your own growth. You will outgrow people as you continue to evolve and that’s not necessarily a bad thing.

Pisces
Photos: NASA & sparklestroke | Design: YourTango
Your gift is always being able to see things others can’t. But because you’ve been through so much, you’ve begun leaning on reality more than your intuition. Yet, this isn’t who you truly are, Pisces.
In order to find the love you seek and end up in the life that’s meant for you, listen to your intuition. Even when it differs from reality. Just because you can’t see how something will work out doesn’t mean that it won’t.

Matt Damon & David Letterman Appear In ‘Gilded Age’s Season 4 Premiere

SPOILER ALERT: The following reveals major plot points from HBO‘s The Gilded Age‘s Season 4 premiere.
Surprise! The Gilded Age kicked off its fourth season with multiple surprises, including the quiet appearances of Matt Damon and David Letterman. At about 8:33, two gentlemen are crossing the street together, played by Damon and Letterman.
Damon is wearing a top hat, a white shirt with an ascot, tucked into a long coat with slacks. He looks different because he’s got sideburns and a fuzzy mustache. Letterman has the same beard he’s been wearing for some years now, a bowler hat, and an all-black ensemble.
Neither character utters a word, but they look like serious businessmen on their way to close some major deals for buckets of money. It’s rather comical to see Damon and Letterman make such small appearances, because they could’ve played larger roles. But it’s actually perfect that they exist in this world and didn’t take away from the story or the characters.
Some of the other surprise moments include Oscar van Rhijn’s (Blake Ritson) wedding to Enid Turner (Kelley Curran), a lavender marriage that seems to be the happiest and most functional pairing in town. After leaving the older folks at the reception, the newest Mrs. van Rhijn recruits Marian (Louisa Jacobson) to join her and Oscar, as well as a few others, for a little after-hours fun.
Marian bumps into her former fiancé, Larry Russell (Harry Richardson), at the soiree, and he ribs her for previously saying she would never be caught at a party like that. Not exactly a house of ill repute, but a bit racy and risque. From jokes to dancing together alongside Oscar and Enid, the night leads to Larry leaving with Marian as he tries to get her home safely in the rain. A little driving incident leads the former couple to take cover at a local hotel, where they become lovers.
In the morning, Marian freaks out about them having spent the night together and how it could ruin her reputation, and rushes home. Larry is beside himself, but at that point, nothing could be done. Read more on this in our latest interview with Richardson and Jacobson.
Elsewhere, Peggy is celebrating the release of her book, which dazzles everyone but Elizabeth Kirkland (Phylicia Rashad), her future mother-in-law. Speaking of Mrs. Kirkland, she has lots of plans for Peggy and her mother, Dorothy Scott (Audra McDonald), though her true intentions are as yet unknown.
Across the pond, Gladys (Taissa Farmiga) nearly dies in childbirth, but luckily she and her baby boy are well and healing after a medical emergency. Unfortunately, the doctor had to give Gladys a hysterectomy to save her life, and as a result, she will be unable to have any more children naturally. More on this from Deadline’s interview with Farmiga.
The next day, Agnes van Rhijn (Christine Baranski) is basking in the glow of her son’s new marriage when Armstrong (Debra Monk) interrupts the gaiety to let her in on a secret: Agnes’ new daughter-in-law was Bertha Russell’s (Carrie Coon) former lady’s maid. Agnes is, of course, furious that Armstrong didn’t tell her before the nuptials, but now it’s too late.
However, Agnes and Enid meet up for a chat to clear the air. The latter admits to her past and comforts Agnes by saying that her past didn’t affect her when she was Mrs. Winterton. She also admits to her new mother-in-law that both she and Oscar have entered into this union with their eyes wide open, gently letting Agnes know that her son’s sexuality is no secret. And for a little added pizzazz, Enid sweetens the pot by telling her she’s looking forward to supporting Oscar’s passion for the arts and the charities Agnes supports.
The rest of the season continues with new episodes on Sunday nights airing at 9 pm ET/PT on HBO. Here’s a look at the rest of the season below.

