Iowa TV anchor gets choked up as he quits job and journalism

An Iowa TV anchor choked up on air as he quit his job, and announced he was leaving journalism – before blasting his station for spewing “saturated” news that makes local viewers “uncomfortable.”
Dustin Nolan, morning anchor for NBC-affiliate KWQC-TV 6 in Davenport, delivered the dramatic on-air resignation Friday, repeatedly pausing while fighting back tears before issuing a stinging rebuke of the news station.
“I have chosen to step away from the news industry,” said Nolan, who has worked at KWQC since 2022.
“Before I say goodbye, I just want to say, I hope every one of you that’s allowed me to be a part of your mornings just how important that I have taken this job, how much it means to me that you’ve trusted me these past few years to bring you the news in the morning.”
The distraught broadcaster stressed that he has “given everything” to serving up transparent, fact-driven news coverage to the Quad Cities, calling it a “public service.”
Nolan said all he has ever wanted was to report on the “issues that really matter.”
“I’ve always believed that we as a local news station owe you, the viewers, the best that we can do, because without you, none of us would be able to do this job,” Nolan added.
“I also believe that we, as a local news station, have to be more than trends or sanitized news, because it makes people feel uncomfortable,” he continued.
“That’s why the facts matter, and that’s why we do what we do here. We have to take people out of their bubbles and comfort zones and make them think about the world we all live in.”
The tearful anchor went on to praise his co-anchor — his wife Jenna — as the “greatest co-anchor in life.”
Nolan has worked at the Gray Media-owned station since November 2022, according to his LinkedIn.
After graduating from Catholic St. Ambrose University in Iowa, he began his career reporting sports in Wyoming for seven months before moving to Illinois, where he worked as a sports reporter at WQAD for nearly two years.
He later rose to a morning news anchor role at WFBF in Illinois, where he spent three years before joining KWQC.

The Kardashian-Jenner matriarch didn’t discriminate on Father’s Day posting all her kids’ baby daddies, even though none of them are together anymore. The collage highlighted Kanye West, Scott Disick, Travis Scott, Tristan Thompson, as well as her own exes Caitlyn Jenner and Robert Kardashian Sr.

Iowa Anchor Dustin Nolan Calls Out ‘Sanitized News’ as He Quits on Air

KWQC anchor Dustin Nolan gave an emotional on-air goodbye to his Quad City audience, announcing on Friday that he’s “chosen to step away from the new industry.” On his way out, he called out “sanitized news” and declared that it is the responsibility of journalists to “take people out of their bubbles and comfort zones and make them think about the world we all live in.”
“I have chosen to step away from the news industry,” Nolan said. “Before I say goodbye, I just want to say, I hope every one of you that’s allowed me to be a part of your mornings knows just how important that I have taken this job [and] how much it means to me that you’ve trusted me these past few years to bring you the news in the morning. I promise you, I’ve given you everything I have. I’ve never tried to be perfect, or what many think a newsman should be supposed to be, but I have always done my best to be transparent, bringing you the facts, and I’ve always been myself.”
“I’ve always believed that we, as a local news station, owe you, the viewers, the best that we can do, because without you, none of us would be able to do this job,” he added. “I also believe that we, as a local news station, have to be more than trends or sanitized news, because it makes people feel uncomfortable. That’s why the facts matter, and that’s why we do what we do here. We have to take people out of their bubbles and comfort zones and make them think about the world we all live in.”
KWQC is a station based in Davenport, Iowa, and reports news from the Quad Cities, which include Davenport, Iowa; Bettendorf, Iowa; Rock Island, Ill. and Molain, Ill. According to Nolan’s LinkedIn, he’s been working at the station since 2022.
Nolan is married to his KWQC co-anchor, Jenna, whom he thanked on his sign-off: “The hardest part of this job for me is the realization that I won’t be working with Jenna anymore, because she isn’t just the greatest go anchor on the news desk, but she is the greatest co-anchor in life as well.”

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s son, Archie, rocks England soccer shirt ahead of UK trip

Prince Archie sported an England soccer T-shirt while hugging his father, Prince Harry, in a sweet Father’s Day tribute on Sunday.
The 7-year-old was photographed holding onto the Duke of Sussex alongside his 5-year-old sister, Princess Lilibet, per a photo shared by Meghan Markle on Instagram.
“They’re so lucky to have you 🥹,” the Duchess of Sussex captioned the photo. “We all are. Happy Father’s Day to our one and only.”
Harry, 41, and Markle, 44, tied the knot in 2018 and welcomed their son the following year.
The couple raised Archie in the UK for a little over one year before quitting the royal family in January 2020 and fleeing to North America.
The Sussexes welcomed Lilibet in June 2021 at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital in Santa Barbara, California, and have since raised their kids nearby in Montecito.
Harry and Markle have remained estranged from the royal family since their bombshell tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey in 2021.
In the explosive sit-down, the “Suits” alum accused the royal family of racial bias, alleging that they had concerns about the potential color of Archie’s skin ahead of his birth.
Additionally, Markle alleged that her sister-in-law, Princess Kate Middleton, made her cry over the flower girl dresses leading up to the actress’s 2018 wedding.
However, Markle referred to Middleton as “a good person,” explaining that the latter apologized and sent her flowers.
Despite the family rift, insiders told Page Six that the As Ever founder and Harry were preparing to bring their kids to the UK in July.
The trip will be the little one’s first time going across the pond since 2022, though it’s unclear if they will meet with Harry’s dad, King Charles III, or any other royals.
Another insider told us that the monarch, 77, would be “diplomatic” and see Markle under the conditions of a private gathering with no photographers.
“I am sure he will see the children,” Hugo Vickers, a royal biographer, said. “The king has always left the door wide open, and he did see Harry last September.”

