‘Will & Grace,’ ‘Friends’ stars pay tribute to James Burrows after legendary TV director dies at 85

Television stars are paying tribute to director James Burrows following his death at age 85.
Among those honoring Burrows were the stars of “Will & Grace,” a series he helped shape during both its original run and revival.
Debra Messing shared an emotional tribute on social media, calling Burrows a “legend,” an “icon” and a “singular talent.”
“He brought laughter and love into more homes, globally, than any other TV director in history,” Messing wrote in an Instagram post.
The actress, who portrayed Grace Adler, reflected on the personal bond she shared with Burrows, describing him as a beloved presence in her life and her son’s life.
“Today, we lost our TV dad,” she wrote, recalling how Burrows encouraged actors to experiment and trusted them to explore their characters. “I love you Jimmy. Find the clowns up there. They need direction.”
Eric McCormack also honored his longtime collaborator, writing, “We lost a giant today, a mentor to me and a dear friend.”
The cast of “Friends” also remembered Burrows, who directed several episodes of the hit sitcom and maintained close relationships with its stars.
Matt LeBlanc described Burrows as an “icon” whose impact on television and the people he worked with was immeasurable.
“Words cannot describe the impact and influence you had on us and everyone who was lucky enough to have known you,” LeBlanc captioned an Instagram photo of the two together.
David Schwimmer echoed those sentiments, describing Burrows as a mentor and father figure.
“Jimmy Burrows brought out the best in every actor he ever worked with,” Schwimmer wrote. “His warmth, humility and generosity made us feel safe, like family.”
Schwimmer said countless writers, actors, producers and crew members benefited from watching Burrows work, praising both his talent and generosity.
Lisa Kudrow also paid tribute, sharing a photo to her Instagram Stories of herself and Burrows from the set of “The Comeback.”
Burrows’ agent, Rick Rosen, confirmed his death on June 19, telling ABC News, “Jimmy was the greatest comedic television director in the history of the medium,” “He directed the most iconic, defining shows of generations. Always a gentleman, it was an absolute honor to represent him.”
Over a career that spanned decades, Burrows became one of the most influential figures in television comedy, directing episodes of beloved series including “The Mary Tyler Moore Show,” “Taxi,” “Cheers,” “Frasier,” “Friends,” “3rd Rock from the Sun” and “Will & Grace.”

Black SUV seen leaving Taylor Swift’s Rhode Island home amid potential bachelorette bash
Taylor Swift’s summer is shaping up to be anything but cruel.
A black SUV with tinted windows was spotted leaving Taylor Swift’s Rhode Island mansion a little before 11 a.m. local time on Saturday, as the pop star gears up to marry Travis Kelce on July 3.
An eyewitness claimed to TMZ that it was the songwriter herself.
Sources also told the outlet that Swift, 36, is celebrating her upcoming nuptials to the NFL star, also 36, with her girlfriends at her $17 million oceanside vacation home.
On Wednesday, a woman – who resembled Swift — was seen wearing white and surrounded by three pals dressed in black on the balcony of her Watch Hill property.
The Grammy winner’s best friend Abigail Anderson Berard was also pictured holding a young child on the balcony.
The outlet reported that security was present at the mansion — including an armed guard at the gate.
Kelce, meanwhile, was in Los Angeles on Monday for his “New Heights” podcast live show, before partaking in a night out on the town Wednesday.
Kelce partied at Bird Streets Club with brother, Jason Kelce, comedian Druski and his former Kansas City Chiefs teammate Ross Travis.
The NFL star spent Friday at Chris Lake’s Los Angeles concert.
At one point Travis kept his fiancée close to his heart as he danced on stage to a remix of her track.
He screamed to the crowd, “I know y’all feel it” and “lose your f—ing minds.”
Swift and Travis are set to tie the knot at Madison Square Garden in New York City.
Multiple sources told Page Six that the couple is using celebrity wedding planner Mark Seed to coordinate the event.
An insider added that Seed and the couple have been working together “for months.”
It was originally reported that Swift and Travis were going to say “I Do” on June 13 at posh Ocean House in Watch Hill.
Allegedly Swift was so adamant about that specific day that she cut a hefty check to another bride-to-be who had already booked her wedding at the venue.
Months later, it was revealed that Swift and Travis switched up their location to accommodate more people.
Exact details surrounding the pair’s wedding have been kept under wraps.
In April, Travis’ sister-in-law, Kylie Kelce, revealed she is sick and tired of the public trying to squeeze information out of her about the special day.
The athlete addressed the audience on her “Not Gonna Lie” podcast at the time, stating: “Quit asking me and me and my mother-in-law about upcoming nuptials. Nobody’s f–king telling you anything.”
Kylie also asked fans to stop questioning her mother-in-law, Donna Kelce, in person.
“Stop f–king asking my mother-in-law, TMZ. F–king being creeps in the f–ing airport,” she ranted. “Ew. Here’s the thing, even if I did have any information, I’m not f–king telling you. That’s private information between family. A and B, see your way out.”