Megan Thee Stallion Stuns in Custom Cirque du Soleil Costume at Hottieween 2026

How much time and energy went into your Halloween costume this year?
As Megan Thee Stallion fans are aware, the 31-year-old rapper is known for going all in every October — and 2026 was no different.
Megan made her celebrated entrance at this weekend’s Hottieween, her annual bash, in a custom costume by Cirque du Soleil. It was also framed by four Cirque du Soleil performers for her arrival moment, per a Saturday, October 31 news release.
The costume was designed and made specifically for her Halloween celebration at Resorts World Las Vegas. It reportedly transformed right in front of the crowd in three stages, from a towering arrival look to a party getup built for the rest of the night.
The “Hot Girl Summer” singer took to social media to showcase her Halloween costume this weekend. “No errands. No emergencies, just Hottieween,” reads the caption of her recent Instagram post, whose comments section has since been flooded by fans calling her the “queen of Halloween.”
“Working with Cirque du Soleil on this year’s Hottieween costume was such an amazing experience,” Megan said in a statement shared Saturday. “The amount of preparation, creativity and attention to detail that went into bringing everything to life was incredible. It was the perfect way to set the tone for another unforgettable Hottieween celebration.”
The moment opened with a four-minute Cirque du Soleil act. Four striped performers in red masks brought breaking, capoeira, gliding, contortion and diabolo to the Zouk stage, then froze as Megan’s music dropped and she was rolled out in the costume’s giant origami pumpkin skirt, according to Saturday’s news release. After she addressed the crowd, the performers pulled the pumpkin apart on her cue to reveal her party look.
Since its debut in 2019, Hottieween has attracted a variety of celebrities. Each year, Megan chooses a city and a unique theme — and then steals the show with an elaborate costume. To date, Hottieween has taken over Los Angeles, Atlanta, Chicago, Houston and Las Vegas.

Melissa Rycroft Strickland was arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated in Southlake, Texas, on Nov. 1, according to jail records
She also faces charges involving an invalid license and alleged vehicle damage under $200
Rycroft pleaded guilty in September to a previous DWI charge
Melissa Rycroft Strickland has been arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated, two months after pleading guilty to a previous DWI charge.
The Bachelor alum, who appeared on season 13 of the reality show in 2009, was arrested in Southlake, Texas, on Sunday, Nov. 1, according to jail records viewed by PEOPLE.
Rycroft Strickland, 43, was charged with driving while intoxicated, driving while license was invalid with a prior conviction or suspension without financial responsibility and collision causing damage to a vehicle under $200.
Her bond was set at a combined total of $9,000, records show.
TMZ was the first to report the news.
The charges come more than a year after Rycroft Strickland was arrested in Southlake on Sept. 23, 2025, and charged with DWI.
In a press release shared with PEOPLE at the time, the Southlake Police Department said they responded to a single-vehicle crash around 12:05 p.m. local time and found “a black Cadillac Escalade that had struck a tree.”
“Prior to the crash, witnesses reportedly observed the Escalade driving erratically,” the statement continued, noting that the driver was later identified as Rycroft Strickland.
Rycroft Strickland was evaluated by officers on the scene and underwent a Standardized Field Sobriety Test, before being arrested and transported to the Keller Jail, police said.
“No other vehicles were involved, and no injuries were reported,” the press release concluded. “The case remains under investigation.”
Following her 2025 arrest, Rycroft Strickland shared a brief message to a fan on social media, thanking them for their support.
“Life really sucks right now and I’m struggling, but I’m trying to march forward….but thank you for the sweet words in what seems like a world of negativity….” she wrote in October last year.

According to Us Weekly, Rycroft Strickland was sentenced in September this year to 20 months’ probation and $2,000 in fines and court costs after pleading guilty in that case.
A judge ordered that she would have to complete 36 hours of community service, take a DWI education course and undergo a substance abuse evaluation. She was also prohibited from drinking alcohol or using illegal drugs while on probation, was required to use a camera-enabled ignition interlock device on her car, and had to submit to drug and alcohol testing.
The reality star and former Dallas Cowboys cheerleader, who appeared on Jason Mesnick’s season of The Bachelor, famously accepted Mesnick’s proposal on the show before he broke up with her on live TV in favor of his now-wife and runner-up Molly Mesnick.
Rycroft Strickland later appeared on Dancing with the Stars in 2009 and returned in 2012 when she won the all-star season.
She shares three kids with her husband, Tye Strickland, whom she wed in 2009 before the couple starred together in the reality show Melissa & Tye three years later.