New Spider-Man popcorn buckets raise eyebrows: ‘Someone approved that?’

Cinemark has unveiled a new Spider-Man: Brand New Day-themed popcorn bucket for moviegoers, sparking a slew of NSFW comparisons.
The fourth installment in the Tom Holland-led superhero film series, out in theaters July 31, sees the British actor return opposite Zendaya as lovers Peter Parker/Spider-Man and MJ.
To celebrate the highly anticipated sequel, which arrives five years after the latest Spider-Man film in 2021, the movie theater chain designed a unique popcorn container featuring a Spider-Man arm topped with a white cone-like bowl and a straw in the middle, allowing fans to snack and drink from the same source.
While the white popcorn bowl is meant to look like a collection of webs, some have pointed out a suggestive visual resemblance.
“Chum bucket remove the ‘h,’” one person quipped on Instagram while another laughed, “And someone approved that… Amazing.”
“The industry has been intentionally making these popcorn buckets look dirty for publicity ever since the Dune 2 bucket,” a third argued, referring to the divisive design that featured a Sandworm mouth as a lid.
“I don’t want a spiderman jizz tornado thank you,” a fourth commented, with a fifth suggesting: “We need to chill on the popcorn buckets i think.”
“No one actually thought about the cup I see,” someone else joked.
“Think I’ll stick with the one shaped like a building with Spidey crawling on it,” another responded.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day marks Holland’s fourth entry as the web-shooting superhuman. He first stepped into the role in 2016’s Captain America: Civil War, before leading Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017), followed by Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019) and Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021).
The new movie follows Parker as he transitions to protecting New York City as Spider-Man full-time. However, the unrelenting demands trigger a dangerous physical transformation that threatens his existence. Zendaya reprises her role of MJ, Parker’s witty, fiercely independent and intelligent classmate-turned-lover. Also joining the cast are Sadie Sink, Jon Bernthal, Tramell Tillman, Liza Colón-Zayas, and Marvin Jones III.
Holland and Zendaya, who first met while filming Spider-Man: Homecoming and began dating in 2021, secretly tied the knot earlier this year. The former recently confirmed the marriage rumors, sparked in March by Zendaya’s longtime stylist, Law Roach.
“No, because they were all there,” Holland slyly told Esquire when asked whether he had to clarify to any other family members that AI-generated photos of their wedding were fake besides his grandma.
Elsewhere in the interview with Esquire, he weighed in on who he thought would make a worthy successor to the beloved Spider-Man franchise.
“Owen Cooper would be awesome,” he said of the 16-year-old star of Netflix’s hit miniseries Adolescence. “Obviously he’s super-talented and the talk of the town right now.”
Spider-Man: Brand New Day is out in theaters July 31.

Republicans’ Elmo Stunt Backfires Spectacularly

The GOP has been faced with their anti-Elmo history after trying to welcome him into the MAGA fold.
Republicans began warming up to Elmo Friday when he appeared in a FIFA World Cup video on X wearing a USA soccer jersey and declaring: “Elmo just wants to set the record straight… GO TEAM USA!”
Seemingly predicting that it could become a culture war flashpoint, the red monster ordered: “Just to be clear. Don’t make this a thing. Thank you.”
Looking around at his imagined audience, he concluded: “Elmo loves you, and Elmo loves you, and Elmo loves you, and Team USA, and everybody who’s playing.”
House Republicans promptly ignored Elmo’s request not to make it “a thing”: “Elmo is a certified PATRIOT!” they wrote on X.
The enthusiasm appeared to stem from Republicans viewing Elmo’s support for Team USA as an unapologetically pro-America statement from a character associated with Sesame Street and public broadcasting—institutions conservatives have frequently slammed as “woke.”
House Republicans then escalated matters further, adding: “Meanwhile, Democrats are rooting for foreigners…”
While the GOP was happy to invite Elmo to the party, others weren’t so quick to forget their previous slights against the beloved childhood character.
“You clowns literally defunded elmo,” one person raged, with another echoing: “You a—–es voted to defund PBS and called Sesame Street woke. You couldn’t be more hypocritical, loud, wrong, or clueless.”
The backlash touched on a very real fight involving the fuzzy character.
Last May, Trump signed an executive order axing all funding for PBS and NPR, including kids’ shows Mister Roger’s Neighborhood, Elmo’s World, and Sesame Street.
While Trump claimed that the networks were “biased,” PBS hit back in a lawsuit that the president was overstepping regulations that prevent him from controlling its content.
“The executive order makes no attempt to hide the fact that it is cutting off the flow of funds to PBS because of the content of PBS programming and out of a desire to alter the content of speech. That is blatant viewpoint discrimination,” PBS lawyers complained.