Dua Lipa shares new photos of wedding with husband Callum Turner
One wedding is not enough for everyone’s favorite celebrity travelers, Dua Lipa and Callum Turner.
The pop star, 30, and actor, 36, tied the knot at an intimate civil wedding in London on May 31 before having a second, more lavish and picturesque wedding on a Sicilian island on June 6.
A carousel of photos the “Levitating” singer shared on Instagram on Saturday, June 20, shows the British couple on their big day, partying in Italy and visibly enamored with each other, with a post caption that reads “Mr & Mrs.” One photo shows the couple sharing a toast to their future with a bottle of Ruinart champagne, one them dancing together and another of Lipa squeezing Turner’s cheeks.
While Lipa opted for a custom Schiaparelli couture skirt suit and a white-brimmed hat at her private London ceremony, she stunned at the grandiose wedding in Sicily in a feather-and-crystal-embellished Chanel haute couture gown, according to Vogue. Matthieu Blazy designed the original look, which featured an intricate low back and feather-dappled train, a feather-dappled headpiece and a long embroidered veil, Vanity Fair reported.
For both ceremonies, Lipa wore jewelry from the label Bvlgari, for which she serves as an ambassador, including a necklace worth hundreds of thousands of dollars at the London wedding and an extravagant watch at the Sicilian pre-party, per Vanity Fair.
As for the groom, the “Rosebush Pruning” star wore a custom double-breasted Ferragamo suit at the London wedding, with a matching navy shirt and tie, and later a custom black Louis Vuitton suit with a bow tie in Sicily.
The couple naturally welcomed a plethora of their famous friends to a June 5 welcome party before the main event, with the guest list including Charli XCX, Troye Sivan, Joe Alwyn, Mark Ronson, Donatella Versace and Tame Impala singer Kevin Parker, according to Vogue. The ceremony was set at the historic 18th-century Sicilian palace Villa Valguarnera, and the Daily Mail reported that the event cost more than $1.7 million.
Last June, Lipa told British Vogue that the “Eternity” star proposed with a ring that he had made for her.
The “End of an Era” singer said she “never really understood the weight of” marriage until her engagement. “This decision to grow old together, to see a life and just, I don’t know, be best friends forever – it’s a really special feeling,” she said.
How did Dua Lipa and Callum Turner meet?
Lipa and Turner met at pre-party drinks for a mutual friend’s birthday in Los Angeles, the actor revealed in an October interview with The Sunday Times. He shared that they hit it off after bonding over reading the same novel, Hernán Díaz’s “Trust,” which was published in 2022, later won the Pulitzer Prize and follows the secretive life of a 1920s financier in New York City.
“We sat next to each other and realized we were reading the same book, which is crazy,” he told the outlet. “It’s called ‘Trust’ and I had just finished the first chapter.”
“I told her and she looked at me and said, ‘I just finished the first chapter too,'” Turner continued, before revealing a smooth pickup line: “I said, ‘So we’re on the same page.'”

LA County releases report on Paramount-Warner deal’s economic impact
Paramount Skydance’s $111 billion takeover of Warner Bros. Discovery could lead to devastating bloodshed for Hollywood’s economy, according to a new report from Los Angeles County.
The merger between the two legacy studios puts about 2,500 jobs in the county and 6,000 globally at potential risk, the County Department of Economic Opportunity calculated.
Corporate, tech and real estate jobs are potentially in jeopardy given duplicative roles across the two companies. The combined studios are under pressure to deal with an “unusually high” $82 billion debt burden, and $6 billion in savings are eyed by consolidating roles and functions.
Much of that will heavily impact Los Angeles County, the report said.
“The findings reinforce what workers, employers, and small businesses have been telling us for years: our entertainment economy remains in a fragile recovery period,” said department director Kelly LoBianco.
To make things worse, the new company may not shoot many films in the area, which would provide some economic boost. Of the 19 films that were scheduled to release last year from the two studios, only one was primarily based in California.
“For the regional economy, one can take seriously the optimistic case that the combined company could substantially increase its theatrical and television output,” said Adam Fowler, an economist at CVL Economics.
“Given the trajectory of local production in recent years, Los Angeles is not well positioned today to capture much of that hypothetical increase.”
The report recommended the county reach out to the new company for commitments to local job growth and support and incentivize more local Hollywood production through tax credits or easier permitting.
The numbers come as California’s iconic film industry has already been battered over the past six years by the COVID-19 pandemic, the Hollywood labor strikes, and the January 2025 wildfires.
Federal antitrust regulators this month cleared the blockbuster media merger without demanding a single concession, despite some controversy surrounding the deal. But a group of states, including California and New York, are preparing a lawsuit to potentially block it.
Meanwhile, the Golden State has been trying to make moves to lure Hollywood back to its former glory. Gov. Gavin Newsom signed a bill last year doubling California’s film and TV tax credit program, and in Los Angeles, the struggling entertainment industry has been a hot topic in the mayoral race.
A spokesperson for Paramount told The Post that the merger will be for the benefit of the city and the state, as legacy studios navigate the dominance of streaming platforms.
“A combined Paramount-WBD will have the scale and resources needed to compete more effectively in a rapidly evolving global media marketplace and invest in content, technology, and jobs,” the company said.

Blake Lively Steps Out Alone in New York Amid Taylor Swift’s Bachelorette Buzz
Blake Lively’s staying solo this weekend … hanging out alone while Taylor Swift’s surrounded by friends at her Rhode Island home.
Photogs spotted the “Gossip Girl” star walking around Pound Ridge, New York solo — no friend with whom to gossip — Friday … keeping it casual in a white floral long-sleeve as she pushed a shopping cart.
Blake didn’t seem too distressed … though fans are wondering how she’s really feeling about not partaking in the festivities at T-Swift’s home.
As you know … a ton of Taylor’s friends have packed into her Rhode Island mansion this week for an event. It’s all ladies and, with her wedding right around the corner, many believe this may be the bachelorette party.
At this time 2 years ago, Blake would’ve been a shoo-in at the event … she and her husband, Ryan Reynolds, were really close to Taylor and Travis Kelce — however, Taylor and Blake had a falling out shortly after BL filed her now infamous lawsuit against Justin Baldoni.
In the course of the legal back and forth, texts Blake allegedly sent to Justin came out which mentioned Taylor as one of her “dragons” in a “Game of Thrones” reference.
The two seemingly patched things up in a subsequent text convo … but, given Blake’s not hanging with her pal at what looks like a milestone event, it appears they’re not as tight as they used to be.
Worth noting … we haven’t gotten word on whether Blake and Ryan will be at Taylor and Travis’ Madison Square Garden wedding celebration in early July — but, with a nearly 1,200-person guest list, it certainly seems possible.
As for seemingly not receiving the invite to more intimate events like the one in Rhode Island this week … Blake will just have to shake it off.

‘Toy Story 5’ Headed to $160M Biggest Opening of 2026
Disney and Pixar are unwrapping a major box office gift with Toy Story 5, which is headed toward the biggest opening of the year so far in the $160 million range. That’s after the film notched the second biggest opening day of all time for an animated feature with $71 million, just behind The Incredibles 2‘s $72.2 million in 2018.
Audiences gave the film an A CinemaScore and are pacing ahead of 2019’s Toy Story 4, which bowed to $120.9 million in June. Toy Story veteran Andrew Stanton directs, with Kenna Harris co-directing.
Steven Spielberg and Universal’s original sci-fi feature Disclosure Day is falling 69 percent and is expected to earn around $17 million in its second weekend after opening to $44 million. Its domestic tally will end the weekend with about $78 million.
In its sixth weekend, Focus Features’ box office sensation Obsession will finally post a weekend smaller than its opening of $17.2 million, and is expected to pull in around $14 million for a domestic total of around $215 million. It long ago became Focus’ No. 1 movie of all time both domestically and globally, where it has passed $300 million.
